First check whether the Devanagari text appears on the live page. If it is missing there too, investigate the font Chrome actually rendered. If it appears on the page but not in the screenshot, wait for the page and its fonts to load, then capture again using Chrome DevTools’ Capture a full size screenshot command. For automated captures, check that the method captures beyond the viewport.
There is no single confirmed cause for every case: font selection, the operating system, Chrome build, capture method, and timing can all matter.

1. Check whether the live page is missing the text
Before changing screenshot settings, compare the rendered page with the image. If Devanagari is absent, blank, or displayed with missing glyphs on the page itself, start with font rendering. If the page is correct and only the screenshot is wrong, focus next on capture timing and whether the capture includes the full page.

- Text visible on the page, missing in the image: let content and fonts finish loading, capture again, and check the capture method and its beyond-viewport behavior.
These checks narrow down the likely area; they do not prove a cause without the page, system, Chrome version, and capture method.

- phonetic and INSCRIPT keyboard layouts are supported for Devanagari script
- fast switching between Devanagari and QWERTY keyboards
- easy access to extended character fields for all keyboards
2. Inspect the font Chrome rendered
- Open the page in Chrome and open DevTools.
- Select the affected text in the page or inspect its element in the Elements panel.
- Check the computed style and rendered-font information to see which font family Chrome actually used.
- Confirm that the selected font includes Devanagari glyphs. A CSS font-family declaration alone does not show whether the chosen font can render the characters.
If the page uses @font-face with a local() source, DevTools can help distinguish the local font from the web-hosted font. Open the Rendering panel, enable Disable local fonts, and reload to compare behavior. This is a diagnostic for developers, not a general-purpose fix for every page.
3. Consider operating system and Chrome version
Font fallback can vary by platform and installation. A Chromium source change committed on March 4, 2026, says that Chromium previously had no configured Devanagari default fonts and fell back to generic system font resolution. That change records these mappings:
| Platform | Standard and sans-serif | Serif | Fixed-width |
|---|---|---|---|
| Windows | Nirmala UI | Nirmala UI | Consolas |
| macOS | ITF Devanagari (sans-serif) | Devanagari MT | Menlo |
| Linux | Noto Sans Devanagari | Noto Serif Devanagari | Noto Sans Mono |
| ChromeOS | Noto Sans Devanagari | Noto Serif Devanagari | Noto Sans Mono |
These are mappings recorded in that Chromium change, not a guarantee that every Chrome version, custom build, Linux distribution, or individual installation has those fonts installed or uses them. Compare the system, Chrome build, and actual rendered font rather than assuming a particular family is present. Read the Chromium change and its platform mappings.
4. Capture the full page using the right method
Chrome DevTools
For a manual full-page capture, open the device toolbar’s More options menu and choose Capture a full size screenshot. Do not confuse it with Capture screenshot, which captures the current viewport. Wait for the page’s visible content and fonts to load before taking the image. Chrome DevTools documents both screenshot options.
Headless Chrome
The documented headless --screenshot command creates a screenshot file, but the basic command alone should not be assumed to capture an arbitrarily long page. Full-page capture involves additional steps. Check the specific headless workflow you use and verify the resulting image includes content below the viewport. See Chrome’s headless documentation.
Chrome DevTools Protocol and automation
If your automation calls the DevTools Protocol method Page.captureScreenshot, inspect its options and the viewport used for the capture. The protocol reference says captureBeyondViewport defaults to false; a default capture may therefore omit content beyond the viewport. Set capture behavior deliberately for your use case and inspect the output. See the Page.captureScreenshot protocol reference.

5. If you capture pages with code
For your existing browser automation, check these specific items:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Does the script wait until the page content and fonts are ready before capturing?
- Is it capturing only the viewport, or is beyond-viewport capture enabled where needed?
- Does it use the same Chrome build and operating system as your manual test?
- Does the screenshot contain the affected section when captured separately or after a longer wait?
If the live page itself lacks the text, changing full-page screenshot settings is unlikely to solve the underlying font-rendering issue. Return to the rendered-font inspection instead.

ScreenshotNeo provides a screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request can return a screenshot or PDF. For example, this cURL request captures a page as WebP; see the API documentation for options and response details:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie and consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server offers take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents and MCP clients. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.

Why does the DevTools full-size screenshot differ from the regular screenshot?
The regular Capture screenshot option captures the current viewport; Capture a full size screenshot is the DevTools option for the whole page.
Does the Chromium Devanagari font mapping guarantee my computer has those fonts?
No. The mappings are from a Chromium source change and do not guarantee availability or use on every Chrome version, custom build, distribution, or installation.
