If Comet Browser won’t open, first work out whether the problem is downloading, installing, launching, or loading a page. Check that your device is currently supported and get the installer from Perplexity’s official site. Then try the low-risk checks below; if Comet still will not start, contact Perplexity through its Comet Help Center rather than deleting browser data or changing security settings.
Identify where Comet gets stuck
“Comet won’t open” can describe several different problems. The stage of failure helps you choose what to try next:
- The installer will not start: The downloaded file does not open, or the operating system blocks it.
- Installation fails: Setup begins but does not complete, or displays an error.
- Comet will not launch: Installation appears complete, but the browser window never appears.
- Comet closes immediately: A window or startup screen appears and then disappears.
- Comet opens but pages will not load: The browser has launched; this is different from an app that cannot start.
Note the exact behavior and any error message before changing anything. A page-loading problem alone does not explain why the app itself fails to launch.
Check that your device is supported and use the official download
Perplexity’s Comet Quick Start Guide lists macOS devices with M1 or M2 processors and Windows 10 or 11. Its product page lists Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android, a broader platform list that may reflect a different scope or a later product update. Because availability can change, check the current requirements and download option for your specific device on Perplexity’s Comet page. The Quick Start Guide directs desktop users to comet.perplexity.ai for downloads.

If you suspect the installer is incomplete or came from another site, download a fresh copy from the official destination. Avoid third-party installers.
Try reversible general troubleshooting
These are general software checks, not launch fixes documented by Perplexity as Comet-specific instructions. Try them in order, and stop if an error points to a different issue.

- Restart your device. After it starts again, try opening Comet once and note what happens.
- If the installer failed, retry with a fresh official copy. Close the incomplete installer, download Comet from comet.perplexity.ai, and run the new copy. Record any message shown during setup.
- If Comet stopped opening after previously working, note what changed. Record recent operating-system updates, security-software changes, or an abrupt shutdown as context for support; these events do not establish the cause.
- Pause before uninstalling or changing app data. If you need local profile data, check with official support before taking steps that could affect it. Do not assume reinstalling will preserve or restore your profile.
Do not delete profile folders, turn off antivirus or firewall protections, bypass operating-system security prompts, or run cleanup utilities without authoritative, platform-specific guidance.

- Your operating system and version, plus your device model or type.
- The Comet version, if you can find it.
- Whether the installer or the installed browser fails, and what you see when you try.
- The exact error text, if any, and when the problem began.
- The troubleshooting steps you have already tried.
