To host Cobblemon Realms, run the matching official Server Pack for Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1 on NeoForge with Java 21. Allocate about 8 GB of dedicated memory to start, extract the complete pack into a clean folder, launch the supplied script, configure server.properties, and expose TCP port 25565 only if players will connect over the internet. Keep every client and the server on exactly the same Cobblemon Realms version.
Running a modpack with friends? Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks (CurseForge, FTB, Technic) and free DDoS protection.
What a Cobblemon Realms server actually is
Cobblemon Realms is a modpack, not Mojang’s subscription-based Minecraft Realms service. A dedicated server runs the server-side files from the pack while each player runs the corresponding client pack. The server simulates the shared world, stores player and dimension data, applies the pack’s configuration, and accepts connections from compatible clients.

CobbledStudios states that “Cobblemon does NOT have an official server.” That means there is no single public Cobblemon server operated by the mod’s developers. You host your own instance, use a managed provider, or join a community server run by someone else. The official Realms documentation does, however, identify BisectHosting as its managed-hosting partner.
Software requirements and version matching
Version mismatches are the most common cause of failed launches and incompatible-mod errors. Build the server and client installation from the same release.

| Component | Required choice | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Minecraft | Java Edition 1.21.1 | Do not use a Bedrock installation or a different Minecraft release. |
| Mod loader | NeoForge | Use the loader and files supplied by the matching Server Pack. |
| Java runtime | Java 21 | java -version should report Java 21 before you launch. |
| Players’ files | Matching Cobblemon Realms client pack | Client and server filenames should carry the same pack version. |
| Server files | Official Cobblemon Realms Server Pack | Download the complete server archive, not the client pack. |
Do not install the client pack on a dedicated server, and do not copy only its mods/ directory. The server archive contains loader files, libraries, configuration and startup material that the server needs.
Hardware and network planning
Memory
The official multiplayer guidance treats 8 GB as a minimum recommendation. Allocate about 8 GB to the Java process as a starting point, but leave additional memory for the operating system and any other services on the machine. Larger worlds, more simultaneous players, exploration of new terrain and extra server-side additions can increase the requirement; watch actual memory use rather than assuming one fixed number works for every group.

Use SSD storage. World saves, region files, mod data and backups involve frequent small reads and writes, so an SSD generally gives the server a better response than a mechanical disk. Keep free space for at least one complete backup and for a second installation during updates. A practical shopping description is “1TB NVMe SSD,” but confirm that your motherboard supports the drive’s interface and that its capacity covers the world, logs and backup rotation you intend to keep. The documentation does not prescribe a brand, interface or exact capacity.
Internet connection
A stable network matters more than a headline download speed. For an internet-accessible home server, you will need a reachable host machine, a firewall rule and router port forwarding. The default game port is TCP 25565. A managed panel supplies its own address and port, so you do not normally configure your home router.

Self-hosting or managed hosting?
Both approaches run the same modpack. The difference is who operates the machine and the network.
| Consideration | Self-hosted machine | Managed host |
|---|---|---|
| Initial setup | Install Java, extract the Server Pack and run the supplied script. | Usually a one-click modpack installation in a control panel. |
| Recurring cost | No hosting-provider bill, although you pay for electricity, hardware and internet service. | Recurring provider charge; the exact price depends on the selected plan and region. |
| Port forwarding | You must configure the router and firewall for public access. | The provider supplies an address and port; home-router forwarding is not required. |
| Maintenance | You handle Java, pack updates, backups, logs and uptime. | The panel can simplify updates, backups and server controls, but you still manage your world and configuration. |
| Backups | Create and test your own copies, preferably before every update. | Integrated backup tools may be available; check retention and restoration controls. |
| DDoS protection | Not automatically included; protection depends on your network provider and equipment. | The official Realms partner describes integrated DDoS protection. |
| Location | Limited to your home or chosen physical machine. | Choose among the provider’s available data-center locations. |
| File and mod control | Full access to every file and process. | The official partner describes full file access, while the panel handles routine operations. |
The official wiki says: “Cobblemon Realms partners with BisectHosting, so you can host a server without configuring port forwarding or NeoForge manually.” It also describes one-click installation, worldwide data centers, integrated DDoS protection, simplified backups, update management and full file access. The wiki publishes a first-month discount code; verify the current terms before relying on any promotion.

