CoreProtect is an audit and rollback plugin for Minecraft servers. It records selected activity—such as block changes, container transfers, chat, commands, entities and player sessions—so authorized staff can determine what happened, where it happened and which account was involved. It does not automatically record every possible server action: per-world settings, blacklist rules, CoreProtect version and the event category all affect the final record.
Godlike.Host offers hosted Minecraft Java servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
What CoreProtect records
CoreProtect stores searchable records of activity on a Minecraft server and provides administrative commands to inspect, roll back or restore matching changes. The records are intended for moderation, grief investigation and recovery rather than for creating a complete replay of every tick or packet.

The most useful way to understand its coverage is by event family. Each family has a lookup action, and some have narrower positive or negative forms. For example, a:+block finds placements while a:-block finds breaks; a:+container finds deposits while a:-container finds withdrawals.
| Event family | Lookup action or filter | What the record can establish |
|---|---|---|
| Block changes | a:block, a:+block, a:-block |
Blocks placed or broken, the location, time and account; documented activity also includes natural block breakage and related block changes. |
| Player interactions | a:click |
Player interactions with logged blocks, such as doors, buttons, levers and containers. The API records the block material and block data at the location. |
| Containers | a:container, a:+container, a:-container |
Items put into or taken from chests and other logged containers. |
| Player inventories | a:inventory |
Items added to or removed from a player’s inventory. |
| World item movement | a:item |
Item drops, throws, pickups, deposits and withdrawals in the world. |
| Entities and deaths | a:kill and entity action categories |
Mobs or animals killed, player kills, entity deaths with detailed death reasons where recorded, and entity spawns. |
| Signs | a:sign |
Text written on signs, searchable by a text prefix. |
| Chat | a:chat |
Player chat messages, subject to the server’s logging configuration. |
| Commands | a:command |
Commands issued by players, searchable by a command prefix. |
| Sessions | a:session |
Login and logout activity. |
| Usernames | a:username |
Recorded username changes. |
Blocks and world changes
Placed and broken blocks
Block logging answers the standard griefing questions: which account changed this block, at what location and at what time? A broad a:block lookup includes block changes, while a:+block limits results to placements and a:-block limits them to breaks.

- [Deep Bass with Clear Vocals] High-performance drivers produce punchy bass while keeping vocals clean and detailed for everyday listening.
CoreProtect documentation also describes natural block breakage and related block changes. That distinction matters when a crop, leaf or other naturally changing block appears in an investigation: a result may identify a natural cause rather than a player action. Read the action and cause shown by the lookup instead of assuming every break was deliberate.
Inspecting a suspicious location
For a quick in-game check, toggle inspection mode with /co inspect. While it is enabled, interact with the suspect block to view available CoreProtect information. Toggle it off with the same command when finished, especially when returning to normal building or moderation work.
Interactions: clicks, doors and switches
The a:click action searches player interactions. This is useful for questions such as who opened a door, pressed a button or used a lever near a particular time. The API’s interaction method records the block material and block data at a location, giving an integration a way to identify the interacted block rather than only a generic event.
Interaction results depend on whether the relevant logging is enabled for that world and event. A missing click result is therefore not proof that nobody interacted with the block; it may indicate that the category was disabled, excluded by a blacklist or handled differently by the installed CoreProtect version.

Chests, containers and item movement
Finding who took items from a chest
Use a:container for transfers into and out of logged containers. Narrow the search with a:+container for deposits and a:-container for withdrawals. A withdrawal record can show which account removed an item, the container location and the time range that matched the query.
Container logging is different from inventory logging. a:inventory covers items added to or removed from a player’s inventory, while a:item covers world item transactions such as drops, throws and pickups. A chest-theft investigation may therefore require more than one action: first check the container withdrawal, then trace a subsequent inventory or world-item movement if you need to understand where the item went.
Automated transfers
Documented activity includes hopper, dropper and dispenser transfers. These records help distinguish an automated movement from a player opening a chest and taking an item. Check the action, location and timestamps together; a hopper line and a nearby player withdrawal are separate events and should not be treated as the same cause.
Kills, deaths and spawns
a:kill searches mobs or animals killed. CoreProtect’s action categories also include entity kills, player kills and entity spawns. The project description says entity deaths can include detailed death reasons, which is useful when deciding whether a death came from combat, environmental damage or another recorded cause.

Entity coverage is still subject to configuration and version behavior. If an investigation involves a particular mob or spawn event, include the relevant entity or user filters and verify that the server was running a version that supports the category you expect.
Chat, commands, signs, sessions and names
Chat and commands
Yes, CoreProtect can record player chat and commands when those categories are enabled. Search chat with a:chat and commands with a:command. The f:<prefix> filter narrows chat, command or sign results to a message or text prefix; for example, a command-prefix filter can focus a search on commands beginning with a particular label.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsChat and command records are audit data, not a guarantee that every message visible to a client was captured. Server configuration, filtering and the installed version determine what is written. Handle chat logs as moderation records and apply the same access controls you use for other player data.
Signs, logins and username changes
a:sign searches text written on signs, and the same f: prefix filter can focus the search on a phrase at the beginning of the recorded text. a:session covers logins and logouts. a:username covers username changes, which can help connect an older record to a player’s later name.

