For the most reliable connection, plug the laptop into a free HDMI port on the TCL TV, then use the TV remote to select that HDMI input. For a wireless connection, first check whether the TV runs Google TV or Roku TV: Google TV supports casting from Chrome and compatible apps, while Windows screen mirroring and Mac AirPlay are options only on compatible Roku TV setups.
Choose between mirroring, casting, and HDMI
Use HDMI when you want the laptop’s display on the TV with the fewest compatibility questions, or when you need to show something that cannot be cast from an app. Wireless options depend on the TV platform and the laptop.

- HDMI: Sends the laptop’s video to a TV input. You can choose whether the computer mirrors or extends its desktop in its display settings.
- Chrome or app casting: Sends supported browser content or media to a TCL Google TV. This is not necessarily the same as mirroring the entire desktop.
- Windows screen mirroring: TCL documents this for Roku TVs; compatibility depends on the laptop and TV.
- AirPlay: Works with select TCL Roku TV models and supported software, including as a Mac display option.
TCL’s instructions vary by model and operating system. If you are unsure which platform your TV uses, check its home screen or model documentation before following wireless steps.

Connect with an HDMI cable
- Check the laptop for an HDMI video output and the TV for an unused HDMI input. If the laptop has DisplayPort instead, TCL describes using a DisplayPort-to-HDMI adapter.
- Connect the cable or appropriate adapter between the laptop and the TV.
- On the TCL remote, select the HDMI input that you used.
- If you want to extend rather than duplicate the laptop desktop, choose that arrangement in the laptop’s display settings.
A USB-C-to-HDMI adapter works only if that USB-C port supports DisplayPort Alternate Mode video output. Check the laptop manufacturer’s specifications or manual; USB-C ports do not all carry video. TCL’s connection guide covers HDMI and adapters: TCL’s laptop-to-TV connection guide.

Cast from Chrome or an app to TCL Google TV
TCL’s Google TV guidance supports casting from a current Chromecast-enabled app or Chrome browser when the laptop and TV are on the same Wi-Fi network. It does not establish that every TCL Google TV accepts Windows Miracast projection, so use the Cast control in Chrome or a compatible app rather than assuming Windows’ wireless-display feature will work.
- Connect the laptop and TCL Google TV to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Open the video or other supported content in Chrome or a Chromecast-enabled app.
- Select the app’s or browser’s Cast control, then choose the TCL Google TV.
- To stop, use the Cast control again and disconnect.
For Chromebook use, Chrome casting follows the same general route when the content and TV support it. A TCL Google TV with Chromecast built in does not need an additional Chromecast for supported casting. See TCL’s Google TV casting instructions.

Mirror a Windows laptop to TCL Roku TV
TCL documents Windows screen mirroring on Roku TV. This is distinct from Google TV app casting, and it is not guaranteed to work with every Windows laptop or Roku TV configuration.

- On the TV, open Settings > System > Screen mirroring and enable screen mirroring.
- On Windows, open the wireless display or project control and choose the Roku TV. The exact control and wording can differ by Windows version.
- If prompted on the TV, approve the connection.
TCL’s instructions say Apple devices are not supported by this particular Roku screen-mirroring method. For a Mac, check AirPlay compatibility instead. Details are in TCL’s Roku screen-mirroring support page.

Use AirPlay from a Mac with a compatible TCL Roku TV
AirPlay is available on select TCL Roku TV models, not every TCL television. Confirm the exact model and minimum Roku OS support in TCL’s AirPlay and HomeKit setup guide.
- Ensure the Mac and TV are on the same wireless network, and that AirPlay is enabled in the TV settings.
- On the Mac, open Displays settings and select the TCL TV as an AirPlay display.
- Enter the code shown on the TV if prompted.
If the supported TV appears unavailable while powered off, TCL suggests enabling Fast TV Start so it can maintain network connectivity.

Fix common connection problems
The Google TV does not appear in Cast
- Confirm the laptop and TV are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Check that the Chromecast built-in system app is enabled on the TV.
- Restart the TV and check for a system update.
Windows cannot find the Roku TV
- Verify screen mirroring is enabled under Settings > System > Screen mirroring.
- Use Windows’ wireless display or project control.
- Keep in mind that compatibility depends on both the computer and the TV.
A Mac cannot find the Roku TV
- Check that the specific model and Roku OS version support AirPlay.
- Confirm AirPlay is enabled and that both devices use the same wireless network.
The TV says “No signal” over HDMI
- Use the remote to select the HDMI input where the cable is connected.
- Check that the laptop is sending video through the connected port and that any adapter matches the port’s video capabilities.