How to install a Cobblemon Realms server at home
1. Confirm the software matrix
- Choose the Cobblemon Realms release you want to run.
- Download that release’s client pack for players and its official Server Pack for the server.
- Check that both filenames show the same Cobblemon Realms version.
- Install Java 21 on the host and confirm it with
java -version.
If the command reports another major Java version, correct the Java installation or the system path before proceeding. Starting with the wrong runtime can produce misleading loader or mod errors.
2. Prepare a clean server machine
- Create an empty folder dedicated to this server, such as a folder on your SSD.
- Give the Java process about 8 GB of memory initially, while reserving memory for the operating system.
- Ensure the account running the server can read and write the folder.
- Keep enough free storage for the live world and a complete backup.
Do not mix this installation with files from another Minecraft server. A clean directory makes it clear which files belong to the current pack and makes later updates safer.

3. Extract the complete Server Pack
- Download the exact Server Pack that matches the clients.
- Extract every file from the archive into the empty server folder.
- Do not copy only
mods/, and do not substitute the client pack. - Keep the supplied
run.batorrun.shscript in the extracted folder.
The complete archive may include libraries, configuration, scripts and other files that are not present in a client installation. Omitting them can prevent the server from starting or leave it running with an incomplete configuration.
4. Run the first launch
- On Windows, run
run.bat. On Linux or another Unix-like system, runrun.shfrom a terminal. - If the script creates
eula.txtand stops, open that file. - Read the Minecraft EULA. Set
eula=trueonly if you agree to it. - Run the supplied script again.
- Wait for the server to finish loading and inspect
logs/latest.logfor a completed startup.
Do not treat the appearance of a console window as proof that the server is ready. The log is the useful check: it should progress past mod loading and report that the server is listening.

Stop the server before editing files. Open server.properties in a text editor and review the settings that affect how players find and use the world.
| Property | Purpose | Recommended handling |
|---|---|---|
motd |
Text displayed in the server list. | Set a recognizable name and any essential rule notice. |
max-players |
Maximum simultaneous players. | Set it to the size your hardware and group can support. |
server-port |
TCP port used by the server. | Keep the default 25565 unless you have a reason to change it; match the firewall and router rule if you do. |
online-mode |
Whether normal account authentication is enforced. | Keep online-mode=true for a normal authenticated server. |
allow-flight |
Whether the server tolerates flight-related movement. | Set to true if the pack or a legitimate player action triggers the “Flying is not enabled on this server” kick, then restart. |
Save the file and restart the server after changes. Use the server console or the normal stop command rather than forcibly closing the process, so the world can save cleanly.

6. Open the server to the internet
- Allow the Java server process or TCP port 25565 through the host operating system’s firewall.
- In the router, create a port-forwarding rule for TCP 25565 to the host machine’s local IP address.
- Give players the public address and port. If you changed
server-port, provide that port instead. - Keep the host machine powered on and connected whenever the server should be available.
Port forwarding is unnecessary for a managed panel because that provider exposes the server through its own network. Never disable authentication merely to work around a connection problem; check the address, port, firewall and server readiness instead.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute7. Install and brief the clients
Every player must install the exact same Cobblemon Realms release and use a Java 21-compatible client setup. Tell players about any server-specific rules, added mods or custom features before they connect. A server can impose additional requirements beyond the base pack, so document those separately rather than assuming the public pack description covers them.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Safe updates without losing the world
Updating is safest when the new installation is treated as a separate deployment. Do not overwrite a working server in place.
- Announce downtime and stop the old server normally.
- Copy the entire old server folder to backup storage. Include the world, all dimensions, player data, administration files, logs and configuration.
- Verify that the backup exists and can be opened before changing anything.
- Create a new empty folder and extract the complete new Server Pack into it.
- Run the new installation once, allowing it to generate its expected files, then stop it.
- Restore the world data and dimensions from the backup.
- Review and selectively restore
server.properties, operator data, whitelist and ban files, and the server icon as needed. - Compare
world/serverconfig/andworld/datapacks/with the new installation. Merge deliberately; do not delete or replace them blindly. - Start the new server and inspect
logs/latest.logbefore inviting players back.
Do not copy old mod JARs, libraries, runtime JARs, or the old kubejs/ and defaultconfigs/ folders into the new installation. Those files may belong to the previous pack version and can recreate the incompatibility you were trying to remove. Keep the old folder untouched until the new world has loaded and players have confirmed that their builds and inventories are present.

