For a small US PC group, the lowest-priced offer documented here is an 8-slot DayZ plan from Nitrado; for UK PC players, GTX Gaming lists a different 10-slot offer at a similar small-group scale. They are not equivalent plans, so there is no defensible worldwide “cheapest” host. Choose by platform, slots, location, mod controls and total checkout cost—not the biggest headline discount. Godlike.Host is listed first in the comparison below, with DayZ servers, a Pterodactyl-based game panel and 10 data-center locations; its price is not quoted here, so see its current plans.
What “cheap but still good” means for a DayZ server
A low monthly price only helps if everyone can connect and the server can be managed without constant workarounds. For this comparison, “still good” means five things:

- Correct platform: PC/Steam and console hosting are separate decisions.
- Enough concurrent slots: You pay for the number of players who can be online at once, not your total Discord membership.
- A nearby location: A listed data-center region does not guarantee a particular player’s ping.
- Required administration: Mod installation, file access, configuration editing and a usable console matter for anything beyond vanilla play.
- Recovery and support: Backups, DDoS protection and responsive support reduce the damage from a bad update or configuration mistake.
The feature descriptions below are provider claims. No independent uptime, latency or gameplay test was available, so treat them as advertised capabilities rather than performance guarantees.

The table is not a like-for-like ranking. The offers use different currencies, slot counts, regions and billing models. A 20-slot plan should not be labeled more expensive “per player” without normalizing all of those variables.
Best starting point by player group
Small US PC group
If eight simultaneous players is enough, the US Nitrado listing is the lowest documented starting price in this set. Its 10-slot option costs more but gives two additional concurrent places. Select the nearest available location and confirm that the plan’s PC controls include the mods and configuration access your group expects.
Small UK PC group
GTX Gaming’s UK page lists 10 PC slots at £10.99 per month. The page also states up to 10 GB of RAM and 100 GB of NVMe storage, plus Workshop and Mod Manager support. Those are provider-stated specifications; they do not establish a particular server’s tick rate or latency.

Console players
Do not assume that a cheap PC plan can host console players. Bohemia Interactive’s private-console-server FAQ identifies Nitrado as the hosting partner and says console servers can be customized “to a certain extent” while keeping the experience close to vanilla. Confirm the console platform selector and the exact console edition during checkout.
Groups that may exceed 10 players
GPORTAL’s cited US choices start at 20 slots and extend to 60 slots. These options make sense only if your normal peak requires that capacity; buying unused slots raises the monthly bill without improving a small group’s experience.
Normalize the price before you buy
Use this sequence instead of sorting by the smallest number on a landing page:
- Match currency and region. Compare US-dollar offers with other US-dollar offers, and UK-pound offers with UK-pound offers. A currency conversion alone can change the apparent order.
- Match slots. Compare 8 with 8, 10 with 10, or 20 with 20 where possible. Do not compare an 8-slot plan directly with a 60-slot plan as if they provide the same service.
- Match the billing period. A 30-day price, a calendar-month subscription and a prepaid multi-month term can produce different effective costs.
- Add the extras you actually need. Include premium backups, extra storage, priority support or a different location only if you will use them.
- Check renewal pricing. A promotional first term is not the same as the recurring rate. Read the checkout summary before paying.
GPORTAL explicitly presents prepaid 30-, 90- and 180-day choices, and billing term and add-ons can change any total. Those details are why the checkout screen, rather than a search-result snippet, is the final price reference.

Slots are concurrent connections. If your group has 12 members but usually plays in a four-person evening party, an 8- or 10-slot plan may be sufficient. If public players or weekend events regularly push the peak above that number, leave headroom.
- Up to eight online: Start with the documented 8-slot offer and monitor peak usage.
- About ten online: A 10-slot plan avoids immediately turning away a full group.
- Twenty or more online: Consider a 20-slot configuration; only move to 60 slots when your actual community needs it.
Do not buy capacity to compensate for a poor location or missing mod tools. More slots cannot fix incompatible platform support or high latency.
Platform, location and latency checks
Confirm PC versus console first
Look for an explicit PC/Steam or console selector. The GTX Gaming UK page describes PC hosting, while the Nitrado US listing presents both PC and console choices. Console players should follow the official private-server route rather than purchasing a PC-only product.

