Link an image in the Confluence Cloud editor

Open the page or live doc for editing. To insert an image, use the editor toolbar or type

Select the image in the editor. A floating toolbar appears.

Choose Link in the floating toolbar.

Enter the destination: choose a Confluence page or provide an external URL, then apply the link. Atlassian’s image-linking instructions cover the image-specific control.

Add or check the image’s alt text
Select the image and choose Edit alt text in its floating toolbar. Use alt text to explain the image’s relevant meaning or context; linking an image does not automatically provide that description. Atlassian Support advises that supplemental text should accompany media to provide context and meaning, and notes that alt text can help people who rely on screen readers. See Atlassian’s image guidance.
If the image or link option is missing

Confirm that you selected the image itself in the editor; the image’s floating toolbar contains the image-link control.

If you cannot upload an image, check whether you have Add Attachments permission in the space. Atlassian identifies this permission for relevant upload options; the documentation does not establish it as a requirement for linking an image that is already inserted. Review the attachment-permissions guidance.

Use the current editor controls rather than legacy wiki markup. Atlassian says its wiki-markup instructions apply to the legacy editor and that the new editor does not support markup. See the legacy-editor markup note.

Keyboard shortcuts for ordinary links
For links generally, Atlassian documents selecting text or placing the cursor and using the toolbar’s Link button, or pressing Ctrl+K on Windows and Cmd+K on Mac. For an image, use the image-specific floating-toolbar workflow above. Atlassian’s link guide lists the general options.
