If your Corsair HS60 microphone is silent, first identify whether you have an HS60 Surround or HS60 HAPTIC: they use different connection paths. Then check the mic and mute control, test the headset as a Windows input, and only after that troubleshoot app permissions or consider a hardware fault.
Identify your HS60 model and connection
Check the product label or original packaging for the full model name before changing connections. Corsair specifies the HS60 Surround as a 3.5 mm analog headset supplied with a USB 7.1 adapter. The adapter provides PC surround features; it does not change the headset’s underlying analog connection. Corsair’s compatibility table lists the HS60 HAPTIC as a PC USB model.

Do not assume that instructions for one model’s adapter apply to the other model.
Check the microphone, mute control, and connection
For the HS60 Surround, make sure the headset is connected securely and push the detachable microphone fully into its socket. Check that the headset’s mute control is not engaged. Position the boom toward your mouth: Corsair’s quick-start guide says the unidirectional microphone must point directly at your mouth and suggests a roughly 30-degree boom bend as a starting point when adjusting loudness.

The same guide has a narrowly specific reset instruction: if the USB adapter was exposed to electrical shock and the microphone temporarily muted, remove and reconnect the adapter. This is not a general fix for every silent microphone.
Test the HS60 in Windows before troubleshooting an app
- In Windows 11, open Settings > System > Sound > Input. Windows 10 has a similar input-device area, though labels may vary by release.
- Select the HS60 microphone or the headset input that corresponds to your model and connection.
- Run the microphone test, speak normally, stop the test, and play the sample. If the recording is faint, raise the input volume and test again.

If Windows does not list the microphone
Reconnect the headset using the correct path for its model, then use Microsoft’s microphone troubleshooting guidance. If Windows still does not detect it after the connection checks, Microsoft advises considering audio-driver updates or reinstallation. Treat driver changes as a later step because they can affect other audio devices.

Check Windows microphone access and the app’s input choice
Windows privacy access and an app’s selected microphone are separate settings. Allow access in the Windows privacy controls, then make sure the game, voice-chat app, browser, or meeting app is set to use the HS60.

- Windows 11: Open Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone. Check microphone access, app access, and desktop-app access as applicable.
- Windows 10: Open Settings > Privacy > Microphone and check the relevant access controls.
- In the app: Open its audio, voice, or device settings and select the HS60 microphone rather than another available input.

- Windows records the HS60, but one app does not: Check that app’s microphone permission and input-device selection. A successful Windows test means an app-only failure does not establish that the headset is broken.
- Windows does not show the HS60 input: Recheck the model-specific connection and use Windows input troubleshooting. If detection still fails, consider the driver guidance above.
- The boom looks damaged or fails on another compatible setup: A physical fault becomes more plausible, but the cited Windows and Corsair instructions do not establish a model-specific test that proves electrical failure.
The HS60 Surround microphone is detachable, but detachable does not mean every generic boom microphone will fit. Before seeking a replacement, verify the exact headset model and connector; compatibility and a specific replacement part are not established by Corsair’s cited product and setup information.
