They are separate settings. Choose the one that matches what you want to change instead of changing several settings at once.
Which Chromecast location setting should you change?
| Setting | What it controls | Where it applies | Where to change it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Home home address | Local place, weather, and time responses | The selected home and its devices | Google Home app: Settings > Home information > Home address |
| Google Account home and work addresses | Personal address information used to personalize Google products | Your Google Account | Google Account personal information settings |
| Google Play country | Google Play Store and app content availability | Your Google Play profile | Google Play: Settings > Country and profiles |
| Device setup region | Region selected during initial Chromecast with Google TV or Google TV Streamer setup | The streaming device | Selected during setup; Google’s cited setup guides do not give an in-place change path for a configured device |
| Wi-Fi network | The router and network the streaming device uses to connect | The streaming device | Google TV or Google TV Streamer settings, or Google Home for older supported devices |
Google distinguishes a Google Account’s personal home and work addresses from the address assigned to a home in the Google Home app. Google’s explanation of the difference is useful if you are unsure which address you mean.

Change the address for a Google Home household
Use this option when you have moved and want devices assigned to a particular Google Home household to use the new physical address for local place, weather, and time requests. It does not change your Play country or the region selected on a streaming device.
- Open the Google Home app and select the home you want to update.
- Tap Settings > Home information > Home address.
- Tap Edit, enter the new address, and position the map pin at the correct location.
- Tap Done.
Follow Google’s steps for changing a Google Home address if the app labels differ or you need more help.

If you cannot edit the address
- Confirm that the intended home is selected in Google Home.
- Check that you are signed in to the account associated with the device.
- Home members may need permission to manage home-wide settings; an admin has broader access. See Google’s guide to home members and permissions.
Change your personal Google Account addresses
If you want to update the home or work address associated with your personal account, edit it in your Google Account’s personal information settings. This is separate from the household address in Google Home, so changing one does not substitute for changing the other. See Google’s instructions for Google Account home and work locations.
Change your Google Play country
Change Play country only if you have moved and need the Google Play Store and apps to use the catalog for your new country. It is not a way to change the physical address of a Google Home or the setup region of a Chromecast.

Check eligibility first
- You must be in the new country and have a payment method from that country.
- Google says you must wait at least 90 days between Play country changes; additional restrictions may apply.
- You cannot change Play country while you are a member of a Google Family group.
- The country option may not appear if you are not in a new country, changed country within the last 90 days, or belong to a Family group.
Update the Play country
- Open Google Play and tap your profile icon.
- Go to Settings > General > Account and device preferences > Country and profiles. Labels may vary by device or app version.
- Choose the new country and follow the prompts to add a payment method from that country.
- Allow up to 48 hours for the Play profile to update.
Before confirming, review Google’s current Play country guidance and its account consequences:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- You may lose access to some books, movies, TV shows, games, and apps.
- Existing subscriptions stay on the old payment profile unless you cancel them.
- Your Google Play balance remains tied to the old country.
- Play Points and your level do not carry over.
About changing the device’s setup region
Google’s guides for setting up Chromecast with Google TV and setting up Google TV Streamer instruct users to select a region during initial setup. Those guides do not establish a supported menu path for changing the region after the device has been configured. Do not assume that changing the Google Home address or Play country changes the device’s setup region, and do not treat a factory reset as a documented fix for this specific issue.

Connect Chromecast to a different Wi-Fi network
If you have a new router or moved to a home with different Wi-Fi, update the network connection rather than the address or country setting. Google says its streaming devices remember one Wi-Fi network at a time.
Google TV or Google TV Streamer
Use the device’s TV settings to forget the old network, then select and join the new network. Google’s instructions are in Change the Wi-Fi network of Google streaming devices.