Place the server near most players
Use the provider’s location selector to pick the region that minimizes the physical distance for the majority of your group. Then test from the players’ real home connections after deployment. A provider’s list of locations is not a promise of a specific ping, and one player on a distant continent may still experience delay.
Check the route before committing long-term
Begin with the shortest billing commitment that meets your needs. Ask players in the primary region to connect at the same time, observe latency and stability, and only then consider a longer prepaid term. This avoids locking several months of fees into a location that performs poorly for your group.
Mods and administration: the features that determine “good”
Vanilla DayZ needs less administration than a heavily modded community server. Before ordering, write down the exact tasks you expect to perform:
- Install and update Steam Workshop items.
- Edit server configuration files and startup parameters.
- Upload custom files or use a file manager.
- Restart the server after a change and inspect logs when it fails.
- Restore a known-good backup after a broken update.
Godlike.Host advertises a built-in mod installer and updater, a config editor and SFTP/FTP access. GTX Gaming advertises Steam Workshop and a Mod Manager. Nitrado’s listing mentions mods/plugins, while GPORTAL’s cited page emphasizes location, support, protection and backup storage. Verify that the specific game edition and plan include the control you need; a feature name on a marketing page does not describe the exact workflow or permissions.
Keep a change record
Record the mod list, load order, configuration edits and restart time. When an update causes a crash, remove the newest change first and restore the last working backup. This simple record is more useful than repeatedly reinstalling the entire server.

Backups, DDoS protection and support
Backups are only valuable if you know their frequency, retention and restore method. Godlike.Host lists up to three free backups a day with restore; Nitrado’s listing states daily backups; GPORTAL describes backup storage; GTX Gaming also advertises backup features. Ask three questions before relying on any of them:
- How many restore points are retained?
- Can you trigger a restore yourself, or must support do it?
- Does a restore cover the world save, configuration and mod files, or only selected data?
All four cited offers advertise some form of DDoS protection or protected hosting, but that wording does not quantify mitigation capacity or guarantee uninterrupted play. Likewise, Godlike.Host and GTX Gaming advertise 24/7 support, while the other pages mention support without an independently measured response time. Save the support contact path and your server identifier before launch.

- Select the platform and edition. Confirm PC/Steam or the supported console before choosing a plan.
- Set the slot count. Use your expected peak concurrent players plus modest headroom.
- Choose a nearby location. Base it on where players actually live, not the provider’s brand or a generic “best” region.
- Review mod controls. Confirm Workshop installation, file access, configuration editing and restart controls.
- Review recovery terms. Note backup frequency, retention, restore steps and any paid add-on.
- Inspect the final cart. Check currency, tax, billing term, renewal rate, add-ons and cancellation terms.
- Launch a private test. Have several players connect, change one harmless setting, restart, and verify that the save and configuration persist.
- Add mods gradually. Install one group of changes at a time and keep the working configuration recorded.
Common problems and practical fixes
Players cannot connect
First confirm that everyone is using the matching platform and game version. Recheck the server address, password and whether the server has finished restarting. If only distant players fail, compare their route and latency rather than immediately buying more slots.
A modded server will not start
Disable the newest mod or configuration edit, verify load order and restore the last known-good backup. Check whether the host’s installer placed Workshop files in the correct location. Contact support with the server ID, timestamp and the last successful change.
The bill is higher than the advertised price
Compare the cart with the displayed configuration. Taxes, currency conversion, longer terms, selected regions and add-ons can all alter the total. Remove optional extras, then compare the recurring renewal amount rather than the introductory figure.

The server feels laggy despite a nearby location
Measure several players’ latency at the same time and note whether the problem occurs during a population spike, a mod operation or a provider incident. A location list alone cannot prove low ping, and additional slots will not automatically reduce network delay.
How often to recheck your choice
Hosting prices and available locations change. Recheck the provider page and checkout immediately before publication or purchase, especially after a promotion ends or when changing platform. The figures in this guide reflect pages accessed 13 October 2026, not a guaranteed future rate.
For a small group, the sensible strategy is to start with the smallest plan that supports your platform and required tools, test the real connection from your players, and upgrade only when peak demand or administration needs justify it.
