What Meshnet does
NordVPN describes Meshnet as a private network that links devices directly so they can be accessed remotely. Its listed uses include remote device access, file sharing, gaming, collaboration, and routing internet traffic through another device. These are NordVPN’s product descriptions, not independent security findings. NordVPN’s Meshnet product page says: “Meshnet is a way to safely access other devices, no matter where in the world they are.”

Routing traffic through another device can make your connection appear to use that device’s public IP address, according to NordVPN’s support guide. Meshnet should not be treated as a guarantee of anonymity or as proof that a connected device is secure.

- Install and sign in. Install the NordVPN app on each device you want to connect, then sign in. NordVPN’s getting-started guide lists Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, and Android TV; use its platform-specific links because app menus can differ.
- Enable Meshnet. In the Windows app, open Devices in Meshnet and switch on the Meshnet toggle. NordVPN says the device then receives a unique Nord name and Meshnet IP address for access from linked devices. The Windows connection guide documents this path.
- Connect your own devices. Sign in to the same NordVPN account on each device and enable Meshnet. NordVPN says those personal devices connect automatically.
- Invite another person. Send an invitation from the app to the other user’s device. They must accept it, and NordVPN says they need a registered account. A paid subscription is not required to use Meshnet. See NordVPN’s instructions for inviting external devices.
Use Meshnet from Linux
NordVPN’s Linux guide provides these commands for enabling or disabling Meshnet in its CLI:

The same guide notes that Linux app version 3.18.4 blocks LAN traffic through a VPN-connected computer by default. That version-specific LAN behavior is separate from the Meshnet enablement commands. Check NordVPN’s Linux Meshnet guide for current details.
How many devices can join?
NordVPN’s current published guidance, accessed October 7, 2026, sets a limit of up to 60 devices in one Meshnet network: up to 10 devices using one account and up to 50 external devices. The pages do not state a publication date for these limits. See the product page and Windows connection guide.

Unlink a device
In the Windows app, open Devices in Meshnet, find the device, select its three-dot menu, choose Unlink this device, and confirm. App labels and navigation may differ on other platforms; consult the current platform-specific instructions or in-app controls before removing a device.

What to know about file sharing and access
NordVPN lists file sharing and remote file storage among Meshnet’s uses, but the setup steps and available permission controls can vary by platform. The instructions above enable device connections; they do not configure file sharing or establish which access permissions are available in every app. Use the relevant current NordVPN platform guide and verify the in-app controls before sharing files or granting another user access.
