The Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) announced on August 21, 2025, that more than 100 people had earned Golden Kubestronaut status in less than five months. The milestone followed the community’s passage of 2,000 Kubestronaut badges and recognizes a broad set of cloud-native credentials.

What is a Golden Kubestronaut?

A Golden Kubestronaut is someone who has completed the certification requirements CNCF set for the program. The recognition represents breadth across Kubernetes administration, observability, security, platform engineering and related cloud-native skills—not a single exam or standalone course.

What certifications were required for Golden status?

At the time of the August 21, 2025 announcement, the stated requirement was to complete all CNCF certifications plus the Linux Foundation Certified Sysadmin (LFCS). CNCF also said it would add the CNPA certification beginning October 15, 2025, with future CNCF certifications included as the program evolves.

Because the requirement set was announced as evolving, the 2025 description should not be treated as a definitive current checklist. Confirm the live requirements on CNCF’s certification page before planning exams. The announcement does not give a complete exam catalog, prices, pass rates or preparation-course details.

How do you become a Golden Kubestronaut?

Start by checking CNCF’s current Golden Kubestronaut criteria, then map the required certifications to your existing credentials and preparation needs. This avoids investing in an exam path based on the announcement’s earlier requirements.

  1. Verify the current checklist. Use CNCF’s certification information to identify every credential currently required, including any additions made after the 2025 announcement.
  2. Plan the exam sequence. Compare the certification requirements with your experience and schedule. Check each exam’s current validity and renewal rules directly with its official provider.
  3. Choose preparation that fits the exam. Compare self-paced and instructor-led training, hands-on lab depth, cost and whether the provider is officially connected to CNCF or Linux Foundation Education. The CNCF milestone announcement does not establish those details for individual courses.
  4. Complete the required credentials and confirm recognition. Follow the current program instructions for documenting completed certifications and receiving Golden status.

Where are Golden Kubestronauts based?

CNCF described the community as spanning North and South America, Europe and Asia. Countries named in the announcement included Austria, Brazil, Canada, India, Japan, Singapore, Germany, the Netherlands, France, the United States, Bangladesh, Mongolia and Vietnam. The announcement presents these as examples of the community’s reach, not a complete member directory.

Does Golden Kubestronaut status expire?

No. CNCF Cloud Native Training and Certification Lead Christophe Sauthier wrote: “Once you’ve earned Golden Kubestronaut status, it’s yours for life.” That is the permanence commitment in the August 21, 2025 announcement; it does not mean individual underlying certifications have no separate validity or renewal rules.
