What’s actually slowing this PC down?

On Windows, clear the cache in the browser where Facebook is open. On a phone, Facebook’s documented Clear control removes browsing data from links opened in Facebook’s in-app browser; it is not a command to clear all Facebook app storage. These are separate data stores, so choose the steps that match where you use Facebook.
What “Facebook cache” means
Facebook may be open as a website in a browser, or you may be viewing a link inside Facebook’s in-app browser. Each has its own stored browsing data and its own controls. Google Account Help says a browser cache remembers parts of pages, such as images, to help them open faster later. Microsoft Support similarly describes Edge’s cached temporary internet files as resources that help pages load faster.

Clearing browser data concerns locally stored browsing information. The instructions below do not delete Facebook posts, messages, or account data.

Microsoft Edge
- In Edge, open the browsing-data controls labeled Delete browsing data.
- Choose the time range you want to cover.
- Select the data types to delete. To remove cached files, include the cached temporary internet files option; check the other selections before continuing.
- If sync is enabled, review whether the deletion applies on this device or across synced devices, then confirm.
Edge’s controls can include cookies and other browsing data as well as cached files. If you select those too, the deletion is broader than a cache-only clear. Removing cookies can affect sign-ins or site preferences.
Google Chrome
- Open Chrome’s Clear browsing data controls.
- Choose the time range.
- Select Cached images and files. Review the other selected data types so you know what else will be removed.
- Confirm the deletion.
Chrome’s interface wording can vary by release. Selecting only cached images and files targets the cache; selecting cookies, history, or other options removes those data types too.

If you use a separate browser app on your phone
If Facebook is open in a browser app such as Chrome rather than inside Facebook, clear cached data from that browser’s own settings. Facebook’s in-app browser control does not target the separate browser’s stored files.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to know about clearing the Facebook app cache on iPhone
The official instructions described here establish a way to clear the in-app browser’s browsing data, but do not establish a universal cache-only procedure for all Facebook app data on iPhone. Treating app deletion or reinstallation as a cache-only step would go beyond what those instructions support.
