Clone Robotics Shows Torso 3’s Five-Finger Hand Ahead of Torso 4 Plans

Clone Robotics’ five-finger hand video shows human teleoperation of its older Torso 3 platform—not the upcoming Torso 4 robot.

No: the October 1, 2026 video does not show Clone Robotics’ forthcoming Torso 4. It shows a person remotely operating the five-finger hand of the company’s older Torso 3 platform. Torso 4 is a separate, redesigned system that Interesting Engineering reports is targeted for launch in November 2026.

What the video shows

Clone Robotics’ company account labeled the October 1 video “Teleoperation of the Hand of Torso 3,” according to Interesting Engineering’s October 2, 2026 report. Teleoperation means a human controls the robot remotely. The clip therefore demonstrates a remotely operated hand, not autonomous operation.

The report says the hand was built in April 2026 and was the last of Clone Robotics’ legacy designs. Its five fingers are pulled by artificial muscles and tendons, in a design described as following human anatomy. The video establishes that this hand was teleoperated; it does not establish how well it performs across tasks or without human input.

How Torso 4 differs from the demonstrated hand

Torso 4 is the forthcoming redesign, not the robot shown in the clip. Interesting Engineering reports that Clone spent six months on the redesign, prioritizing easier simulation and control while aiming to retain human-level capabilities. That is a design aim, not a performance result demonstrated by the Torso 3 video.

The report gives November 2026 as the target launch for Torso 4 and describes its intended work as stationary, two-arm enterprise tasks. Both the timing and the use case are announced plans. The report does not identify completed Torso 4 tasks or quantify how much human assistance the system will require.

How the five-finger approach compares with Atlas

The report contrasts Clone’s five-finger, anatomy-inspired design with Boston Dynamics’ four-finger Atlas hands. It says the fifth finger was omitted from Atlas to limit cost, size, and potential failure points, while both designs share an interest in making hardware easier to simulate and control.

Clone Robotics’ Torso 3 hand Five fingers; artificial muscles and tendons, following human anatomy Clone’s redesign priorities include easier simulation and control; the report does not quantify a tradeoff for this legacy hand.
Boston Dynamics’ Atlas hands Four fingers The report says omitting a fifth finger limits cost, size, and potential failure points; easier simulation and control are shared priorities.

Finger count alone does not establish which hand is more capable. The report provides no comparable task results for the two designs.

What has—and has not—been established about Torso 4

The available reporting supports a distinction between a past demonstration and a future plan: the video is Torso 3 teleoperation footage, while Torso 4 is expected to target stationary two-arm enterprise work. It does not show Torso 4 performing that work, prove autonomous operation, or specify the degree of human oversight it will need. The November 2026 date remains a target, not confirmation of a launch.
