To connect a PS4 DUALSHOCK 4 controller to a Samsung Galaxy phone, enable Bluetooth, put the controller in pairing mode by holding Share and PS until its light flashes, then select it in the phone’s Bluetooth device list. PlayStation lists Android 10 or later as the baseline for DUALSHOCK 4 Bluetooth support; the game or app must also support controller input.
Pair the DUALSHOCK 4 with your Samsung phone
- Turn on Bluetooth. Swipe down from the top of the screen to open Quick Settings and enable Bluetooth. You can also open Bluetooth controls in Settings.
- Turn off the controller. If its player indicator is lit, hold the PS button until it turns off. Unplug any USB cable from the controller.
- Enter pairing mode. Hold Share, then hold PS until the light bar flashes.
- Select the controller on the phone. Open Bluetooth settings and choose the controller from the available devices. It may appear as “Wireless Controller.” If it is missing, tap Scan and check again.
- Test it in a supported game or app. Pairing connects the controller to the phone, but does not make every game accept controller input.

Check Android and app compatibility
PlayStation lists Android 10 or later as supporting DUALSHOCK 4 Bluetooth and USB connections. That is the published baseline, not a guarantee for every phone configuration or every game. Check the Android version installed on your Galaxy and the game’s controller support if the controller pairs but does not work as expected. Samsung’s support page describes Galaxy pairing but does not establish compatibility for every Galaxy model or Android release.

For PS Remote Play, PlayStation says Android 9 or later can use on-screen controls, while Android 10 or later can connect a DUALSHOCK 4 over Bluetooth. See the PS Remote Play platform requirements for the current app requirements.

What works—and what may not—over Bluetooth
On devices other than supported Sony Xperia devices, PlayStation identifies several DUALSHOCK 4 features as unavailable over Bluetooth: the touchpad, rumble, motion sensor and headphone-jack audio. You also cannot change the light-bar color. These limitations do not necessarily indicate a pairing problem; basic controller input may still work in a compatible app.
If the controller does not appear or respond
- It is missing from the Bluetooth list: Turn it off, disconnect its USB cable, then hold Share and PS until the light flashes. On the Galaxy phone, reopen Bluetooth settings and tap Scan.
- It appears but buttons do nothing in a game: Confirm that the game or app supports controller input. Bluetooth pairing alone does not add controller support.
- You are using Remote Play: Check the Android threshold for the control method you want: Android 9 or later for on-screen controls, Android 10 or later for a DUALSHOCK 4 over Bluetooth.
Reconnect the controller to a PlayStation console
After using the controller with your phone, connect it to the PS4 or PS5 with a compatible USB cable and press the PS button. PlayStation provides this wired reconnection method in its DUALSHOCK 4 pairing instructions.
