There is no single cheapest CS 1.6 host that is best for every group. The lowest useful choice depends on your players’ location, the number of slots you need, required mods and maps, and whether the advertised price is a real monthly total or only a per-slot starting figure. Current listings show a six-slot configuration at €1.50 from ServerProject, KGB Hosting advertising €0.40 per slot in Frankfurt, protected plans from £4.50 per month at Nitrous Networks, and a €2.99 24/7 beta offer from 1up Servers. Those prices describe different configurations and service conditions, so they are not an apples-to-apples ranking.
Use the figures below as a shortlist, then verify the checkout total, location inventory, renewal price, and features for your exact server. No independent ping, uptime, or support-response testing was performed, so “still good” means a suitable configuration with clearly disclosed trade-offs—not a proven universal winner.

What “cheap but still good” means for a CS 1.6 server
Counter-Strike 1.6 has a small resource footprint, but a low price alone does not guarantee a playable server. A host can be inexpensive yet unsuitable if its data center is far from your players, the selected location is unavailable, or its panel cannot install your AMX Mod X plugins and custom maps.
Judge a plan on five practical questions:
- Can players reach the data center with acceptable ping? Choose the region nearest the actual group and test from representative connections.
- Does the plan include enough slots? A per-slot price and a complete monthly plan are different things.
- Can you administer the game? Check for console, file or FTP access, plugin and mod support, custom-map uploads, and database access where needed.
- What happens during an attack or crash? Verify the scope of DDoS mitigation, backups, crash recovery, and restoration rather than assuming they are included.
- What will you pay later? Compare tax, currency conversion, billing period, promotional discounts, and renewal terms.
These checks matter more than a provider’s “from” price. A slightly higher plan in the right region can deliver a better experience than the cheapest distant server.

Current low-cost CS 1.6 hosting offers
The following observations come from provider pages and a dated comparison page viewed in October 2026. Prices, taxes, promotions, and location availability can change; confirm the live selector and checkout before ordering.
| Provider | Observed offer | What is included or stated | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| ServerProject | €1.50 for six slots, 30 days | Poland or France location selector; gross price including VAT; DDoS protection, management panel, HLTV/public demo archive, automatic fast download, backups, crash recovery, and a free database listed | This was the displayed six-slot configuration, not a verified general starting price. The page says renewal is no more than the purchase amount before discount codes. |
| KGB Hosting | €0.40 per slot in Frankfurt; €0.60 per slot in Zagreb | Selector showed 12 slots; mod support, HLTV, anti-cheat compatibility, custom maps, instant setup, and DDoS protection listed | Belgrade was marked unavailable and the page advised choosing Zagreb. Confirm the monthly total and selected location at checkout. |
| Nitrous Networks | From £4.50 per month | Protected plans for 10–64 players, unlimited RAM, DDoS protection, free mod installation, free MySQL, and several network locations | The page states UK prices include 20% VAT. The £4.50 figure is a starting price; verify player count and location. |
| 1up Servers | From €2.99 for a 24/7 server | Valve HLDS with the cstrike mod; opens on de_dust2 for 16 players; provider estimates about 150 MB memory and under 1 GB of files | The service is explicitly beta, and the server image may change without notice. Do not treat the price as evidence of proven stability. |
| EUGameHost | $4.09/month, billed in GBP | Lowest starting price reported in an October 2026 comparison of four hosts | This is the comparison publisher’s finding, not an independently verified current checkout quote or performance test. |
| GTXGaming | $5.94/month | Second-lowest starting price in that same four-host comparison | Comparison-page figure; verify the actual slot count, billing currency, and current offer. |
| Streamline Servers | $6.94/month | Third-lowest starting price in that comparison | Comparison-page figure, not an independent uptime or latency result. |
The figures cannot be ranked without normalizing slot count, location, tax, currency, billing term, and renewal price. For example, €0.40 per slot is not directly comparable with a six-slot plan at €1.50 or a protected 10-player plan at £4.50.
How to compare the real cost
1. Normalize the slot count
Start with your actual use case. A private group of six should compare six-slot totals; a 10-player match should compare 10-slot plans; a public server may need headroom for spectators and peak demand. Multiply any per-slot price by the required slots, then check whether the provider imposes a minimum order. KGB Hosting’s page displayed 12 slots even while advertising a per-slot figure, so its advertised unit price does not by itself establish a 12-slot monthly total.
2. Check tax and currency
ServerProject’s displayed €1.50 was gross and included VAT. Nitrous Networks states that UK prices include 20% VAT. Other listings may show a currency conversion or a tax-exclusive amount until checkout. Record the amount charged to your payment method, not only the headline currency.

3. Separate introductory and renewal pricing
Look for discount codes, first-term promotions, recurring billing, and the post-promotion renewal amount. ServerProject says renewal is no more than the purchase amount before discount codes, but that statement applies to its displayed offer and should still be checked against the order summary.
4. Price the location, not just the plan
A nearby data center generally reduces network delay, but the nearest advertised city may be sold out. KGB Hosting marked Belgrade unavailable and directed customers to Zagreb. Treat a location selector as the source of truth and recheck it immediately before payment.
Choosing a region and checking ping
List where your regular players live, then choose the closest available data center that serves most of them. If the group spans continents, prioritize the largest cluster or consider separate servers rather than forcing everyone onto a distant compromise.

