Apple’s iOS 18.4 beta 2 brings a meaningful quality-of-life change: new AI and Siri controls appear in Control Center. For power users, that means fewer taps to reach voice and AI-related functionality—provided you can see the controls on your device and permissions are set correctly.
This guide focuses on what to check, where to find the toggles, how to configure them, and what to do when the controls don’t show up or Siri/AI actions don’t respond. It’s written for iPhone and iPad devices running iOS 18.4 beta 2 (or an equivalent beta build), where UI labels and behavior can still shift between betas.

What changed in iOS 18.4 beta 2 Control Center
In iOS 18.4 beta 2, Control Center includes additional quick controls tied to AI and Siri. Instead of going through Settings or waiting for a voice prompt, you get a more immediate entry point directly from the swipe-down menu.
Because betas can vary slightly by device model, region, and rollout flags, don’t assume every iPhone will display the exact same control set. But the core idea is consistent: AI-related actions and Siri controls are now faster to reach from Control Center.

Prerequisites and what you need before you try it
Before troubleshooting, confirm you’re on the right software and that Siri/AI features are enabled system-wide.
Confirm you’re really on iOS 18.4 beta 2
- Open Settings.
- Tap General > About.
- Look for iOS Version and verify it states iOS 18.4 beta 2.
If you’re on a different beta (or a public release), the Control Center layout may differ.
Make sure Siri is enabled
- Go to Settings > Siri & Search.
- Confirm Listen for "Hey Siri" is on (and/or Press Side Button for Siri, depending on your device).
- Check Siri Responses and any relevant voice options.
Check network and language prerequisites
Some AI and Siri features depend on connectivity and device language. Verify you’re using a supported language in Settings > General > Language & Region, and ensure Wi‑Fi or cellular data is working.

Control Center can be reorganized and customized by the user, and iOS versions sometimes change the default ordering. Use the steps below to locate the new controls reliably.
Open Control Center
- On iPhone with Face ID: swipe down from the top-right corner.
- On iPhone with a Home button: swipe up from the bottom edge.
Look for the AI and Siri control tiles
Scan the grid and any dedicated sections. The new AI/Siri controls should be visible as additional toggles or quick-action buttons rather than only appearing via voice.
If you don’t see them: confirm Control Center includes the right modules
- Open Settings.
- Tap Control Center.
- Under the custom area, look for entries related to Siri or AI.
- Use the + (Add) button to include missing controls, or remove older items to make room if you prefer a clean layout.
On some betas, items can be temporarily hidden if feature flags aren’t active for your account/device. If the entries are missing entirely from the Control Center editor, proceed to the troubleshooting section.
How these controls typically work (what to expect)
Control Center shortcuts usually trigger a mode, open a panel, or start an action immediately—then you interact through the system UI. For Siri-related controls, expect behavior aligned with Siri & Search and microphone permissions.

For AI controls, the quick access point typically helps you start an AI-driven interaction without navigating multiple menus. Exact outputs depend on the AI feature available in your region and the specific build.
How to set up Siri behavior related to Control Center
Even with new Control Center controls, Siri still relies on the underlying Siri configuration. If Siri doesn’t behave the way you expect when launched from Control Center, tune these settings first.
Verify Siri & Search options
- Go to Settings > Siri & Search.
- Confirm Listen for "Hey Siri" and/or Press Side Button for Siri are enabled.
- Confirm Siri can show results in relevant contexts if that option exists in your build.
Check permissions for microphone and dictation
- Open Settings > Privacy & Security.
- Tap Microphone and verify Siri-related permissions are allowed where applicable.
- Optionally check Dictation and any speech-related settings in your region.
If microphone access is blocked, Siri may appear to “open” from Control Center but then fail to listen.
How to use AI controls from Control Center
AI controls in Control Center are designed for speed. The safest approach is to treat them like a shortcut launcher: tap the control, then follow the system prompts.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsUse the control as a quick launcher
- Open Control Center.
- Tap the AI control tile/button.
- Complete the interaction in the resulting system UI (prompt, chat, action card, or follow-up options).
Make sure you’re selecting the right context
Many AI features respond differently depending on what’s active (e.g., current app, selected text, clipboard content). If the AI response feels off, switch to the target app first and then re-run the action from Control Center.
If the AI action needs permissions or data
Some AI actions may request access to content (like selected text), contacts, or documents. When prompted, review the permission request and confirm the action you intend—especially on beta builds that may ask more frequently.
Where the controls map to settings (so you can fine-tune them)
Control Center is a shortcut surface; the real behavior is controlled by Settings. Use this mapping approach to fix weirdness quickly.

