There is no documented, general-purpose range of “Microsemi cable connectors” to rank. The right cable or adapter depends on the exact Microsemi-related board and the function of its port: Ethernet data, PoE input, pass-through, or DC power. Check the board guide before buying; a connector that fits physically may still be electrically wrong.
What “Microsemi cable connector” means
Microsemi became part of Microchip when the acquisition was completed on May 29, 2018. Microchip describes Microsemi’s portfolio in terms of semiconductor and system solutions, including Power over Ethernet (PoE) integrated circuits and midspans—not a broad catalog of standalone cables or cable connectors. Microchip’s Microsemi acquisition overview establishes the corporate context, but not a universal connector product line.

For a practical buying decision, identify the equipment model and the purpose of the connection first. A board’s connector is an interface; that does not mean the cable or adapter is a Microsemi-branded product.

Microsemi evaluation-board guides show why the model number matters. The PD70211EVB51F-12 and PD70211EVB72FW-12 document Ethernet and power connections, but their interfaces and roles are not interchangeable by assumption. Consult the PD70211EVB51F-12 documentation or the PD70211EVB72FW-12 documentation for the relevant board.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Board | Documented interface | Documented role | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| PD70211EVB51F-12 | RJ45 J1 and J4; standard barrel jack J2 | J1 is the PSE data-and-power input; J4 is data pass-through output; J2 accepts a 48 V wall adapter. | Use the guide to confirm the intended port, cable or adapter requirements, and electrical details before connecting equipment. |
| PD70211EVB72FW-12 | RJ45 input and pass-through ports; 48 V wall-adapter barrel jack; screw-terminal converter output | Input and pass-through serve Ethernet/PoE connections; the guide also documents a converter output at screw terminals. | Check the board-specific guide for the exact connector role and output details; do not infer compatibility from another variant. |
The cited documentation identifies these interfaces, but it does not establish a universal cable specification for all Microsemi hardware. In particular, the 48 V figure describes the documented wall-adapter input on these board variants; it is not a recommendation to use any adapter with a matching barrel plug.
How to choose a cable or adapter safely
- Find the exact model. Read the board label and locate its user guide. Do not assume a connector arrangement from the Microsemi name alone.
- Match the port to the job. On the cited PD70211EVB51F-12, J1 is the PSE data-and-power input and J4 is data pass-through. Treat each port according to its documented role, not merely its RJ45 shape.
- For Ethernet, confirm the board calls for RJ45. “RJ45 Ethernet cable” is a reasonable generic search phrase only when the guide specifies an RJ45 cable connection. The evidence does not identify a particular cable listing or establish a universal cable category or construction requirement.
- For DC input, verify electrical and mechanical details. If the specific board guide calls for a 48 V barrel-jack input, confirm voltage, polarity, plug dimensions, and board support against the guide. Connector shape alone is not enough to establish that an adapter is suitable.
- Check any output interface separately. For example, the PD70211EVB72FW-12 guide documents screw-terminal converter output. That is distinct from its Ethernet and barrel-jack interfaces; follow the board documentation for the output connection.
When a PoE splitter is relevant
A PoE splitter is an adjacent system component, not a cable connector. Microchip describes splitters as separating a combined Ethernet data-and-power stream into separate Ethernet-data and DC-power cords, with listed output options of 5 V, 12 V, and 24 V. See Microchip’s PoE splitter information and verify that the splitter, input, output voltage, and target equipment match your setup. Those output options do not establish compatibility with a particular board or device by themselves.

Specialized cable interfaces are not universal Microsemi connectors
Microchip also names passive, managed, and optical cables, along with SFF-8644, SFF-8643, SFF-8639, and OCuLink connector families, on pages for particular PCIe switch infrastructure systems. These are specialized, system-specific interfaces—not a basis for selecting a cable for an unspecified Microsemi board. Review the PCIe switch product information only if your equipment is one of those systems.

What can—and cannot—be compared
The available official documentation supports identifying connector types and roles on particular hardware. It does not provide comparative tests or evidence for ranking cables by performance, durability, or price, nor does it establish retail availability or compatibility across product families. Choose by the documented requirements of the exact equipment rather than by a “best Microsemi connector” label.
