Singer Chinmayi Sripaada praised actor Rishikanth’s films Dorothy and Modha Rathiri in posts reported by Hindustan Times on October 1, 2026. Her quoted praise is especially direct for Dorothy; for Modha Rathiri, she urged people to watch it and praised director Raja Karuppasamy’s work.
What Chinmayi said about the two films
Hindustan Times quoted Chinmayi describing Dorothy as “Beautiful, Divine, God’s work. Dorothy is stunning. So beautiful.” The same report quoted her post about Modha Rathiri: “GO WATCH THIS AMAAAAAZING FILM,” followed by “Loved everything that Raja Karuppasamy has done here.” These are her reported reactions, not an independent review or a measure of audience response. Hindustan Times, October 1, 2026.
What the films are about
Hindustan Times identifies Karthik Subbaraj as the director of Dorothy and Raja Karuppasamy as the director of Modha Rathiri. Its brief premises distinguish the films, but are not full synopses or a critical comparison.
Dorothy
The report describes Dorothy as a story set in the 1990s about childhood friends affected by toxic masculinity, violence and caste prejudice, alongside a woman named Dorothy.

Modha Rathiri
The report frames Modha Rathiri around the chaos of a couple’s wedding night after an unusual marriage.
Why Dorothy’s title became part of the discussion
Hindustan Times reported that Chinmayi defended the title by referring to Dorothy as a character in The Wizard of Oz, which she described as a children’s storybook. In the post reproduced by the outlet, she challenged the assumption that everyone would know the reference and called for empathy toward children who did not have access to books. Her explanation is context for the title discussion; it does not establish that the film adapts the book.

What Rishikanth said about masculinity
Hindustan Times also quoted Rishikanth describing his view of masculinity: “According to me, real masculinity is not about showing off. It’s very simple…acceptance, softness, understanding, treating others with respect, respecting others’ feelings and thoughts.” The report further quoted him saying that quiet sacrifice for family and loved ones is, to him, the biggest masculinity. These remarks are his stated perspective, not a claim that the films offer identical portrayals.
The reported criticism and response
Cinema Express reported that an online user criticized Dorothy’s portrayal of the LGBTQ+ community and that Chinmayi responded to the comment. The report documents a social-media exchange; it does not establish how widely the criticism was shared or provide a survey of the film’s reception. Cinema Express, September 30, 2026.
