Which registrar should you choose?
Choose Cloudflare if you want at-cost pricing and Cloudflare DNS
Cloudflare says it charges the price set by registries and ICANN, with no registrar markup. Its live Registrar price table shows rates by supported extension, including registration, renewal, transfer and restore prices. This makes Cloudflare a natural choice if you already use its DNS services or are comfortable making it your authoritative DNS provider.

#1 Best Overall
Consider Namecheap for its service mix or an eligible offer
Namecheap may suit you if its domain-related services are useful, you want its listed support and DNS features, or you qualify for a first-year deal. A promotion is not the same as the recurring cost: check the renewal price and eligibility terms before registering.
Compare the actual price, not just the headline offer
Provider prices are volatile and depend on the TLD, term, promotion eligibility, premium-domain status and applicable fees. The following Namecheap figures were displayed on its official pages as accessed on October 7, 2026; they are provider-published prices, not independent measurements.
| Namecheap .com item | Displayed price | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| First-year price | $11.28 | Displayed .com price on the current price table. |
| Renewal | $18.48 | Displayed .com renewal price. |
| New-customer promotion | $6.79 for the first year | Limited to one domain purchase per user or household and subject to offer terms. |
| Transfer | $11.48 | Displayed on Namecheap’s .com registration page. |
Namecheap says a $0.20 ICANN fee is added at purchase for some domains. The final checkout amount can therefore differ from a displayed price. Check the current domain price list and the .com page for the exact extension and transaction you plan to make.
Cloudflare’s prices also differ by extension, so do not assume a static .com figure or extrapolate one TLD’s price to another. Check its live table for the exact registration, renewal, transfer and restore amounts before checkout.

Check DNS, privacy and security requirements
Nameservers and DNS
Cloudflare Registrar requires Cloudflare nameservers. That is distinct from simply buying a domain: if your site or business depends on another authoritative DNS provider, confirm that you can change providers before transferring or registering there. Namecheap lists BasicDNS and DNSSEC for .com; verify the available configuration and terms for your domain.
Privacy and domain protection
Cloudflare lists WHOIS redaction, domain locking and one-click DNSSEC among its included features. Namecheap lists free privacy for eligible domains, along with registrar lock and DNSSEC on eligible domains. Eligibility and service terms matter, so check the applicable extension’s details on Namecheap’s domain privacy page rather than assuming every domain receives the same coverage.
Bundled services
Cloudflare’s registrar offering is integrated with its DNS, CDN and SSL services. Namecheap promotes related domain, hosting, email and SSL services. Choose based on whether you value consolidation into one provider or prefer to select services independently; neither provider’s product pages establish a general performance advantage.
Understand the limits of the comparison
The available product information supports a comparison of listed prices, features and Cloudflare’s nameserver requirement, but it does not establish which provider has better DNS performance, uptime, usability or support quality. Namecheap advertises 24/7 support, but that claim is not a head-to-head service test.
Best Value
Cloudflare also states in its Registrar FAQ that completed registration, renewal and transfer charges passed to registries are non-refundable. Review the relevant provider’s current terms before completing a transaction.
Quick Recap
How to make the decision
- Identify your exact extension and term. Check that the TLD is supported and compare the same registration period at both providers.
- Compare recurring costs. Look at renewal and transfer prices as well as the first-year price, and check the final checkout total for fees or premium-domain pricing.
- Confirm DNS compatibility. Choose Cloudflare only if Cloudflare nameservers work for your setup; otherwise, verify that Namecheap’s DNS options meet your needs.
- Check privacy eligibility. Confirm that WHOIS privacy or redaction applies to your specific TLD and review the provider’s terms.
- Choose based on the trade-off. Favor Cloudflare for at-cost pricing when its nameserver requirement is acceptable; consider Namecheap when its service mix or a qualifying offer better fits your purchase.
