The UPLAY+ subscription was renamed Ubisoft+ in a related change.
What happened to Uplay?
Uplay did not simply disappear: its services and PC distribution client became part of Ubisoft Connect. Ubisoft’s 2025 corporate registration document dates Uplay’s launch to 2012 and describes it as an online services platform for PC and consoles, as well as a PC distribution platform. Connect brought together two familiar parts of Ubisoft’s ecosystem: Uplay, the PC client, and Ubisoft Club, the rewards system. When did Ubisoft Connect launch?
Ubisoft announced Connect on October 21, 2020, and launched it on October 29, alongside the release of Watch Dogs: Legion. The company presented it as a refreshed and expanded service for PC, consoles, and streaming devices, with social activity, challenges, rewards, and cross-platform progression in selected games. Those launch-era feature descriptions do not mean every title supports every feature.

How did Connect differ from Uplay?

Ubisoft Vice President of Online Services Stephanie Perotti said in October 2020 that the goal was “a more consistent experience across multiple platforms” and bringing players together “across multiple screens and devices.” The wider scope was an evolution of Ubisoft’s services, not a guarantee that every game would share saves or progression.
What does Ubisoft Connect do now?

Cloud saves are supported only in some games
Ubisoft says cloud-save synchronization is available for supported titles and enabled by default for those games. Players can turn it off in the PC client settings. What happened to UPLAY+?
Ubisoft renamed UPLAY+ to Ubisoft+ on October 27, 2020, aligning the subscription’s branding with the broader Connect ecosystem. Ubisoft’s announcement discussed a multi-platform beta involving Amazon Luna and Stadia at the time. What Ubisoft said about Connect’s scale
In July 2021, Ubisoft described Connect as the result of a decade of work on its Online Services Platform and said more than 1,000 client applications used that underlying platform at the time. That count is a historical figure from 2021, not a current total. In 2020, Ubisoft also said more than 1,000 legacy Ubisoft Club rewards would be unlocked for free for all players to mark Connect’s launch. Ubisoft corporate materials
