You can change the location that some websites associate with your iPhone by connecting through a VPN server in another place. That changes the apparent IP address for traffic routed through the VPN; it does not move your iPhone’s GPS location or automatically change what apps learn through Location Services.
Change the apparent IP location with a VPN
Use the VPN provider’s iOS app to choose a server. The exact labels and screens vary by provider, but the process is generally:

Install and open the VPN provider’s app, then sign in or create an account if required.

When iOS asks to add a VPN configuration, allow it. The app needs this permission to establish its VPN connection.

Open the app’s server or location list and select the country or location you want.

Tap the app’s connect control and wait until it reports that you are connected.

For one provider-specific example, Private Internet Access’s iOS guide, dated September 18, 2026, describes allowing the configuration, opening “VPN SERVER,” choosing a location, and connecting: PIA’s iOS setup guide. Other VPN apps may use different labels.

What location a VPN changes
A VPN routes supported internet traffic through a selected server. Websites and services may then see the VPN server’s IP address and infer a location associated with it. Apple describes VPNs as tools that can encrypt and route certain network traffic and may hide an IP address from websites and services; the effect depends on the VPN and how traffic is configured. This is an IP-based network location, not a change to the iPhone’s physical position. A website may still apply its own location checks or handle VPN traffic differently, so selecting a server does not guarantee a particular site or app will show a particular region.
What a VPN does not change: GPS and app location
iPhone Location Services can use GPS, nearby Wi-Fi networks, cellular networks, and Bluetooth to determine device location. An app granted location permission may use that information independently of the VPN’s IP address. Apple’s Location Services overview

As a result, a browser using a VPN and an app using Location Services can report different locations. Some apps may check device signals such as GPS, and a mismatch can cause inaccurate regional information or additional verification. A VPN server selection is not a way to make Maps or another GPS-based app think the phone is physically somewhere else.
Review which apps can access your location
If your goal is to limit location access rather than change an IP-based location, use iOS controls:

Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services.

Tap the app you want to review.

Adjust its location permission. If you want to provide less precise information, turn off Precise Location; the app will receive only an approximate location.
Turning off Location Services entirely can limit important iPhone features. Review permissions app by app and keep access enabled where an app needs it to work as intended. Apple’s Location Services overview

iCloud Private Relay is an iCloud+ privacy feature focused on Safari, not a VPN app with a general server-location picker. Apple says it sends traffic through two separate relays. Users can choose whether the IP address retains a general location or uses a broader country-and-time-zone level. Private Relay is not available in every country or region.
