Gears of War: E-Day has 17 reported campaign Secondary Objectives: seven in Act 2, three in Act 3, and seven in Act 4. This guide gives each mission’s starting landmark, unlock cue, and completion action. Named rewards are confirmed for the seven Act 2 objectives; rewards for the other ten are not individually established, so they are marked accordingly rather than guessed.
How many Secondary Objectives are there?
Current walkthroughs report 17 campaign Secondary Objectives across Acts 2–4, with none reported in Acts 1 or 5. The campaign’s larger Kalona areas contain optional routes alongside its primarily linear story path, according to Xbox’s launch guide. Objectives can be gated by story progress, so a landmark may not offer its mission the first time you pass it. The locations and route cues below come from independent walkthroughs, not an official route map.

Completing every campaign Secondary Objective on any difficulty unlocks the Side Piece achievement. Xbox’s achievement listing states the requirement as completing every Secondary Objective in the Campaign on any difficulty: Xbox Wire achievement list.

Xbox’s launch guide says optional missions offer additional story insight and often a weapon mod; “often” describes a general pattern, not a guaranteed item for every objective. See the Xbox launch guide.
TechWiser itemizes named rewards for the seven Act 2 missions above, but its reward coverage does not establish a named reward for the remaining ten campaign objectives. Its page also discusses Horde Siege objectives and their Weapon Parts, Perks, and Energy; those are Horde Siege rewards, not evidence of campaign rewards. See TechWiser’s side-mission guide. Avoid treating an unlisted item as confirmed.
How to avoid missing an objective
- Before leaving an open district or crossing a major story transition, check the nearby landmarks for an active optional task.
- If a mission marker or interaction is absent, advance the nearby main objective and return to the landmark; some tasks are story-gated.
- After a defense, rescue, escort, or interaction, wait for the completion notice or final dialogue. The last enemy falling does not always mean the objective has registered.
- For Clocktower Defense and Death from Above, complete the optional task before committing to the respective Opera House or final Control Tower story route.
- Use the Side Piece achievement as the completion check: it requires every campaign Secondary Objective, on any difficulty.
Route directions and mission names are reported by current walkthroughs, including GamersBeacon and Game Onramp. Landmarks or route availability can change with a game update.
