Climbey’s October 2, 2026 update adds support for receiving eye-openness data over OSC. The change follows SteamVR beta 2.18.2, which reportedly exposed the signal while streaming from Steam Frame. It concerns how open or closed the eyelids are—not where the user is looking—and Climbey’s brief note does not say what players will see in-game.
What Climbey added
The official Climbey Steam Community feed lists the October 2, 2026 update with the line: “Add support for Eye-Openness via OSC”. That confirms the application added support for this data route, but the note does not describe a visible effect, a setting, or whether anything must be configured.

How the Steam Frame signal reaches an app
MIXED reports that SteamVR beta 2.18.2 introduced the feature on October 1, 2026. It quotes Valve’s release note: “Expose eye openness information when streaming from Steam Frame, via OSC. (This requires Steam OS 0.4.3, or higher). In an upcoming release, eye openness will also be available via the OpenVR SDK.” MIXED’s report attributes the stated requirement to SteamOS 0.4.3 or higher on the headset and describes the signal as available while streaming from Steam Frame.

The note describes a specific Steam Frame streaming setup; it does not establish that all headsets or standalone apps expose the same data. Valve’s quoted wording says OpenVR SDK support is coming in an unspecified upcoming release, not that it was already available.

Eye openness is not gaze tracking
Eye openness describes how open or shut the eyelids are. An app could use that information to drive an avatar blink or squint, but the signal alone does not tell the app where the person is looking. It therefore should not be treated as gaze-direction input or as evidence of support for gaze-based foveated rendering.
Those are possible uses of the signal, not confirmed Climbey behavior. The update note does not say that avatars blink or squint, whether the feature is enabled by default, or whether users need to configure OSC.

How quickly Climbey followed Valve’s beta update
MIXED gives the SteamVR beta feature a release time of 18:22 UTC on October 1 and Climbey’s update a posting time of 17:13 UTC on October 2: an elapsed 22 hours and 51 minutes. The Steam Community feed confirms Climbey’s update date, but not its posting time, so the precise interval comes from MIXED; “22 hours” is a rounded description.
