Google’s Android CLI provides a shared Android-specific tool layer for all three; the practical differences are their work surfaces and your existing workflow. Choose the one that fits how you want to work, then verify its output with Android builds, tests, and Android Studio’s debugging and profiling tools.
How the three agents connect to Android development
Google announced Android CLI 1.0 stable on May 19, 2026, and named Claude Code, Codex, and Antigravity as compatible agents. The CLI provides programmatic tools for core Android development tasks and works with Android Knowledge Base and skills. Google also says its Journeys tools and skills let agents create and run natural-language app journeys. Google’s Android CLI announcement describes the shared integration.
That common tool layer does not make the agents interchangeable. Their interfaces and broader workflows differ, and the cited vendor materials do not establish that any one produces better Android code or finishes tasks faster.
What differs between Claude Code, Codex, and Antigravity?
| Tool | Documented work surface | Android-specific context |
|---|---|---|
| Claude Code | Development-machine CLI, with interactive and print modes, permission settings, MCP, and session continuation documented by Anthropic. | Google lists Claude Code as a third-party agent compatible with Android CLI. The cited sources do not describe Claude Code as a native Android IDE. |
| Codex | CLI, IDE, and cloud workflows, according to OpenAI’s overview. | Google lists Codex as compatible with Android CLI. The cited sources do not demonstrate a distinct Android capability unavailable to the other agents. |
| Antigravity | Google describes it as an agentic development environment. | Google says Antigravity 2.0 supports Android CLI. Android Studio’s separately announced BYOA preview also names Antigravity. |

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Which one should you choose?
- Choose Claude Code if you prefer a terminal-centered workflow on your development machine and want the documented CLI modes and permission settings. Anthropic documents setup for macOS, Ubuntu/Debian, and Windows through WSL or Git for Windows. See its setup requirements.
- Choose Codex if you want to work across CLI, IDE, or cloud workflows and already use that environment. OpenAI’s cited overview describes those surfaces, while Google’s Android CLI supplies the Android-specific connection.
- Choose Antigravity if Google’s agentic development environment suits your work. For the Android CLI integration, be precise about the documented version: Google identifies Antigravity 2.0.
- Prefer working inside Android Studio? Google announced preview “Bring Your Own Agent” support in Android Studio Rabbit 2 on September 24, 2026, naming Claude Agent, Codex, and Antigravity. This is a preview announcement, not evidence of broad stable availability. Check the current Android Studio release information before relying on it.
For Android work, the more consequential workflow choice may be whether to use Android CLI and Android Studio alongside your preferred agent. Google says Android CLI can bridge agents to Android Studio through the studio command. Android Studio remains the environment Google points to for deeper visual editing, debugging, testing, and profiling. These details can change between releases; check the Android developer tools announcement and June productivity update for the relevant release context.
Use the agent for the task loop, not as proof the app works
Google describes Android Studio’s own agent as assisting with architecture and design planning, code writing, unit testing, and bug fixing. Android CLI adds Android-focused tools and natural-language Journeys. Those capabilities can support a development loop, but an agent’s report that it changed code or ran a task is not proof that the app builds or behaves correctly.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
- Use your chosen agent to plan and make a focused code change, with Android CLI available for Android-specific tasks.
- Run the project’s build and tests, including relevant unit tests. Review failures rather than treating generated code as complete.
- Run the app and inspect the affected flow in an emulator or device. Use Android Studio’s debugging and profiling tools when you need to diagnose behavior or performance.
- For a user journey, validate the actual screens and outcomes; natural-language Journeys can help exercise flows but do not replace reviewing the app’s behavior.
What the available evidence does—and does not—show
Google’s April 16, 2026 post is titled “Build Android apps 3x faster using any agent.” That is Google’s claim about using agents, not a controlled comparison of Claude Code, Codex, and Antigravity. The official materials cited here provide no head-to-head benchmark establishing a speed or quality winner. See Google’s post for its framing.
The cited Claude Code documentation describes some permission and setup controls, but the sources do not provide an equivalent, detailed comparison of permissions, governance, or enterprise controls across all three. If those requirements matter, compare the current product documentation and your organization’s policies directly rather than inferring parity from Android CLI compatibility.
