To host Chosen’s Modded Adventure, use the official CMA Server Files 0.9.2 download for Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge. Extract that archive into its own server folder, launch the included start file, complete the first-run prompts, and give every player the matching Chosen’s Modded Adventure 0.9.2 Forge profile. Do not assemble the server by guessing at individual mods unless the official server pack is unavailable.
Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
This guide covers the complete setup, client matching, access configuration, troubleshooting, backups, updates, and the choice between running the server yourself and using managed hosting.

What you need before starting
Chosen’s Modded Adventure is a Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.20.1. The authoritative project listing identifies Chosen’s Modded Adventure 0.9.2 as the latest listed release, published May 3, 2024. Its Files page separately lists a server distribution called CMA Server Files 0.9.2. Those labels are the version anchors for this installation.
- A computer or hosted Minecraft instance on which you can create a dedicated server folder and run the supplied launch files.
- The CMA Server Files 0.9.2 archive from the modpack’s Files page.
- A client launcher that can install Chosen’s Modded Adventure 0.9.2 for Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge.
- Network access for the players who will connect, plus permission to allow the server process through the host’s firewall.
- A backup location for the original archive and the generated world.
The pack pages do not state a guaranteed Java release, minimum RAM, CPU requirement, maximum player count, or benchmark result. Check the launch scripts, included documentation, and the software installed on the actual machine before choosing Java or memory settings. Treat any sizing estimate found elsewhere as a workload-dependent starting point, not as an official requirement.

Pin the exact build
Do this before downloading anything. Modded Minecraft compatibility depends on the game version, mod loader, and modpack release together; a server and client can both be described as “1.20” and still be incompatible if their Forge builds, pack releases, or files differ.
- Open the official Chosen’s Modded Adventure project listing.
- Record Chosen’s Modded Adventure 0.9.2, Minecraft 1.20.1, and Forge.
- Open the Files area and locate the server-pack category for Minecraft 1.20.
- Confirm that the download is named CMA Server Files 0.9.2, not a client profile or a different historical release.
Keep this record with the server’s backups. The project has multiple historical 1.20.1 Forge releases, so a later file download can silently put you on a different build unless you check the version name.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsDownload the CMA server pack
The server archive is the preferred installation route because it is assembled for server use. CurseForge’s multiplayer guidance recommends a modpack’s server pack when one is provided. It normally contains the configuration, libraries, mods, and launch material needed to reproduce the intended server distribution.
- In the project’s Files area, choose CMA Server Files 0.9.2 under the Minecraft 1.20 Server Packs listing.
- Save the archive somewhere you can retain as an immutable original, such as an archive or backup directory.
- Make a second working copy for extraction, or keep the original compressed file untouched so you can recreate a clean installation later.
If a future release does not list a server pack, do not automatically substitute the 0.9.2 files. Check the new release’s instructions first. CurseForge identifies its official installer for the relevant modloader as a fallback when a server pack is not available, but the exact files and loader still have to match the selected pack release.
Extract it into a clean server folder
Create a dedicated directory used only by this server. A separate folder prevents another modpack, an old world, or unrelated Java files from contaminating the installation and makes backup and rollback procedures understandable.
- Create a folder with a clear name, such as one identifying both the pack and release.
- Extract the contents of the CMA Server Files 0.9.2 archive directly into that folder.
- Check that the files are not hidden one level deeper inside an extra directory created by the archive utility. The included configuration, libraries, mods, and launch files should be in the server’s working tree.
- Do not delete or replace files merely because their names are unfamiliar. The server pack is a coordinated distribution.
- Copy the untouched archive to a backup location and note the extraction date.
Keeping the original layout matters. Moving only the visible mods folder or copying selected configuration files can leave the launch process without required libraries or can produce a server that no longer matches the clients.

Run the first launch
Use the start file included in the extracted archive rather than publishing or inventing a universal command. The correct executable name, arguments, memory flags, and operating-system syntax are platform-specific and may change between server-pack builds.
- Open the server folder and identify the supplied start file for your operating system.
- Run that file from the server folder so relative paths resolve to the included libraries, configuration, and mods.
- Read the first-run output. The server software may create initial files and present an EULA prompt.
- Complete the EULA step only if you agree to Minecraft’s terms, using the method requested by the generated files.
- Allow the first run to finish generating its directories, then stop the server cleanly.
- Start it a second time with the same included launch file and watch for a normal ready state before attempting a player connection.
Do not copy a command from a different Forge release into this installation. If the start file refers to a Java executable that is missing, install the Java version indicated by the archive’s own instructions or launch script, then rerun it. The pack pages themselves do not establish a single Java version that is safe to claim for every environment.
Initial server configuration
Once the second launch has generated the normal configuration, stop the server before making broad changes. Edit only the settings you understand, and keep a copy of the generated files before a major change.
Identity and gameplay settings
- Choose the server name players will see.
- Set difficulty and world-generation options before creating the permanent world where possible.
- Decide whether the server should be public, private, or limited to an allowlist.
Operators and allowlist
Grant operator privileges only to accounts that administer the world. Use an allowlist for a private group rather than exposing an unrestricted server and relying on an obscure address. Test an ordinary player account so you know the permissions behave as intended.

