ChatGPT Pro Premium Plan: Tiers, Limits and 2026 Availability

ChatGPT Pro now has $100 and $200 tiers with different usage allowances. Learn what each includes, the current GPT-6 Pro caps, billing rules and why Pro $200 is paused for new sign-ups.

ChatGPT Pro is OpenAI’s premium monthly subscription for intensive, complex work. In September 2026, OpenAI lists two tiers—Pro $100 and Pro $200—with the same core capabilities but different usage allowances. New Pro $200 sign-ups and upgrades are temporarily paused, while Pro $100 remains available. Neither tier provides unlimited access to every model.

What do you get with ChatGPT Pro?

OpenAI describes Pro as a subscription for people who need substantially more capacity than Plus. Its listed capabilities include Pro models, Codex, deep research, image creation, memory and file uploads. Access can still depend on the model, account or workspace settings, and applicable usage rules. See OpenAI’s current ChatGPT Pro tier documentation for the live feature list.

What is the difference between Pro $100 and Pro $200?

The main distinction is the amount of usage OpenAI assigns to each tier. OpenAI describes Pro $100 as providing five times the usage of Plus and Pro $200 as providing 20 times the usage of Plus. Core capabilities are shared, although individual model allowances differ.

Plan OpenAI’s stated usage versus Plus Availability for new subscribers (September 2026)
Pro $100 5× Plus usage Available
Pro $200 20× Plus usage New sign-ups and upgrades temporarily paused

These are OpenAI’s broad plan-level comparisons, not a promise that every model or tool can be used five or 20 times more often.

Can I still subscribe to ChatGPT Pro $200?

Not if you are a new subscriber or upgrading today. OpenAI says the pause on new Pro $200 sign-ups and upgrades began on September 10, 2026. It applies to upgrades from Free, Go, Plus and Pro $100. Existing Pro $200 subscribers continue to have their subscriptions, and Pro $100 subscriptions are unaffected. The status is temporary and may change, so check the official tier page before making a plan decision.

Does ChatGPT Pro have usage limits?

Yes. Pro increases allowances but does not make every model unlimited. OpenAI’s current model-limit guidance lists the following ChatGPT allowances:

Model and tier Stated allowance
GPT-6 Pro on Pro $100 50 messages per week
GPT-6 Pro on Pro $200 200 messages per week

OpenAI also explains a different arrangement for GPT-5.6 Sol Pro. Pro $100 uses one shared weekly allowance across GPT-6 Pro and GPT-5.6 Sol Pro. On Pro $200, the GPT-6 Pro weekly allowance is separate from the GPT-5.6 Sol Pro daily allowance, with an additional combined daily cap. The exact counters and reset behavior are described in OpenAI’s model availability and limits article.

When an allowance is exhausted, the model can become temporarily unavailable until its reset time. ChatGPT may show that reset time. OpenAI states: “OpenAI Support does not reset ChatGPT or Codex usage limits.”

How much does ChatGPT Pro cost?

The current plan names are Pro $100 and Pro $200, but the final amount shown at checkout can vary with currency, taxes, region and billing channel. Verify the amount in your account before purchasing. The cited Help Center material does not establish one universal localized total.

For historical context, OpenAI’s December 5, 2024 launch announcement introduced ChatGPT Pro as a $200-per-month plan. That announcement describes the original launch, not the complete current two-tier offer: Introducing ChatGPT Pro.

Is ChatGPT Pro billed annually?

No annual billing or multi-month prepayment is currently supported for Pro, according to OpenAI’s billing guidance. The subscription is monthly.

Changing or cancelling a plan

  1. Open ChatGPT and go to Settings → My Plan.
  2. Choose an available upgrade, downgrade or cancellation option.
  3. An upgrade to an available tier takes effect immediately.
  4. A downgrade generally takes effect at the next renewal.
  5. Cancellation preserves access through the end of the current billing period.

Because Pro $200 sign-ups are paused, it may not appear as an upgrade choice even when Pro $100 is available.

Which Pro tier fits your workload?

Choose Pro $100 when

  • You need Pro features and models but do not routinely approach the highest allowances.
  • GPT-6 Pro usage within the stated 50-message weekly allowance is sufficient.
  • You want the currently available Pro option at the lower tier.

Consider Pro $200 only if

  • You are already subscribed and need its larger allowances.
  • Your work regularly exceeds the Pro $100 capacity and the tier becomes available for new subscriptions again.

Compare your expected model usage—not just the headline multiplier—because GPT-6 Pro and GPT-5.6 Sol Pro have separate or shared counters depending on the tier.

What ChatGPT Pro is—and is not

  • It is: a digital software subscription with higher usage allowances and access to advanced OpenAI capabilities.
  • It is not: a guarantee of unlimited access to every model, a physical product, or a subscription with annual prepayment.
  • No accessory is required: OpenAI’s plan descriptions do not identify a particular computer accessory, book, consumable or repair tool needed to use Pro.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Pro $100 is the currently available premium tier, with five times Plus usage and a stated 50 GPT-6 Pro messages per week. Pro $200 offers the larger allowance but is temporarily closed to new subscribers and upgrades as of September 10, 2026. Check OpenAI’s Help Center and the amount shown in your account before subscribing, since limits, availability and localized billing can change.