Backups and routine administration
What a complete backup contains
- The main world directory and every dimension directory.
- Player inventories, advancements and other player data.
- Operator, whitelist and ban files.
server.propertiesand any intentionally customized administration settings.- Datapacks and the world’s server configuration.
- The server icon and notes identifying the pack version.
When to make one
- Before every modpack update.
- Before changing major world or datapack settings.
- Before inviting a large group or enabling an unfamiliar addition.
- On a recurring schedule while the server is active.
A backup is useful only if it is separate from the live world and can be restored. Keep at least one copy on different storage from the server drive, and label copies with the date and Cobblemon Realms version.

Troubleshooting common failures
The client will not start
- Confirm the client uses Java 21 where the launcher permits selecting a runtime.
- Check that the download completed and that the client has adequate memory.
- Reinstall the complete matching client pack rather than adding individual JARs by hand.
The server stops during startup
- Verify that you extracted the official Server Pack, not the client pack.
- Run the supplied
run.batorrun.shinstead of inventing a different command. - Confirm
java -versionreports Java 21. - Read the first meaningful error in
logs/latest.log; later stack-trace lines often only repeat the original failure. - Remove leftover JARs from an older installation and retry from a clean folder.
Incompatible-mod errors appear
- Compare the exact Cobblemon Realms version on every client with the server.
- Ensure Minecraft is 1.21.1 and the loader is NeoForge on both sides where required.
- Remove old mod JARs or manually copied files that are not part of the current Server Pack.
Players receive “connection refused”
- Confirm the server completed startup and is still running.
- Check the address and port the player entered.
- Verify the host firewall rule and router forwarding target.
- If you changed
server-port, make sure every firewall, router and client instruction uses the new value.
Players are kicked for flying
Stop the server, set allow-flight=true in server.properties, save the file and restart. If the message persists, check whether a movement-affecting mod or configuration is producing the kick rather than assuming the player is cheating.
Capacity, performance and security decisions
Start with the official 8 GB memory recommendation, then observe actual use as your player count and world grow. Avoid allocating all physical RAM to Java; the operating system, file cache and other services still need room. SSD storage reduces save and chunk-loading delays, while free space protects you from failed backups or a full disk.
Keep online-mode=true unless you have a specific, understood authentication architecture. Turning it off changes how accounts are verified and is not a general connection fix. Restrict administrative access to trusted operators, keep backups off the live disk, and perform updates in a separate directory so a failed deployment does not destroy the working world.
How many downloads does the pack have?
The Cobblemon Official Modpack (Fabric) page on CurseForge listed 3,820,787 downloads for CobbledStudios as accessed October 15, 2026. That figure describes downloads of that listed project and is not a measure of your server’s expected player capacity, performance or the number of active Cobblemon Realms servers.

Choosing the practical path
Self-host at home when you want full file-level control, already have a suitable SSD machine and are comfortable managing Java, port forwarding, firewall rules, backups and uptime. Choose managed Cobblemon Realms server hosting when you prefer a panel, provider networking, automated or simplified backups, DDoS protection and a data-center location over operating the infrastructure yourself. In either case, the technical rule that matters most remains the same: install the complete matching Server Pack, use Java 21 on Minecraft 1.21.1 with NeoForge, and back up the entire server before every update.
