The CMF Phone 1 has the faster-refreshing screen and higher stated wired-charging rate; Samsung’s Galaxy M17 5G offers optical image stabilization, an ultra-wide camera, IP54 protection, expandable storage, and a much longer stated software-support period. Both list 5,000 mAh batteries. There is no verified current, like-for-like price comparison in the available figures, so the better buy depends on your priorities and the prices for matching variants where you shop.

These are manufacturer-published specifications, not results from a controlled head-to-head test. The brightness figures use different measurement descriptions—peak brightness for CMF and HBM peak brightness for Samsung—so they should not be treated as a direct lab comparison. Chip names, megapixels and battery capacity alone do not establish which phone is faster, takes better photos or lasts longer in everyday use. Which phone has the better display?
CMF Phone 1: higher refresh rate
CMF lists a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with an adaptive refresh rate up to 120 Hz. That gives it the higher stated refresh rate of the two, which can make supported motion and scrolling appear smoother. The benefit depends on the content and settings, and the specification does not establish overall screen quality.

Samsung lists a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED panel running at 90 Hz. Its stated size is slightly larger, while its refresh rate is lower than CMF’s. Samsung’s 1,100-nit HBM figure and Nothing’s 2,000-nit peak figure refer to differently described conditions; they do not prove which screen is brighter in a like-for-like measurement.

Camera differences: stabilization and an ultra-wide option
The M17’s rear setup is specified as three cameras: a 50 MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 5 MP ultra-wide camera and a 2 MP macro camera. OIS can help reduce movement blur in some shooting conditions, but it is not a guarantee of shake-free results. Samsung calls “No shake camera” a creative expression for OIS and says results can vary with conditions.
CMF lists a 50 MP Sony main camera and a dedicated portrait sensor. Its cited specification does not list an ultra-wide camera. The front-camera resolutions are 16 MP for CMF and 13 MP for Samsung, but pixel counts do not by themselves determine selfie quality. No controlled comparison establishes a camera-quality winner.

Battery and charging: same capacity, different rated speeds
Both manufacturers list a 5,000 mAh battery. CMF specifies 33 W wired charging, compared with Samsung’s 25 W fast charging; Samsung says the charger is sold separately. The higher wattage is a stated charging specification, not proof of a particular real-world charging time. No comparable endurance or charging test is established for these phones.

Choose the M17 for documented protection and microSD expansion
Samsung specifies IP54 dust and splash resistance, Gorilla Glass Victus, and microSD support up to 2 TB. The microSD card shares a hybrid slot with a SIM, so using expandable storage may mean giving up the second SIM position. Check card compatibility and the slot arrangement before buying.

Choose CMF for a customizable exterior
Nothing highlights the Phone 1’s detachable back and accessory attachment point as customization features. That is a different kind of flexibility from the M17’s ingress-protection and storage specifications. Confirm that a case or attachment is designed for Phone 1 before purchasing it.

Nothing states that the CMF Phone 1 will receive two years of major Android updates and three years of security updates. Samsung states six generations of OS upgrades and six years of security updates for the Galaxy M17; its product page gives 30 September 2031 as the security-support end date. Samsung notes that update plans and timing can change. On the manufacturers’ stated policies, the M17 has the longer support window.

Price difference in India: launch prices are not today’s prices
Samsung’s 13 October 2025 India launch announcement listed these Galaxy M17 5G prices. The 4 GB/128 GB figure was a net price including a special launch offer; the release also named Amazon, Samsung.com and select retail stores as sales channels.

These are dated launch prices, not confirmed prices as of October 2026. Nothing’s India product page offers an 8 GB/128 GB selector and links to Flipkart, but the cited page does not provide a comparable current price. A third-party comparison result showed ₹19,999 for the CMF Phone 1 marked out of stock and ₹20,499 for the M17 at Amazon; those are snapshot figures, not verified live listings, so they do not establish today’s price difference. To compare what you would actually pay, check the same day’s listings for equivalent RAM and storage configurations. Compare the retailer, seller, stock status and listed price, then account for coupons and bank offers separately; the checkout price may differ from the list price.
