What you need before starting
This workflow uses a Mac with Xcode and Claude Code. Anthropic’s setup guide describes installing Claude Code, authenticating, moving into the project directory, and launching it there; macOS is listed as supported. Xcode is Apple’s integrated development environment for building, testing, optimizing, and submitting apps for Apple platforms. You can use Claude Code with project files without connecting it to Xcode’s tools; the MCP bridge is an additional integration when Xcode capabilities are useful.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Allow external access: In Xcode, open Intelligence settings and enable “Allow external agents to use Xcode tools.”
- Add the MCP connection: In a terminal, run Apple’s example command:
claude mcp add --transport stdio xcode -- xcrun mcpbridge. - Open the project: Open the relevant project in Xcode, then start or continue Claude Code from the project directory and give it a task.
Xcode alerts you when an external agent connects and when it is active. Apple documents this connection as a way for an external agent to use Xcode tools; it does not make the bridge a requirement for every code edit or guarantee that generated changes are correct. See Apple’s guidance on running apps in Simulator or on a device.
Optional project guidance files such as AGENTS.md or CLAUDE.md can capture conventions and boundaries for an agent. They are context aids, not prerequisites for the Xcode connection.

Start with project context and a bounded outcome
Before asking for a code change, have Claude Code inspect the existing project structure and the files related to the task. This gives you a chance to correct its understanding before implementation begins.

- Ask for a short plan or file map first if the project area is unfamiliar.
- Keep the requested change narrow enough that you can review its effects.
- State relevant constraints, such as preserving existing patterns or avoiding unrelated files.
- Ask for a summary of changed files and any assumptions once the edit is complete.
Use a small implementation and review loop
A reliable working rhythm is to handle one feature at a time and check the result before expanding the task. This is a practical way to keep changes understandable, not a measured productivity claim or an Apple-mandated process.
- Ask Claude Code to inspect the relevant files and propose a plan.
- Agree on a bounded change, then ask it to implement that change.
- Inspect the diff in your preferred editor or Xcode. Check that the edits match the requested scope and fit the project’s existing design.
- Build the app in Xcode and address compiler errors or test failures. Treat a successful build as evidence that the project compiles, not proof that the user-facing behavior is correct.
- Run the changed flow, inspect its behavior, and request a focused correction if needed.
- Move to the next feature only after reviewing the current change.
Claude Code can assist with project work, but developer review remains part of the loop. Neither an MCP connection nor a build result establishes that the app is correct in every scenario.

Iterate in Simulator, then check hardware-dependent behavior on a device
Xcode can run an app in Simulator or on a physical device. Simulator is useful for rapid iteration and inspecting layouts across available simulated devices. It cannot stand in for every aspect of real hardware: Apple cautions that simulators “don’t replicate the performance or features of a physical device.”
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors| Where to run | Best use | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| Simulator | Frequent iteration on screens, layout, and app flows across available simulated device configurations. | Does not reproduce all physical-device features or performance. |
| Physical device | Validating behavior that depends on hardware, device performance, or capabilities unavailable in Simulator. | Requires testing on the relevant hardware; a simulator result alone is not sufficient for those checks. |
Use Simulator for the broad iteration loop, then run relevant scenarios on a physical device when the feature depends on real hardware or when performance matters. Apple notes that some frameworks expose APIs developers can use to detect when a capability is unavailable in Simulator. Consult the framework documentation for the specific feature rather than assuming a simulated result covers it.

Choose the right amount of Xcode integration
There are two useful modes. With project-file context alone, Claude Code can help edit code without the Xcode MCP connection. When you want the agent to access Xcode tools, use Apple’s documented bridge. Choose based on the work at hand; connecting MCP is not a substitute for inspecting changes, building, or testing.
