Some other Android browsers offer extension support through their own features, but the title’s unnamed “this browser” cannot be identified from the available information. One often-mentioned option, Kiwi Browser, is archived and no longer maintained after January 2025, so it should not be treated as a secure, current default.
Can you install Chrome extensions on Android?
No. Google’s Chrome Web Store Help says extensions and themes can only be used on computers. It also explicitly rules out installing them on a mobile device even when the store is viewed in desktop mode. Changing the site’s display therefore does not add extension support to Chrome for Android.

Why do some Android browsers run extensions?
Extension support is a capability of the browser that implements it. A third-party Android browser may provide an extension catalog or installation method of its own; that does not mean Chrome for Android has gained support, or that every Chrome desktop extension will work on a phone.
The UK Competition and Markets Authority notes that third-party Android browsers, including Firefox and Edge, can offer extensions. That establishes that alternatives exist, not that their catalogs or compatibility match Chrome on desktop. Firefox for Android 121.0 release notes from December 2023, cited in the report, described support expanding by “over 400” extensions. That is a historical statement about the expansion at that time, not a current catalog total.

What about Kiwi Browser?
Kiwi Browser was known for supporting many desktop Chrome extensions, but its project repository says it is archived and “will no longer be maintained after January 2025.” An unmaintained browser is not a sound default for sensitive browsing: it may not receive fixes for newly discovered security flaws or keep pace with changes to websites and Android.
The repository describes a migration route involving Microsoft Edge Canary, Developer Options, and installing an extension by ID. This is a developer-oriented path, not proof that all Chrome Web Store extensions work in Edge or that Canary is the right everyday choice. The repository also names Vivaldi and Firefox as alternatives to explore, but does not establish that they have identical Chrome Web Store compatibility.

How to choose an Android browser for a particular extension
Before switching browsers, check the exact extension and the current state of the browser rather than relying on a general claim that it “supports Chrome extensions.”
- Confirm the browser’s current extension feature. Check the browser maker’s current documentation or listing for Android-specific support and its available installation route.
- Look up the extension itself. Verify that the desired extension is available through that browser’s supported catalog or installation method. Desktop availability alone is not enough.
- Check whether it works on mobile. An extension may depend on desktop-only controls, APIs, or page behavior. Test the task you need it for, and consider whether it handles passwords, browsing data, or other sensitive information.
- Check maintenance and updates. Prefer a browser that is actively maintained and updated. Kiwi’s archived status is a reason not to assume its historical compatibility makes it a safe current recommendation.
What is established—and what is not
Google’s guidance settles the central question: Chrome for Android does not install Chrome Web Store extensions, including in desktop mode. Government reporting confirms that some other Android browsers offer extensions, but the available evidence does not provide a current, like-for-like compatibility list for Edge Canary, Vivaldi, and Firefox. Nor does it identify which specific browser the phrase “this browser” refers to. Treat claims about a particular alternative as product- and extension-specific, and verify them with current vendor information.
