Cloudflare Dynamic Workers let a Worker load and run code supplied at runtime inside a separate V8-isolate sandbox. They are designed for short-lived, permissioned execution—such as code written by an AI agent—not as a drop-in replacement for every container. Cloudflare calls isolate startup “around 100x faster” than a typical container, but that is a vendor comparison, not an independently verified benchmark or a promise of 100x faster agent responses.
What are Cloudflare Dynamic Workers?
Dynamic Workers are an on-demand code execution feature for Cloudflare Workers. A host Worker can load another Worker using code supplied at runtime, then invoke it inside its own sandbox. The sandbox uses V8 isolates, the same basic isolation primitive used by the Workers platform. Cloudflare describes the API as allowing a Worker to instantiate another Worker “in its own sandbox, with code specified at runtime, all on the fly.” Cloudflare’s March 24, 2026 announcement introduced the API as Dynamic Worker Loader; the Dynamic Workers documentation describes it as a low-level primitive.

A useful mental model is: load a code fragment, give it only the interfaces it needs, run it, and discard it. That differs from evaluating generated code directly inside the host application: the loaded code runs in a separate execution environment. The host developer still decides what data, bindings, and network access to grant.
What are Dynamic Workers designed to do?
Cloudflare lists several intended use cases in its documentation. These are product use cases, not proof that every workload will benefit equally.
#1 Best Overall
- The Raspberry Pi Pico is a beginner-friendly microcontroller board that uses MicroPython to give you a taste of the Internet of Things and microcontrollers. The RP2040 is a well-designed microprocessor that can be utilized in almost any Internet of Things project. It has enough power to complete the task quickly.
- 【Raspberry Pi RP2040 Microcontroller】Raspberry Pi Pico features Dual-core ARM Cortex M0+ processor, flexible clock running up to 133 MHz. With 264KB of SRAM, and 2MB of on-board Flash memory.Supports up to 16 MB of off chip flash memory via a dedicated QSPI bus
- 【Multiple Software Support】Pico has rich and complete software support, it comes with a complete Rasberry Pi official C/C++ SDK, Micropython SDK.The programming and burning of Pico need to be carried out on the computer. Supported operating systems and computers include:Raspberry Pie with Raspberry Pi OS,Other platforms equipped with Debian based Linux system Computer with MacOS, Computers with Windows, etc.
- 【Rich Hardware Interface】Raspberry Pi Pico has 30 GPIO pins, 4 pins for analog signal input and 26 × multi-function GPIO pins, 2 × SPI, 2 × I2C, 2 × UART, 3 × 12-bit ADC, 16 × controllable PWM channels.USB 1.1 supported by host and device, The installation mode can be flexibly selected by users to facilitate welding with other development boards.
- 【Build Project in Tiny Size】Only 2.1cm*5.1cm ( as small as your thumb). Pico has been designed to use either soldered 0.1" pin-headers or can be used as a surface-mountable 'module'.
- AI Agent Code Mode: an LLM writes a small program that calls an API or processes data, rather than making a separate tool call for each action. Cloudflare’s documentation says this pattern can “save up to 80% in inference tokens and cost”; that is a separate claim about the Code Mode pattern, not a measure of isolate startup speed. The page was last updated April 21, 2026. Cloudflare Developers documentation
- AI-generated applications: run code or apps generated for a user, including “vibe code.” Persistent application data may require a separate storage design, discussed below.
- Previews and playgrounds: execute code in development environments without running it directly in the main application.
- Custom automations: let generated or user-provided code transform information, call selected services, or chain actions.
- User-uploaded applications: provide a platform where users can submit code for execution under the platform’s chosen controls.
Is a Dynamic Worker really 100x faster than a container?
That wording is Cloudflare’s characterization, not an independent benchmark result. In its March 24, 2026 announcement, Cloudflare said an isolate starts in a few milliseconds and uses a few megabytes of memory, then described this as “around 100x faster and 10x-100x more memory efficient than a typical container.” The cited materials do not provide a reproducible benchmark protocol, tested workloads, container configuration, or independent verification. Cloudflare’s announcement
Interpret the comparison as a claim about runtime startup and memory footprint—not end-to-end agent latency. A model’s inference time, network requests, code packaging, application work, and configured resource limits can all affect how long a task takes; Cloudflare’s cited comparison does not quantify those effects.
For a small, on-demand JavaScript snippet, isolate startup may be a meaningful part of the work. For a task dominated by remote API calls or model inference, the startup difference may matter less to the total wait. The available sources do not establish a universal break-even point.

