On desktop Chrome, press Ctrl+Shift+T on Windows or Command+Shift+T on Mac to try reopening tabs from before the crash. If that does not bring them back, check Recently closed in History and make sure you are in the right Chrome profile. Recovery is not guaranteed: Google documents ways to reopen pages, but does not promise that every lost crash session can be restored.
1. Reopen tabs with Chrome’s shortcut
Use the shortcut for your computer: Ctrl+Shift+T on Windows or Command+Shift+T on Mac. Google lists these shortcuts in its Chrome crash help for reopening tabs that were open before.

If the first press restores only one tab or window, you can try the shortcut again. Repeated use is suggested in Google Help Community advice, rather than guaranteed by Google’s official instructions.
2. Look in History for recently closed pages
Open Chrome’s History and look for recently closed tabs or windows. Reopen the specific pages you need rather than assuming History can reconstruct a complete crash session. This is a troubleshooting suggestion from Google Help Community responders, not a guaranteed session archive.

3. Check that Chrome is using the right profile
Click Chrome’s profile control and confirm that the active profile is the one you used before the crash. Different profiles have separate browsing contexts, so tabs may appear to be missing if Chrome opened another profile. This is a low-risk check suggested in Google Help Community guidance, not an official recovery guarantee.
4. Check for tabs from other devices
If you were signed in and sync was enabled, look in Chrome History for tabs from your other devices. Whether they appear depends on your sign-in and sync state. Google Help Community advice mentions this check, but it does not establish that synced tabs can recover a crashed local session.

5. Set Chrome to reopen pages next time
Desktop Chrome
- Open Chrome’s menu and choose Settings.
- Select On startup.
- Choose Continue where you left off.
Google says this setting reopens the same pages that were open when Chrome was closed. It applies to future launches; it does not repair session data that has already disappeared. See Google’s startup settings instructions.

Chromebook
Chromebook uses a separate ChromeOS restore flow rather than the desktop menu path. In Chromebook startup settings, Google documents three choices: Ask every time, Always restore, and Off. After restarting and signing in, choose to open the previous session when prompted, or select Always restore for automatic restoration. Google’s Chromebook startup settings help covers these options.

If restoring the session makes Chrome crash again
A very large group of tabs may be difficult to reopen all at once. A Google Help Community response recommends checking History and reopening selected pages instead of immediately restoring everything. Google’s official crash troubleshooting guidance also identifies memory pressure as a possible factor and suggests closing tabs, apps, downloads, and extensions you do not need.

If the shortcut and History do not show the pages, Google’s cited guidance does not establish another guaranteed way to recover the missing session. It also does not establish that editing local profile or session files will restore it, so avoid changing those files based on community snippets alone. The desktop keyboard shortcuts above are not mobile instructions; the cited sources do not establish a consistent Android or iOS recovery flow.
