There was no single documented outage in which Cloudflare, AWS and Google Cloud all failed together. Official incident reports describe separate events on different dates: a Google Cloud disruption and a related Cloudflare Workers KV disruption on June 12, 2025; an AWS US-EAST-1 incident on October 19–20, 2025; and separate Cloudflare and Google Cloud incidents in 2026. The events show how failures in a cloud service, a network path or a regional dependency can disrupt services people use without taking down the entire internet.
What happened—and was AWS down at the same time?
The headline can sound like one three-provider outage, but the incident records do not support that reading. AWS’s documented US-EAST-1 disruption began more than four months after the June 2025 Google Cloud and Cloudflare events. Cloudflare’s February 2026 network incident and Google Cloud’s August 2026 regional incident were separate again.

The June events are the closest connection between the providers: Google Cloud reported a global incident, while Cloudflare said a third-party cloud provider outage affected storage infrastructure used by Workers KV. Cloudflare’s account establishes an upstream dependency issue, but does not identify that provider in the information available here. It therefore does not establish that AWS failed during the event or prove that all three companies were part of one outage.

Google Cloud: Service Control policy change, June 12, 2025
Google Cloud said its incident started at 10:49 a.m. Pacific and ended at 1:49 p.m. Pacific. Multiple products saw increased 503 errors in external API requests. Google’s explanation places the initiating change in regional Spanner tables used by Service Control; it was not a report that every Google Cloud region or service went offline.
During the disruption, the Associated Press reported effects on services including Spotify and Discord. AP quoted Google Cloud as saying, “We have identified the root cause and applied appropriate mitigations.” That was a statement during the incident, not evidence that every affected service had recovered at that moment.

Cloudflare: Workers KV dependency, June 12, 2025
Workers KV is storage used by other Cloudflare products. Cloudflare said some of its underlying storage infrastructure relied on a third-party cloud provider that experienced an outage. The resulting disruption reached products dependent on KV, including the services listed in the timeline. This is an example of an upstream provider problem propagating to another infrastructure provider’s products; it is not evidence that every Cloudflare service failed.

AWS attributed its US-EAST-1 service errors to DNS resolution for the region’s DynamoDB service endpoints. The reported scope included AWS services and Amazon properties and subsidiaries, as well as AWS Support operations. The timestamps are in PDT, as AWS reported them; they should not be read as UTC.

- NIGHTHAWK WIFI 6 ROUTER FOR YOUR WHOLE HOME: Delivers fast, reliable WiFi across every room of your apartment or small home for streaming, gaming, video calls, and smart home devices, all running at the same time without slowing each other down.
- WORKS WITH YOUR EXISTING INTERNET SERVICE: Pairs with your existing modem or gateway via ethernet. Compatible with most cable, fiber, DSL, and satellite providers. Some gateways and modem router combos may require bridge mode. No coax needed.
- SET UP AND MANAGE YOUR NETWORK WITH THE NIGHTHAWK APP: Download the free Nighthawk app on iOS or Android for guided setup. Manage WiFi, run speed tests, pause devices, and set up guest networks from anywhere. Active internet required.
- READY FOR THE DEVICES YOU ALREADY OWN: Your phones, laptops, and TVs work right out of the box. WiFi 6 delivers speeds up to 1.8 Gbps across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Backward compatible with WiFi 5 and earlier.
- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
Cloudflare: customer prefixes withdrawn, February 20, 2026
Cloudflare said a change in its BYOIP pipeline unintentionally withdrew customer IP prefixes through BGP, a routing protocol used to exchange reachability information between networks. If a prefix is withdrawn, networks may no longer have a route to the associated service, making it unreachable even if the service itself is still running. Cloudflare reported about 1,100 prefixes withdrawn before remediation and explicitly said the event was not caused directly or indirectly by a cyberattack or malicious activity.
Google Cloud: reduced capacity and congestion, August 20, 2026
Google Cloud said scheduled fiber-optic maintenance unexpectedly reduced network capacity between data centers in us-west1. Automated rerouting did not shift traffic effectively to alternate capacity, and the region experienced congestion, packet loss, throttling and latency. Google’s report specifically says workloads outside us-west1 remained operational and unaffected, so this incident should not be described as a global Google Cloud outage.

Why an outage at one provider can affect another service
Cloud services are connected through dependencies. An application may rely on one provider for compute, another for storage or routing, and still other systems for identity, APIs or delivery. A failure in a dependency can therefore cause errors in services whose customers do not directly use the upstream provider.

That relationship helps explain why users may see Cloudflare products fail during an upstream cloud disruption. It does not by itself show that all providers named in a headline failed, nor that one failure caused every problem reported that day.

Other incidents in the timeline involved different mechanisms: a control-plane policy change, DNS resolution, withdrawn network prefixes, and reduced regional capacity combined with ineffective rerouting. Similar symptoms—timeouts, errors or unreachable services—can have very different causes.
Was the whole internet down?
No. The incidents affected particular providers, products, regions or dependencies; they do not establish that the entire internet stopped working. A cloud provider can host or support services that are widely used, so a disruption can feel widespread while other networks, providers and applications continue operating.
Location and service scope matter. Google Cloud’s August 2026 report limited the described impact to us-west1 and said workloads in other regions were unaffected. Likewise, an error reaching a particular app does not by itself reveal whether the fault is in that app, its cloud provider, a network route, a DNS lookup or the connection between the user and the service.

How to check a suspected outage
- Check the provider’s status page. Look for an active incident affecting the product or region you use, and note the reported start time, current status and stated scope. Status pages can change as incidents are investigated, so an initial notice may be less specific than a later update.
- Check whether the problem is local or broader. Compare access from another connection or location if practical, and see whether unrelated sites work. If only one service fails, that narrows the symptom but does not confirm its cause.
- Use outage data for context, not as a final diagnosis. Cloudflare Radar’s outage information includes location, ASN, type, scope, likely cause and start and end times. A listed likely cause is provisional unless confirmed by a provider postmortem.
- Separate a user report from a confirmed cause. Reports that an app is unavailable can help indicate impact, but they do not establish which infrastructure failed. Prefer a provider’s incident report for the cause and scope when one is available.
What the incident reports establish
- The documented events occurred on separate dates; they do not establish a simultaneous Cloudflare, AWS and Google Cloud outage.
- The June 2025 Cloudflare disruption involved a third-party cloud dependency affecting Workers KV storage, while Google’s same-day report describes a Service Control policy change. The information here does not establish that the two incidents shared one root cause.
- A provider’s incident duration, a product’s degraded period and the number of people affected are different measures. The incident records cited here do not provide a single comparable total of unique people affected across these events.
- Regional scope matters: a reported regional incident should not be generalized to every service or region operated by that provider.
