OpenAI announced dots on September 29, 2026: always-on agents that can work through a cloud computer and browser, connect to apps, and be reached through ChatGPT, Slack, Teams, or voice. Ben Angel’s Entrepreneur article describes seven ways entrepreneurs might use them, from preparing social posts to checking for billing gaps. These are workflow ideas, not proven routes to fast growth: neither the article nor the product announcement reports a controlled test or measured revenue lift.
What ChatGPT dots are—and who can use them
OpenAI describes dots as agents that can work in the background and interact with connected apps. The company says its plugin ecosystem connects to more than 4,000 apps. Dots can be reached through ChatGPT, Slack, Teams, or voice, according to OpenAI’s September 29, 2026 announcement.

Availability was staged at launch, not universal. OpenAI said Pro and Business Premium users in eligible markets were included, while Enterprise, Edu, and Healthcare users could try a beta if an administrator enabled it. Plans, markets, and rollout status can change, so check OpenAI’s current availability information before relying on access.

Users can set app permissions and rules, monitor progress, review actions, and approve consequential actions. These controls do not mean a dot has access to every company system: access depends on what is connected and permitted. OpenAI also cautions that dots can make mistakes and says consequential work should be reviewed.

Seven business workflows Ben Angel suggests
In an October 2, 2026 Entrepreneur contributor article, Ben Angel offers the following examples. They are possible assignments for an agent, not guarantees that the work will be accurate, fully automated, or profitable.
1. Compare competitor offers before developing a product
Ask a dot to compare competitor offers and surface customer questions that could inform a product decision. Treat the output as input to your judgment, not a verdict on market demand. Angel puts the boundary plainly: “Researching an opportunity is not permission to pursue it.”
Rank #2
2. Turn a video transcript into social-media drafts
Give the agent a transcript and request draft posts for the social channels you use. Check that the copy accurately reflects the video, fits each channel, and does not introduce claims or promises the business cannot support.

3. Find launch materials affected by a changed date or scope
If a launch date or project scope changes, a dot could search connected materials for affected items and prepare revisions. Review the items it finds and the proposed edits before anything is updated or shared.
Rank #3
4. Revise a sales proposal when requirements change
A dot could compare new requirements with a proposal, draft changes, and flag unanswered questions for the owner. A draft is not approval to promise pricing, delivery, or other terms; someone responsible for the deal should decide what the business can commit to.
5. Compare completed work with billing records
Ask the agent to compare evidence of completed work with billing records and flag a possible missed invoice. A mismatch is a prompt to investigate, not proof that a customer owes money. Verify the contract, work record, and accounting details before changing a financial record or contacting the customer.
Rank #4
6. Help plan the owner’s day
A dot could organize priorities and suggest a daily plan using information it is allowed to access. The owner still needs to resolve conflicts, account for unshared commitments, and choose what actually takes precedence.

How to choose a first task and keep it reviewable
There is no evidence-based ranking of these seven examples. Choose based on your own workflow, using these questions:
- Frequency: Does the task recur often enough to justify setting it up?
- Attention burden: Does it consume meaningful time or focus?
- Checkability: Can you compare the output with source material or a clear standard?
- Data sensitivity: What business or customer information would the task expose through connected apps?
- Allowed actions: Should the dot only read and draft, or may it make limited changes?
- Approval: Which decisions or external actions must wait for a person?
Start with one recurring cognitive task and define an output you can inspect, such as a comparison, draft, flagged discrepancy, or proposed update. Use the narrowest app permissions that let the task work. Keep human approval for consequential steps, including customer communications, commitments, financial-record changes, and strategic decisions.
What the adoption numbers do—and do not—show
Intuit QuickBooks’ July 2026 Small Business Insights survey reported that 80% of surveyed small businesses regularly used AI and that 41% of respondents using AI used it for marketing. The quarterly survey covered approximately 5,000 small and midsize businesses across the US, Canada, UK, and Australia. It also reported that 18% of businesses using AI said it was core to operations. These are self-reported adoption findings, not evidence that AI causes revenue growth.

That offers context for cross-role task use; it is not a study of dots or evidence that these workflows grow a business.