Backups
Schedule copies of the world directory and retain more than one generation. A backup made while files are being written can be unusable, so follow the server software’s safe-save procedure or stop the server for a manual copy. Preserve the original 0.9.2 archive alongside a note describing which world and configuration it belongs to.
Memory and CPU settings
Inspect the supplied launch file before changing memory flags. There is no authoritative Chosen’s Modded Adventure figure for minimum RAM, recommended RAM, CPU model, player capacity, or performance. Allocate resources based on the actual machine, world size, view distance, number of players, and measured behavior. Giving Java more memory than the host can sustain can make performance worse by forcing system swapping or long garbage-collection pauses.

Install the matching client profile
Each player needs the client release that corresponds exactly to the server:
- Modpack: Chosen’s Modded Adventure 0.9.2
- Game: Minecraft 1.20.1
- Loader: Forge
Use a launcher that exposes the same project version. Do not let the launcher update the pack automatically after you have created the server unless you are deliberately planning a coordinated migration. A client with a newer or older release can have different mods, configuration, recipes, registries, or world behavior even when the Minecraft version remains 1.20.1.

If a player installed the pack manually, compare the complete profile with the official release rather than adding or removing one mod at a time. Let players connect safely
On the same local network
For a household or local test, have the player use the host computer’s local network address and the port shown by the server configuration. Both machines must be able to reach the host, and the operating system firewall must permit the Java server process.
Across the internet
Internet players need a reachable address and a forwarded or otherwise exposed server port. Configure the router and host firewall only as far as necessary, and avoid exposing administrative services. Give friends the public address and port, not a private address that works only inside your home network.
Before inviting everyone
- Join once from the host or a test client.
- Verify that the world loads without missing-mod errors.
- Test an ordinary player account and the allowlist.
- Confirm that a backup can be found and restored to a separate test folder.
If your internet connection uses carrier-grade NAT or blocks inbound connections, ordinary port forwarding may not work. In that case, use a network method supported by your provider or move the server to a managed host that supports the exact Forge pack.

Why this pack needs the extra setup
The official description calls Chosen’s Modded Adventure “an immersive fusion of exploration, magic from Ars Nouveau, and amazing tech from the Create Mod.” Those three pillars explain the attraction of running a dedicated server: players can explore together, build Ars Nouveau spell systems, and develop Create machinery in one persistent world. Building tools are also a major creative through-line, so the server is more than a short combat session; it is a shared construction and progression space.
The project page showed 918,124 total downloads when its page data was captured. That is a time-sensitive counter, not a permanent popularity ranking or a guarantee of current activity.
Troubleshoot by symptom
The server-pack download is missing
Return to the Files area and check the exact release and the Minecraft 1.20 Server Packs category. You may be viewing a client file, a historical release, or a future build that has not published a server distribution. Do not rename a client archive and assume it is server-ready. For a release with no server pack, consult the official installation guidance and use the relevant modloader installer only when its files and instructions match that release.
The start file closes immediately
- Run it from the extracted server folder, not from a shortcut with a different working directory.
- Read the final lines of the console output for a missing Java executable, permission error, or malformed path.
- Check the archive’s own launch script for the expected Java executable and arguments.
- Confirm that the extraction preserved libraries and launch files.
- Remove neither the EULA file nor generated configuration unless you are intentionally resetting the installation.
If the launch script expects a Java version that is not installed, correct that dependency first. Do not solve an unknown Java error by changing several memory flags at once.
The client reports a missing mod or wrong loader
Compare the client profile and server in this order: Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge loader, Chosen’s Modded Adventure 0.9.2, then the complete mod and configuration sets. CurseForge identifies game-version and modloader labels as compatibility indicators. A missing-mod message is usually evidence of a profile mismatch, not a reason to download a random replacement jar.
The client says the versions are incompatible
Check whether one side updated to another pack release. The 1.20.1 label alone is insufficient; Forge build and pack release also matter. Reinstall the exact 0.9.2 profile on the client or restore the server’s matching archive. Keep a written record of the versions instead of relying on launcher names that may be truncated.

