Claude Statuspane is an open-source Claude Code mod that reportedly displays session usage, context pressure, running cost, Git details and CI status in a floating terminal card. It is a personal visibility tool, not a built-in Claude Code feature or an organization-wide audit system. The implementation details below are reported by DevOps.com; they have not been independently verified here.
What is Claude Statuspane?
Tom Smith’s October 5, 2026, DevOps.com report describes Statuspane as an open-source mod created by Anji Xu and published on GitHub under the MIT license. It uses Claude Code’s mod system to put a floating status card above the prompt, rather than relying on Claude Code’s existing statusLine setting, which runs a shell script to print a single line.

The report says the mod system is in early access and its API may change between Claude Code releases. Statuspane should therefore be understood as a project built on an evolving interface, not a stable built-in capability.
What does the card show?
According to DevOps.com, the card can combine several kinds of session and repository context in one place:
#1 Best Overall
- The active model and reasoning effort.
- Context-window usage, shown as a percentage or used-versus-total tokens.
- Five-hour and seven-day usage limits, with reset countdowns.
- Current directory, Git branch and running session cost.
The report describes context gauge colors changing at 60% and 85%. It also says a compact button can invoke /compact, the card follows Claude Code themes, and the display can collapse to a button. These are reported implementation details, not independently tested behavior.
How does it surface CI and other work?
GitHub Actions
With the user signed in through GitHub CLI, Statuspane reportedly shows the latest GitHub Actions run for the current branch. It checks once a minute, increasing to every 10 seconds while a run is active. An optional mode follows runs triggered by git push or gh pr merge; completed runs remain visible for 10 minutes. The report lists running, failed and deployed as displayed states.

Script-fed progress
A progress API lets scripts and other mods write JSON files to a progress folder. The reported fields include a label, percentage, short text, time-to-live and running, ok or error state. The card watches the 20 most recently written files and refreshes every second; rows disappear when their TTL expires. Shell and Python helpers are included. DevOps.com says files are limited to 64 KB and text fields are stripped of control characters, bidirectional marks and zero-width characters.
Compatibility and practical caveats
DevOps.com reports these requirements and exclusions:
Rank #3
- Claude Code 2.1.287 or later.
- A terminal at least 70 columns wide.
- Not compatible with the Claude Code desktop app, according to the report.
- The newer mod API is early access and may change across releases.
Version requirements and mod compatibility can change, so confirm the project’s current release information before relying on these details. The report says operation is local and GitHub lookups use the user’s own GitHub CLI credentials; that description is not a security audit or independent confirmation of data handling.
Does Statuspane provide enterprise AI governance?
No. A developer-facing card can help one person notice usage, limits, cost and pipeline outcomes during a session. That is different from collecting those measures centrally across an organization, retaining auditable records, and applying governance controls.
Rank #4
DevOps.com quotes Mitch Ashley of The Futurum Group: “Statuspane gives one developer a gauge, which is useful and stops short of governance,” He frames the broader test as whether spend, limits and pipeline outcomes can be collected centrally and audited per agent session. Statuspane, as described, does not establish that capability.

The cited report does not provide a numerical adoption measure, independent evidence of productivity impact, or a verification of usage accuracy, reliability or security. It also does not establish the project’s current maintenance status or release history. Treat its compatibility and feature details as the report’s account, not as independently validated guarantees.