- Ask several players to note their normal ping to the provider’s candidate region using a network diagnostic or an existing game server in that area.
- Compare at least two available regions, not just the provider’s default.
- Repeat the check at the times you normally play; evening congestion can expose problems a daytime test misses.
- After deployment, connect to the server and watch in-game latency during a full match. A low advertised price is not a latency measurement.
Provider pages may claim network quality or protection, but those are marketing statements unless supported by independent measurements. This comparison found no hands-on latency, uptime, or support tests.

Features that determine whether a cheap server is usable
Mods, plugins, and maps
Confirm support for AMX Mod X or the specific plugin framework your community uses. Ask whether you can upload custom maps, edit configuration files, and restart the server without opening a ticket. KGB Hosting lists mod support, anti-cheat compatibility, and custom maps; ServerProject lists a management panel and automatic fast download. Those listings indicate advertised capability, not a guarantee that every plugin will work.
File and control-panel access
At minimum, you need a console, configuration editing, log access, and a way to upload maps and plugins. A file manager or FTP access makes recovery easier when a configuration change prevents startup. Atomic Networks describes a panel with console, file manager, server importing, logs, and resource monitoring; verify the exact tools and permissions on the plan you select.
DDoS protection
Public servers can attract nuisance traffic. ServerProject, KGB Hosting, and Nitrous Networks list DDoS protection, but the pages do not establish mitigation capacity, attack-size limits, filtering locations, or guaranteed response times. Ask what is covered, whether protection applies continuously, and whether an attacked server is automatically null-routed.

Backups are useful only if you know their frequency, retention, storage location, and restoration process. ServerProject lists backups and a crash-recovery system. Treat those as provider claims and confirm whether you can trigger a restore yourself or must contact support.

Which shortlist fits common use cases?
Small private group
If six friends play together, ServerProject’s displayed €1.50 six-slot, 30-day configuration is the clearest low-cost figure in the listings. It includes VAT and lists management, backups, and crash recovery. Confirm that Poland or France is close enough to your players and that the six-slot limit is sufficient.
Players near Frankfurt or Zagreb
KGB Hosting’s €0.40-per-slot Frankfurt and €0.60-per-slot Zagreb figures may be attractive for those regions. The page showed a 12-slot selector and listed mod and custom-map support. Check the final 12-slot monthly amount and choose Zagreb if Belgrade remains unavailable.
A protected 10-player community server
Nitrous Networks lists protected plans from £4.50 per month for 10–64 players, with unlimited RAM, DDoS protection, free mod installation, and free MySQL. Select the exact player count and a nearby network location; the starting price does not prove that every configuration costs £4.50.

1up Servers’ €2.99 24/7 offer may suit experimentation with the standard cstrike setup, but it is explicitly beta and the image can change without notice. Its own description targets de_dust2 and 16 players, with an estimated 150 MB memory footprint and less than 1 GB of files. Avoid it for a community that needs predictable long-term operation until you accept that caveat. Godlike.Host also hosts CS 1.6 servers with its own game panel, free DDoS protection and 10 data-center locations, and its CS 1.6 page offers a free server for trying the panel (it must be extended every 3 hours, has limited panel features and one location), so see the current plans.

Purchase and setup checklist
- Define the requirement: write down slot count, game mode, plugins, maps, expected peak time, and player countries.
- Select a region: use the live location selector and remove sold-out cities from consideration.
- Normalize prices: calculate the complete monthly amount with tax, currency conversion, and any minimum slot count.
- Read renewal terms: record the recurring price and cancellation deadline before applying a discount.
- Verify administration: confirm console, file access, map uploads, plugin installation, logs, and database access if required.
- Check resilience: ask about DDoS mitigation, backups, crash recovery, restore times, and incident support.
- Deploy a test configuration: install the intended plugins and one custom map before inviting the full community.
- Measure real play: have players connect during normal hours and record ping, loss, crashes, and restart behavior.
Common failure modes and fixes
The server is cheap but ping is high
Move to a nearer available location or choose a provider with a data center closer to the player majority. Do not try to solve geographic delay with server settings.
The advertised price is unavailable
Check whether the figure applied to a different slot count, a promotional term, or a sold-out location. Recalculate using the plan and city that the selector actually allows.
A plugin or map will not load
Confirm the server’s mod framework and game build, check file permissions and map names, and review startup logs. If the panel lacks file or console access, ask support whether the plan permits the required customization before renewing.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Players experience crashes
Disable the most recently added plugin, inspect logs, and restore a known-good configuration. If the provider advertises crash recovery or backups, request the documented restore procedure and retention details.
The server is attacked or repeatedly disconnected
Open an incident ticket with timestamps, source addresses if available, and console logs. Ask whether DDoS protection is active for the plan and whether traffic filtering or null-routing has been applied. Provider protection claims do not specify a guaranteed outcome.
How to interpret third-party comparisons
TopServer.Network’s October 2026 comparison reported starting prices of $4.09 per month billed in GBP for EUGameHost, $5.94 for GTXGaming, and $6.94 for Streamline Servers among four hosts. It recommended comparing actual slots and RAM, selecting a nearby data center, checking plugin support, and confirming DDoS protection. Use those figures as another shortlist reference, not as independently verified checkout prices or performance results.
Because hosting inventory and pricing change, revisit the provider’s order page on the day you buy. A transparent, slightly higher quote with the right region and recovery tools is often better value than an ultra-low entry number that cannot run your intended server.