How to search CoreProtect records
CoreProtect’s lookup syntax combines a target, time, area and action. A practical investigation normally starts broad enough to find the event, then narrows the query after you know the location or account.
- Toggle inspection with
/co inspectif you are standing at the affected block and need an immediate result. - Run
/co lookupwith a user filter such asu:PlayerName, a time filter such ast:1d, and an action such asa:blockora:-container. - Limit the area with
r:<radius>, or target a world or global search when the location is not known. - Use
i:<include>to include particular blocks, items, entities or users, ore:<exclude>to leave them out. - For text-bearing events, add
f:<prefix>to filter chat messages, commands or sign text by prefix. - Use
#countwhen you need the number of matching records,#summaryfor material summaries, or#previewto preview a rollback before changing the world.
For example, a staff member investigating recent block grief near a base could combine a one-day time window, a radius around the base and a:block. If the first result identifies a player, repeat the lookup with u: to follow that account’s activity across the relevant area and period.
Rollback and restore: what the records can do
/co rollback reverses matching recorded changes. /co restore reapplies changes that were previously rolled back. Both are administrative operations over records that match the supplied filters; they are not a substitute for a full server backup.
- Identify the smallest accurate time, user, radius, world and action filters.
- Run a lookup and review the returned records.
- Run the same scope with
#previewwhen you need to see what a rollback would affect. - Take or verify a reliable backup before applying a destructive change.
- Execute the rollback only after a second staff member or documented procedure confirms the scope.
- Use restore if the rollback was too broad or the original state needs to be reapplied, then investigate the cause before trying again.
Restrict rollback, restore, purge and lookup permissions to the staff roles that need them. Keep written command procedures and monitor storage so an expanding database does not become an operational surprise.
Best Value
Why an expected event may be missing
- Per-world settings: each world can have different logging behavior, so an event visible in one world may not be captured in another.
- Blacklist rules:
blacklist.txtcan disable logging for named users, commands, blocks, entities and filtered item or container causes. - Version support: block blacklist support requires CoreProtect v23 or newer, while entity filtering requires v24 or newer according to the documentation.
- Category differences: event categories do not all emit the same pre-log callback. Chat and session logging are examples without that event emission.
- Retention and storage operations: purges or other database maintenance can remove historical records, so a lookup only reflects data still retained.
Before promising that a particular action is logged, check the installed CoreProtect version, the world’s configuration and any blacklist entries. Treat an empty result as “no matching retained record under the current settings,” not as proof that the action never happened.

Using the API and integrating another plugin
CoreProtect exposes dedicated API methods and typed lookup methods for blocks, interactions, containers, inventories, items, chat, commands, signs, sessions and usernames. An integration should call the method that matches the category it needs instead of assuming every event behaves like a block event.
The API documentation specifically notes that chat and session logging do not provide the same pre-log event callback available for some other records. A plugin that needs those categories should use the appropriate lookup or dedicated API method and should test against the exact CoreProtect version installed on the server.
Operational checklist for reliable investigations
- Keep CoreProtect updated within the compatibility limits of your Minecraft server and confirm which event categories that version supports.
- Review per-world configuration after creating a new world or changing its name.
- Document blacklist entries so moderators know which users, commands, blocks or entities are intentionally excluded.
- Use narrow filters and previews before rollback or restore.
- Maintain independent, tested backups; CoreProtect records complement backups but do not replace them.
- Limit access to chat, command and session records because they can contain sensitive player activity.
- Monitor database storage and retention so old records remain available for the period your moderation policy requires.
What CoreProtect does not provide
There is no authoritative single event-count number that applies to every CoreProtect version and configuration. The documented action families are a better guide than a headline total, because enabled categories, world settings and version support change what is actually captured.
CoreProtect is also not a universal packet logger, client-side recorder or guaranteed record of every transient game state. It is an administrative audit system: it records selected activity in supported categories, lets staff query those records and can apply matching changes in rollback or restore operations.
Choosing an audit setup
If you are evaluating CoreProtect or another administrative logger, compare the capabilities that affect investigations rather than relying on an event-count claim:
- Coverage for blocks, containers, inventories, items, chat, commands and entities.
- Lookup filters for user, time, radius, world, action, include, exclude and text prefixes.
- Preview, rollback and restore controls, including permission separation.
- Per-world configuration and blacklist granularity.
- API methods and version compatibility for other plugins.
- Database retention, storage monitoring and purge procedures.
- How the logging workflow fits with tested server backups.
For a server administrator, the practical answer is straightforward: CoreProtect can tell you who changed a block, who moved items through a logged container, which chat or command records exist, and when accounts connected—provided those categories were enabled and retained under the server’s configuration and version.
