Chromatic lists its plans in US dollars, not as India-specific rupee prices: Free is $0 per month, Starter is $179 per month, Pro is $399 per month, and Enterprise has custom pricing. The Free plan includes 5,000 billed snapshots monthly; Starter includes 35,000 and Pro 85,000. Chromatic’s reviewed pricing information does not establish an INR price or a tax-inclusive total for an Indian freelancer, so treat those figures as the official listed prices—not a guaranteed Indian invoice amount.

What an Indian freelancer may actually pay
The official plan prices are not an India-specific quote. The reviewed official pages do not provide an INR price or an exchange rate, and they do not settle the exact tax treatment for an Indian customer. Your payment method and applicable taxes may affect the final amount. Chromatic’s general terms say fees are exclusive of government taxes and customers are responsible for applicable taxes, but that is not India-specific tax advice. Confirm the amount and tax details shown at checkout or on your invoice.
#1 Best Overall
Chromatic says self-serve subscriptions currently support monthly payment only; annual payment is an Enterprise consideration. The monthly plan price therefore should not be read as an India-specific annual offer or a verified annual self-serve option. See Chromatic’s billing documentation for current billing terms.
How snapshot usage affects the bill
Chromatic calculates snapshot usage at the account level across projects, and billing is monthly based on the subscription date. A project’s raw build count alone is not enough to estimate the bill: usage can depend on stories or tests, builds, browsers, modes, and how many stories are affected by code changes.
- A captured snapshot counts as 1 billed snapshot.
- A copied TurboSnap snapshot counts as 0.2 billed snapshots.
- A bypassed snapshot counts as 0 billed snapshots.
- Visual and accessibility tests incur billed snapshots; interaction tests do not.
These weights are important when estimating whether a plan’s allowance will cover your work. Chromatic’s billing documentation points users to a snapshot calculator; use the current calculator and plan details with your own project assumptions rather than treating a rough story count as a bill forecast. See Chromatic’s TurboSnap introduction for its snapshot accounting explanation.
What happens when you reach the limit
On Free, testing and review pause after the 5,000-snapshot monthly allowance is used. They resume at the reset unless you upgrade. On paid plans, testing continues beyond the included allowance and additional billed snapshots are charged. The pricing page specifies the Starter rate of $0.008 per extra billed snapshot; do not assume that rate applies to Pro or another plan unless Chromatic confirms it for your account.
Rank #3
Because Free pauses rather than simply continuing to accumulate paid usage, it can be a sensible way to begin if Chrome coverage is enough and the monthly cap is workable. The trade-off is interrupted review and testing if your account exhausts the allowance before the reset.
Which plan fits a freelance developer?
Choose Free when Chrome is enough and the cap is manageable
Free is the lowest-cost starting point if your expected usage fits within 5,000 billed snapshots a month, Chrome-only testing meets your client or project needs, and a pause after reaching the limit is acceptable. Track account-wide use across all projects, not just one repository.
Consider Starter when you need cross-browser testing
Starter is the published self-serve tier that adds Safari, Firefox, and Edge to Chrome. Compare its 35,000 included snapshots with your estimated usage and account for the listed $0.008 charge for each additional billed snapshot. If your usage is uncertain, estimate the likely overage before choosing it.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Consider Pro when the allowance or custom domain matters
Pro raises the listed allowance to 85,000 billed snapshots and adds a custom domain. The reviewed page does not state a Pro overage price, so ask Chromatic or verify the current account terms if you expect to exceed the included amount.
Best Value
Ask about Enterprise only for needs the listed plans do not cover
Enterprise is custom priced and is the plan whose page lists unlimited snapshots and additional organization-oriented features. A freelancer should compare those controls with actual project requirements rather than assume custom pricing is cheaper at high volume.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.A practical way to estimate your monthly plan
- List the stories or tests that Chromatic will capture, then estimate how many builds you expect in a typical month.
- Account for browser coverage and modes: additional testing dimensions can change usage.
- Estimate how often changes affect stories and whether TurboSnap copied or bypassed snapshots reduce billed usage for your workflow.
- Use Chromatic’s current snapshot calculator and compare the estimate with each plan’s allowance. Check the account-level total across projects.
- For Starter, include the published $0.008 per additional billed snapshot in your estimate. For other paid tiers, confirm any overage terms rather than extrapolating Starter’s rate.
- At checkout, verify the amount, currency, and applicable taxes for your Indian account before committing.
ScreenshotNeo for a separate screenshot-API need
Chromatic is for visual UI testing and review; ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server, not a replacement for Chromatic’s snapshot-based visual testing workflow. If you also need programmatic website screenshots, ScreenshotNeo is an alternative to try first: it removes cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture, bills only clean shots, and offers an MCP server for AI agents.
ScreenshotNeo has 1,000 screenshots per month on its free plan with no card required; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots. Every feature is on every plan. Sign up for ScreenshotNeo free.
