Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →If you need Windows apps or a particular Windows feature, choose a Copilot+ PC; if you prefer macOS or rely on Apple ecosystem workflows, choose a MacBook. Then compare specific models, because “Copilot+ PC” describes a category of Windows laptops—not one machine—and the available evidence does not establish that one whole category is faster or lasts longer.
Start with your operating system and essential apps
Copilot+ PCs run Windows 11 and come from multiple manufacturers. Apple’s MacBook Air M5 runs macOS. If your work, school, peripherals, or established workflow requires one operating system, that is the most useful first filter.

What “Copilot+ PC” means—and what it doesn’t
Microsoft defines Copilot+ PCs as a class of Windows 11 computers with a neural processing unit (NPU) capable of more than 40 trillion operations per second (TOPS). Microsoft names Snapdragon, Intel, and AMD platforms among the processors used in this class. That threshold describes NPU capability; it is not a measure of a laptop’s overall speed, nor does it make every Copilot+ PC the same configuration. Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC overview lists the category and features.

Memory, storage, display, ports, battery claims, and price depend on the individual manufacturer and model. Microsoft’s device listings, for example, include some Surface Laptop configurations with up to 32GB of memory and 1TB of storage; other Copilot+ devices differ. Microsoft’s Surface device listings show examples, not specifications for the entire category.

Compare the features you will actually use
Microsoft lists Windows features for Copilot+ PCs including Recall, Cocreator, Studio Effects, Live Captions, and automatic super resolution. Apple markets Apple Intelligence on the MacBook Air M5, which includes Neural Accelerators and a 16-core Neural Engine. These labels do not establish equal feature scope, quality, or availability. Check current operating-system eligibility and support for your region and language, then decide whether the particular features matter to your work.

- Memory and storage: compare the amount of RAM or unified memory and SSD capacity on each exact configuration.
- Display: compare screen size and the display characteristics that matter for your work.
- Ports and desk setup: check charging, external-display support, wired peripherals, and whether a compatible dock or adapter is needed.
- Price: compare current prices in your region for configurations with similar memory, storage, and screen size. Microsoft does not establish one price for the Copilot+ category.
- Required software: verify compatibility for the apps and accessories you depend on.
This avoids treating a broad Windows hardware class as though it had one standard price or specification. Apple’s $1,299 figure is a US starting price for the MacBook Air M5 product family, not a like-for-like price against every Copilot+ laptop.

Apple states up to 15 hours of wireless web use and up to 18 hours of video streaming for MacBook Air M5. Apple says its tests used pre-production systems in January 2026: web browsing across 25 popular websites over Wi-Fi, and 1080p video streaming in Safari over Wi-Fi. The company notes that actual battery life varies with use and configuration. Apple’s specifications page describes the tests.

Microsoft reports up to 19 hours of web browsing for selected pre-production next-generation Copilot+ PCs in a March 2026 disclosure. Its test used Wi-Fi, multiple websites and tabs, default settings except for 150-nit screen brightness with Auto-Brightness off, and a 96% battery discharge. This selected-device result is not directly comparable to Apple’s figures because the devices and test procedures differ. Neither set of manufacturer estimates guarantees the runtime you will get.
Which should you buy?
Choose a Copilot+ PC if
- You need Windows 11 for your applications, workplace, or preferred workflow.
- A particular Windows feature is important to you, and you have confirmed it is available for your model, region, and language.
- You want to choose among different manufacturers, sizes, and configurations, and are willing to compare the exact models.
Choose a MacBook Air M5 if
- You prefer macOS or depend on Apple ecosystem workflows.
- The M5 MacBook Air’s display size, ports, memory and storage options, and current regional price fit your needs.
- You want Apple’s listed battery estimates, while understanding they come from Apple’s own tests rather than a direct comparison with a Copilot+ laptop.
If neither operating system is required, make a shortlist of exact models and compare the software compatibility, configuration, screen, connectivity, and current local price. The available manufacturer information does not support declaring a universal performance or battery-life winner.
