Let a cold shelf warm to room temperature before washing it, and remove it only as your Samsung refrigerator’s model instructions allow. For most removable glass shelves, use water with mild detergent or glass cleaner, then dry with a clean lint-free cloth. Do not force a shelf or pry glass from a frame that is not designed to come apart.
Before you remove or clean a shelf
- Check the manual for your exact refrigerator model. Samsung says removal steps vary by model; if a shelf does not release as described, stop and follow the model-specific instructions instead of forcing it. Find the model number and the appropriate manual through Samsung’s shelf and drawer removal guide.
- Empty the shelf and prepare a clear, stable surface to set it on. Handle glass carefully: it can break and cause injury.
- If the glass is cold, let it reach room temperature before cleaning. Do not pour warm or hot water over cold glass; the sudden temperature change can crack or shatter it.
How to remove a standard glass shelf
- Open the corresponding refrigerator door fully.
- Hold the front of the shelf, lift it gently, and slide it out. Avoid lifting excessively or forcing it past a stop. If the door clearance or shelf mechanism differs from these general directions, consult the manual for your model.
Samsung’s general guidance also describes reinstalling a standard shelf by angling the front higher than the back, engaging the top hook in the top notch, and lowering the shelf so the bottom hook engages. Use the model manual if its design differs.

How to remove the glass shelf above the crisper drawers
The bottom shelf may be part of a larger assembly, so it can take more steps than an ordinary lift-out shelf. Depending on the model, you may first need to remove the vegetable drawers; some designs also require removing lower door bins and both crisper drawers before releasing tabs near the drawer divider or water-filter housing. Lift and angle the shelf slightly as you pull it out, then set it on a flat, stable surface.

Should you separate the glass from its plastic frame?
Only separate the glass when the shelf has designed retainer clips and the instructions for your model allow it. Samsung describes clips at the back corners where the glass meets the frame, but some assemblies do not have removable clips. Do not pry glass out of a non-separable frame: doing so can damage the shelf. See Samsung’s guidance on shelf frames and clips.
How to wash and dry the glass
- Once the shelf is at room temperature, wash the glass with water and mild detergent or glass cleaner.
- Wipe it dry with a clean lint-free cloth before putting it back.
- Handle the shelf gently and avoid impacts or abrupt temperature changes while cleaning.

If debris is trapped between the glass and frame
If the glass-and-frame assembly is not designed to separate, do not pry it apart to reach trapped residue. Samsung US advises soaking the entire shelf in a water-and-bleach solution; if that does not clean it sufficiently, the shelf must be replaced. Follow the instructions for your model when handling the assembly. The replacement must match the refrigerator, so identify the model before looking for a compatible shelf.

For a shelf or glass panel with clips designed to release, follow the removal steps in reverse, as Samsung instructs. For a standard shelf, use the hook-and-notch sequence in the model manual; Samsung’s general guidance is to angle the front above the back, engage the top hook in its notch, then lower the shelf until the bottom hook engages. Make sure the shelf is seated securely before loading it.
