It can work with an existing preamplifier or be paired with Chord components to add analogue preamp and phono, DAC, or network-streaming functions. Whether it can drive your speakers well depends on more than its wattage: speaker impedance and sensitivity, room, listening distance, and desired volume all matter.
What the Chord Suzi Amp is
Chord’s manual identifies the Suzi as a power amplifier, not a complete all-in-one system. In a basic setup, it amplifies a signal from a preamp or another source with volume control. Its rated output is 30 W into 8 Ω, according to Chord’s 2024 manual. That specification describes output into the stated load; it does not by itself establish how loudly or easily the amp will drive a particular speaker.

The manual lists the standalone amplifier at 215 × 100 × 69 mm and 2,380 g. Chord advises checking its website for the latest specifications, so these are the figures published in the manual rather than a guarantee that every current listing will be identical. Chord Suzi manual (2024)
How to choose a Suzi configuration
The best arrangement depends on the sources and functions you already have. Chord’s manual describes these four core configurations:

These functions are specific to the listed combinations; the Suzi Amp on its own is still a power amp. See the manual’s configuration guidance for the connections and setup details.
Using an existing preamp safely
For an existing preamp, Chord directs users to the Suzi’s rear RCA inputs and says to select them with the AV/BP control. The source connected through this mode must have volume control: the RCA inputs are active when AV/BP is enabled, and Chord warns against using the mode with a source that cannot control volume. Confirm the source and Suzi volume are set appropriately before playback.

What the Suzi Pre adds
Adding Suzi Pre makes the setup an analogue pre/power system and supplies phono-stage functionality. Chord’s manual instructs users to remove Suzi Pre’s detachable headphone module before physically joining the units. The combination is useful if you need a preamp or phono stage; it is not a prerequisite when you already have an appropriate preamp or compatible source with volume control.

In a comparison of Hugo 2 connected directly to Suzi Amp and a system including Suzi Pre, U-Audio’s reviewer noted the added phono capability and more opportunity for gain and volume matching. Can the Chord Suzi drive your speakers?
The 30 W into 8 Ω rating is not enough to answer that on its own. Speaker impedance and sensitivity affect the load and the sound level an amplifier can produce; room size, listening distance, and the volume you want also influence the result. The manual does not set a universal speaker-sensitivity or room-size threshold for a suitable match.
- Check the speaker’s impedance and sensitivity specifications, then consider the room and distance from the listening position.
- Be realistic about listening level: a small near-field system and a large room played loudly pose different demands.
- Where possible, audition the Suzi with the intended speakers at a representative distance and volume. Avoid treating one favorable pairing as a guarantee for another.
U-Audio’s February 6, 2026 review reports favorable listening impressions, including perceived bass control and a natural presentation, with Acoustic Energy AE1 40th Anniversary, Dynaudio Contour 60, and Wilson Audio Alexia V speakers. The Alexia V evaluation was near-field at about one metre. These are the reviewer’s subjective observations under those conditions, not controlled measurements or a general assurance that the amp will suit every speaker or room. Read the U-Audio review.

Connections and headphone use
Chord’s manual lists 3.5 mm and 6.35 mm headphone connections, which can be used simultaneously for two listeners when a compatible source configuration is connected. It instructs users to set volume to zero before switching on or connecting or removing headphones and speakers. Follow the manual’s connection sequence for the specific arrangement you are using.

Who should consider the Suzi Amp?
- Consider it if you want a compact power amplifier and already have a preamp, or want to build around the documented Suzi Pre, Hugo 2, or Hugo 2/2go combinations.
- Check the system match first if your speakers, room, or preferred volume place high demands on an amplifier. The wattage rating and listening-review examples cannot settle that question for your setup.
- Look elsewhere or add a component if you need a standalone amplifier with source selection and volume control: the Suzi Amp is a power amp, so the appropriate preamp or compatible source is part of the system.