Troubleshooting when the controls don’t appear
If you don’t see the new AI/Siri controls in Control Center on iOS 18.4 beta 2, the issue is usually one of: the control isn’t added, feature flags aren’t enabled, or the beta install isn’t fully applied.
1) Confirm the controls are enabled in Control Center
- Go to Settings > Control Center.
- Check the “More Controls” or equivalent list for Siri/AI items.
- Add them with +.
2) Restart the iPhone or iPad
On betas, UI modules sometimes don’t fully register until after a restart. Power off, then turn the device back on, then reopen Control Center.
3) Verify your iOS build is truly the beta you think it is
- Re-check Settings > General > About.
- If you’re not on iOS 18.4 beta 2, update to the correct beta and test again.
4) Reset only the Control Center layout
In Settings > Control Center, remove and re-add the relevant Siri/AI modules. This often forces the system to repopulate the control tile properly.
5) If feature flags still don’t activate, consider reinstalling the beta
Reinstalling the beta is a heavier step, but if your device never receives the control despite matching the version, it may be a partial install. If you do this, back up first and be prepared for re-login steps.
Troubleshooting when Siri or AI actions fail
Assume the Control Center control works, but the action doesn’t. These fixes target the most common failure points on iOS betas.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Confirm the device can access required services
- Toggle Wi‑Fi off and back on (or switch networks).
- Check Cellular Data if you’re not on Wi‑Fi.
- Try again after 30–60 seconds.
Check Focus and microphone restrictions
- Open Settings > Focus and check whether any Focus mode is blocking Siri or notifications.
- Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone and confirm permission state.
Force-close the involved app (if AI depends on context)
If the AI feature uses selected text or an open document, the app state can matter. Exit the app, relaunch it, then use the Control Center AI control again.
Try a different launch path
To confirm whether the issue is Control Center vs. Siri/AI itself, try launching Siri using a side button/Hey Siri and run an AI action from the app or its normal entry point (if available in your build). If voice Siri works but Control Center doesn’t, your problem is likely the Control Center module state.

Privacy and permissions: what to verify
New controls touching AI and Siri should prompt you to review permissions. Do this early, because betas can surface permission prompts unexpectedly.
Review Siri and AI permissions
- Open Settings > Privacy & Security.
- Check Microphone and any relevant categories tied to speech or on-device features.
- Check for app-level permissions if the AI function draws from other apps.
Watch for content exposure via context
If you start an AI action after selecting text in an app, treat that as shared context. Clear any sensitive selection and confirm what the AI action will use before sending prompts.

- Assuming the control tile exists by default. On iOS, Control Center modules can be customized; your layout may simply not include the new items.
- Testing Siri with microphone blocked. If microphone permission is off, Siri can appear unresponsive.
- Using the AI control in the wrong app context. AI often responds to the current screen or selection. Switch apps and try again.
- Expecting identical behavior across devices. iPhone vs. iPad, region, and account flags can change what appears in beta builds.
- Not restarting after an update. Some Control Center changes only fully register after reboot.
Comparison: Control Center controls vs. Settings and Siri shortcuts
Control Center is about speed. Settings are about configuration. Siri shortcuts and voice are about workflow automation.
Control Center
Best for quick, ad-hoc actions. If you want to trigger AI or start a Siri flow without opening another screen, this is the fastest route.
Settings
Best for consistent behavior. If Siri/AI doesn’t work the way you want every time, the fix usually lives in Siri & Search or privacy permissions, not in Control Center.
Siri and Shortcuts
Best for repeatable automations. If you regularly ask AI to do the same task, consider using Siri Shortcuts (where available in your build) so you’re not relying on manual prompts every time.