Dynamic Workers versus containers
The useful choice depends on the runtime, permissions, lifetime, and state your workload needs—not just the headline speed comparison.
| Consideration | Dynamic Worker | Container |
|---|---|---|
| Startup and memory | Cloudflare says isolates start in a few milliseconds and use a few megabytes. | Cloudflare characterizes a typical container as taking hundreds of milliseconds to start and using hundreds of megabytes. These are vendor comparisons, not independently verified measurements. Source: Cloudflare, March 24, 2026 |
| Runtime environment | Runs within the Workers environment. Cloudflare says JavaScript is fastest for small on-demand snippets; Workers can also use Python and WebAssembly. | May be a better fit when the workload needs a general-purpose Linux environment, specific system tools, or a broader runtime setup. The cited sources do not provide a controlled feature-by-feature comparison. |
| Capabilities | The host can choose bindings, pass structured data, configure or intercept outbound networking, apply custom resource limits, and use Tail Workers for logging, according to Cloudflare’s documentation. Source: Cloudflare Developers | Capabilities depend on how the container and its surrounding infrastructure are configured; the cited sources do not compare specific container products. |
| State and lifetime | Can be used for short-lived execution. For generated applications that need durable state, Cloudflare describes Durable Object Facets with their own SQLite database. Source: Cloudflare, April 13, 2026 | State and persistence depend on the container platform and attached storage; the cited sources do not compare implementations. |
A Dynamic Worker is a candidate when you need fast, temporary execution within Workers and can define a narrow set of permissions. A container may be more suitable when the application depends on a general-purpose operating-system environment or tools outside the Workers model. The reviewed sources do not establish a universal winner or a controlled comparison across those requirements.
Can you safely run AI-generated code?
A separate isolate is a useful security boundary, but it does not make arbitrary hostile code harmless. Cloudflare itself says hardening isolate-based sandboxing is difficult and that it presents a more complicated attack surface than hardware virtual machines. Its security discussion argues for defense in depth; it does not describe Dynamic Workers as a substitute for threat modeling or operational controls. Cloudflare’s security discussion

The host application controls what a Dynamic Worker can do. Cloudflare’s announcement demonstrates passing a chat-room RPC stub while setting globalOutbound: null to block internet access. This illustrates least-capability design: provide only the data and interfaces required for the task, and do not grant general network access by default if the workload does not need it. That example is illustrative, not a complete production security recipe. Cloudflare’s announcement
Recommended Free Tools
- Limit bindings and data: pass only the specific APIs and information the generated code needs.
- Control egress: decide whether network access is needed; configure outbound access accordingly rather than assuming it is denied automatically.
- Set resource limits: use the custom limits documented for the feature to constrain execution.
- Log and monitor: Cloudflare lists Tail Workers as a logging option; choose monitoring appropriate to your application and threat model.
- Use defense in depth: treat isolation as one layer, especially when code may be malicious or exposed to untrusted users.
Can a Dynamic Worker access the internet or use Python?
Internet access
It depends on how the host configures the dynamic Worker. The developer can control whether it can reach the network, and Cloudflare’s announcement example blocks outbound access with globalOutbound: null. Do not assume every Dynamic Worker is offline by default, or that every one receives unrestricted internet access; the host’s configuration determines the capability. Cloudflare’s announcement and documentation
Python and WebAssembly
Cloudflare says Workers, including dynamic ones, can use Python and WebAssembly. It characterizes JavaScript as faster to load and run for small generated snippets. That is a performance characterization for that use case, not a statement that Python or WebAssembly are unavailable. Cloudflare’s announcement
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.How do you load a Dynamic Worker?
Cloudflare’s announcement demonstrates loading a module with a main module, module definitions, a compatibility date, explicit environment bindings, and an outbound-network setting. The host then invokes an entrypoint RPC method. The following is the shape of the example, not a complete production security recipe:
const worker = env.LOADER.get(id, {
mainModule: "worker.js",
modules: { "worker.js": generatedCode },
compatibilityDate: "2026-03-24",
env: { CHAT_ROOM: chatRoomStub },
globalOutbound: null,
});
const result = await worker.run(input);
Exact APIs and supported configuration may change; consult the current Dynamic Workers documentation before implementing the feature. In particular, choose bindings and networking permissions deliberately instead of copying example settings without considering the code’s needs.

A one-off dynamic Worker can be discarded after its task. For generated applications that need data to persist, Cloudflare’s April 13, 2026 description presents Durable Object Facets: a developer writes a Durable Object supervisor, loads generated code as a Dynamic Worker, and instantiates a class from that code as a facet. The facet has its own SQLite database, separate from the supervisor’s database. The supervisor can provide a place to mediate requests and apply controls such as logging, metrics, billing, or limits.