The server starts but runs poorly
Measure the workload before changing settings: number of players, loaded chunks, view distance, automation, and recurring tick delays. Verify the Java executable, memory flags, and available CPU against the actual server archive and host. No cited pack page supplies a trustworthy RAM, CPU, or player-capacity number, so a fixed recommendation would be misleading. Reduce expensive world activity or move to a stronger host only after identifying the limiting resource.
Friends cannot reach the server
- Confirm the server is listening on the configured port and has completed startup.
- Check the host firewall rule for the Java server process.
- For internet play, verify router forwarding and that the address given to friends is the public address.
- Test from a different network; a local test can succeed even when inbound internet traffic is blocked.
- Check allowlist and operator-related configuration separately from network reachability.
Self-hosting or managed hosting?
Self-hosting gives you direct control over the server folder, launch files, configuration, world backups, and update timing. It also makes you responsible for the operating system, firewall, network exposure, storage, monitoring, and recovery. Managed hosting moves much of that administration into a control panel. A hosting provider has published guidance for installing this exact pack through a panel, showing that managed deployment is a practical category for people who do not want to maintain a local machine.
| Consideration | Self-hosted server | Managed server |
|---|---|---|
| Installation effort | Download, extract, launch, configure Java and networking yourself. | Upload or select the server pack through a provider’s panel, then follow its Forge workflow. |
| File and configuration control | Full access to launch scripts, configs, mods, logs, and world files. | Depends on panel permissions and whether the provider permits custom Forge files. |
| Backups | You design, schedule, verify, and store them. | May include automated backups, but retention and restore scope must be checked. |
| Network exposure | You handle router forwarding, firewall rules, address changes, and connectivity. | The provider supplies a reachable endpoint; panel and network limits still apply. |
| Cost | Uses your existing hardware and connection, with their electricity and maintenance costs. | Recurring pricing varies by provider, location, resources, storage, and backup policy; no current price is established here. |
| Latency | Can be excellent for nearby players if your upload capacity is adequate. | Depends on the provider’s region and each player’s distance from it. |
| Exact pack support | You can retain the 1.20.1 Forge server archive directly. | Verify that the current plan supports Forge and accepts CMA Server Files 0.9.2 before paying. |
| Rollback | You control archive copies and can restore a world to a separate folder. | Rollback tools vary; confirm whether world files and configurations can be downloaded. |
Choose self-hosting when you are comfortable administering a machine and need unrestricted file control. Choose managed hosting when uptime, remote access, and reduced server administration matter more than direct hardware control. In either case, verify the provider’s current Forge compatibility, resource limits, region, backup behavior, restore process, and terms before moving a live world.
Updating without destroying the world
Treat a pack update as a migration, not as an ordinary launcher update.
- Write down the current server release, Minecraft version, Forge version shown by the files, and world name.
- Stop the server cleanly.
- Make a verified backup of the world, configuration, and the original 0.9.2 server archive.
- Install the candidate release in a separate directory. Do not overwrite the working server first.
- Copy or restore a backup of the world into the test installation only after confirming the new pack’s instructions.
- Start the test server, inspect logs, and have a client on the exact new profile join.
- Check key areas, inventories, machines, Ars Nouveau systems, Create contraptions, and chunk borders.
- Record the old and new versions and the result of the test before scheduling the live change.
Keep the old server directory intact until the new world has been used successfully. If the test fails, stop it and return to the old directory and backup instead of trying to repair a live world under pressure.

- Pack pinned to Chosen’s Modded Adventure 0.9.2, Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge.
- Original CMA Server Files 0.9.2 archive retained.
- Archive extracted directly into a dedicated server folder.
- Included start file used for first and subsequent launches.
- EULA and first-run generation completed according to the server’s prompts.
- Server name, difficulty, world settings, operator list, and allowlist reviewed.
- World backups scheduled and a restore test completed.
- Every client installed with the same pack release, game version, and Forge loader.
- Firewall, router, address, and port tested from the network where players will connect.
- Java, memory, and CPU behavior verified from the actual archive and measured workload rather than guessed.
Bottom line
The reliable path is simple but strict: pin Chosen’s Modded Adventure 0.9.2 for Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge, download CMA Server Files 0.9.2, extract it cleanly, run its supplied start file, and make every player use the identical client profile. Most join failures come from version, loader, or file-set differences; most performance mistakes come from applying generic Java or RAM advice without checking the actual archive and workload. Back up the world before every pack change, and use managed hosting only after confirming it supports this exact Forge server pack.
