Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →For repeatable full-page screenshots, use Puppeteer: set fullPage: true in page.screenshot(). Chrome Headless’s --screenshot command is handy for a quick viewport capture, but its documented CLI controls do not offer an equivalent full-page option. This is a workflow recommendation based on the documented controls, not a claim that one is faster.
How the two approaches differ
| Question | Puppeteer | Chrome Headless CLI |
|---|---|---|
| Full-page capture | Explicit fullPage: true option in the screenshot API. |
The CLI documents --screenshot and viewport sizing, but not a comparable full-page option. |
| Best fit | Automated workflows that need navigation, page interaction, element capture or screenshot options. | Simple command-line viewport captures. |
| Readiness control | Wait for a navigation condition, then add page-specific readiness checks where needed. | --timeout sets a maximum wait; it does not establish that dynamic content is ready. |
| Display sizing | Configure the page viewport through browser automation and screenshot options. | --window-size and Headless virtual-screen settings configure display dimensions. |
Puppeteer is a JavaScript library for automating Chrome and Firefox, according to Chrome for Developers. Its screenshot guide demonstrates navigating before capture, while the API exposes controls for full-page capture, clipping, output type, and background transparency. See the Puppeteer screenshot guide and ScreenshotOptions reference.

Capture a full page with Puppeteer
Install Puppeteer in a Node.js project, save this as screenshot.js, and run it with node screenshot.js. Replace the URL as needed.
const puppeteer = require('puppeteer');
(async () => {
const browser = await puppeteer.launch();
try {
const page = await browser.newPage();
await page.setViewport({ width: 1440, height: 900 });
await page.goto('https://example.com', { waitUntil: 'networkidle2' });
await page.screenshot({ path: 'page.png', fullPage: true });
} finally {
await browser.close();
}
})();
fullPage is optional and defaults to false; setting it to true requests a screenshot of the full page. The navigation condition shown is an example, not a guarantee that every site’s delayed or user-triggered content has finished loading. Wait for a meaningful selector or application-specific condition when necessary. The current API reference displayed Puppeteer version 25.12.0 when accessed on October 3, 2026.

Useful screenshot options
pathwrites the image to a file;typeselects an output format such as PNG or JPEG.clipcaptures a defined region when you need a crop instead of the entire document.omitBackgroundcan make the page background transparent where supported by the chosen output.captureBeyondViewportcontrols capture beyond the viewport; its documented default depends on whether a clip is supplied. Check the API reference for the options and defaults in your installed version.- For one component rather than a whole document, use an element handle’s
screenshot()method, as shown in the screenshots guide.
Take a quick viewport screenshot with Chrome Headless
Use Chrome’s command-line screenshot flag for a straightforward capture. Set the viewport dimensions explicitly and provide a URL:
chrome --headless --window-size=1440,900 --screenshot=page.png https://example.com
The exact executable name can vary by operating system and installation. Consult the Chrome Headless command-line reference for the flags. Its --timeout option sets the maximum time to wait before capture, even if the page is still loading; it is not a signal that asynchronous content is complete.

Keep full-page capture, viewport, and display settings distinct
A full-page screenshot asks the capture mechanism to include the document beyond the visible viewport. Viewport dimensions determine the page’s layout width and height, which can affect responsive design and line wrapping. Headless virtual-screen settings configure the simulated display. These settings are related but are not interchangeable: changing the virtual screen does not itself enable Puppeteer’s fullPage behavior.
Chrome documents additional Headless screen configuration in its virtual screens guide. For repeatable results, record the browser and automation-library versions, Headless mode, viewport dimensions, device/display settings, and readiness condition alongside the output.

Choose the right Headless mode
Puppeteer documents regular Headless Chrome and chrome-headless-shell as distinct modes. The shell does not fully match regular Chrome, though it may be more performant for automation that does not need the complete Chrome feature set. That is not evidence of a universal speed advantage for screenshot jobs. Validate captures in the same mode you intend to use in production; see the Puppeteer Headless modes guide.
Troubleshoot missing or inconsistent content
- The image shows only the viewport: Confirm you are using Puppeteer and set
fullPage: true. The documented Chrome CLI screenshot flow does not provide the same full-page API control. - Images or page sections are missing: The page may still be loading deferred content. Wait for a relevant selector or application-specific readiness condition before capture; a maximum timeout alone does not confirm readiness.
- The layout differs from a normal browser: Check the viewport width, screen configuration, browser version, and Headless mode. Regular Headless and
chrome-headless-shellare not fully equivalent. - A clipped capture is unexpectedly small: Review the clip dimensions and the
captureBeyondViewportsetting against the installed Puppeteer version’s API reference. - The CLI captures too early: Increase the maximum wait if appropriate, but also verify page readiness independently;
--timeoutis a ceiling, not a dynamic-content completion test.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. A single GET request can return a screenshot or PDF, and its clean-shot steps can accept consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, with the outcome identified in response headers. AI agents can use its MCP tools to take screenshots, get page information, and capture PDFs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Puppeteer take a full-page screenshot by default?
No. Its fullPage option defaults to false; set it to true for a full-page capture.
Is Chrome Headless faster than Puppeteer?
The comparison is not like-for-like: Puppeteer is an automation library that can drive Chrome, while Chrome Headless is a browser mode and CLI workflow. The cited documentation does not establish a general speed winner.
