Bosch Australia labels the SMS50M28AU “Product is no longer available,” and CHOICE marks it discontinued. The model is listed for 14 place settings. CHOICE gives dimensions of 85 × 60 × 60 cm, while Appliances Online lists 845 × 600 × 600 mm and says the height is 815 mm with the removable top removed. Treat these as published listing dimensions, not a substitute for checking the exact machine and installation requirements. Appliances Online’s listing provides the retailer figures.

- Measure the available width, depth and height, including any bench or overhead clearance.
- Check whether the removable top is relevant to your installation and confirm the resulting height.

What do the efficiency and noise figures actually tell you?
CHOICE lists 4 energy stars, 5 water stars, claimed energy use of 220 kWh per year and claimed water use of 11 litres. These are published figures, not a measurement of what a particular household will use. Appliance loading, cycle selection and use patterns can affect actual consumption. CHOICE’s listing is the source for those claims.
A Bosch/BSH specification sheet hosted by Appliances Online, published approximately in 2015, states 11 litres for water consumption and 0.60 kWh and 180 minutes for its reference programme. Those programme-specific figures are not directly interchangeable with CHOICE’s annual energy claim. The same older sheet gives a noise figure of 44 dB; Appliances Online also lists 44 dB. Which features are listed, and what is not proven?
Bosch lists AquaStop, heat-exchanger drying, a 4.0 energy-star rating and 5.0 water stars, and says the dishwasher does not have Wi-Fi or Home Connect. Retailer and specification listings also describe VarioSpeed, automatic sensing, an adjustable upper basket and five programmes. The older specification sheet names the SMZ2014 rack insert as an optional stemware accessory. Check its compatibility with the exact machine variant and its present availability before relying on it.

How strong is the evidence on washing and reliability?
CHOICE’s visible page gates its Expert Rating and detailed wash, drying and other test results. Its member-only fields also include measured energy, water and noise results, reliability, satisfaction and year tested. The accessible information therefore does not support a conclusion about how well this model cleans, how reliably it performs, or how it compares with another dishwasher. Retailer customer ratings are user feedback, not controlled product testing.
For an existing unit, Bosch’s model-specific support pages are the appropriate place to look for manuals, repair guidance and spare-part discovery. - Match the complete model number and suffix on the appliance to the seller’s listing and any documentation.
- Ask to see the machine run a full cycle. Watch for leaks, error messages and obvious operating problems; a brief power-on demonstration is not equivalent to a completed cycle.
- Confirm that the required hoses and other installation items are included, then check clearances and installation requirements against the machine’s documents.
- Get the condition, warranty terms and return arrangements in writing, especially for old stock.
- Use Bosch’s support entry point to check manuals and ask about repair and parts support for the exact variant before purchase.
How should you compare it with another dishwasher?
CHOICE identifies related Bosch models including SMI50M05AU, SMP63M05AU, SMS63M38AU, SMU50M05AU, SMU50M15AU, SMU63M25AU and SMV63M10AU. Similar model names do not make them interchangeable: CHOICE notes differences in colour, features and installation version. Compare each candidate on these points:
- Freestanding versus integrated installation, plus exact dimensions and available clearance.
- Capacity and the current energy and water labels for that exact model.
- Accessible independent wash, drying and noise test results rather than feature lists or retailer ratings.
- Warranty, repair and parts support, and the delivered price available now.
