Change a Blog Post’s Featured Image in Manual Mode: Step-by-Step

Find the featured-image setting for an individual post, replace its image, and publish the change. Learn what to check if the blog listing or social preview still shows the old image.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

In manual mode, open Blog management, find the post, open its ⋮ menu and settings, then choose Featured image and click Replace image. Select an image or upload one, save the change, and update the website to publish it.

Replace the image on an individual post

  1. Open the website editor and expand Blog management in the left panel.
  2. Find the post you want to edit and click the adjacent ⋮ menu.
  3. Open the post settings and select the Featured image tab.
  4. Click Replace image.
  5. Choose an image from the media library, browse the free-image choices, or upload an image.
  6. Save the change, then update the website to publish it.

A width-to-height ratio of 5:3 is recommended for a blog-post cover image.

Understand which image setting you need

A post’s featured image is set in that specific post’s settings. It appears alongside the post title and description when the article is shared on social media.

It is not the same as the general website preview image or an individual page’s social image. Those are separate link-preview settings; changing them does not replace a blog post’s featured image.

  • CRISP CLARITY: This 23.8″ Philips V line monitor delivers crisp Full HD 1920x1080 visuals. Enjoy movies, shows and videos with remarkable detail
  • INCREDIBLE CONTRAST: The VA panel produces brighter whites and deeper blacks. You get true-to-life images and more gradients with 16.7 million colors
  • THE PERFECT VIEW: The 178/178 degree extra wide viewing angle prevents the shifting of colors when viewed from an offset angle, so you always get consistent colors

  • A BETTER READING EXPERIENCE: For busy office workers, EasyRead mode provides a more paper-like experience for when viewing lengthy documents

If the new image is set but does not appear in a blog listing, check that blog section’s setting for showing or hiding featured images. The listing’s visibility control is separate from the post’s image selection.

If the image or social preview still looks wrong

  • Confirm the update was published. Save the post change and update the website.
  • Check the blog section. If the image is missing from the on-site listing, make sure that section is configured to display featured images.
  • Allow for preview refresh. A social link preview may take several hours to reflect a change. Clear the social service’s cached preview if it continues to show the old image.
  • Avoid editing in multiple places at once. Avoid simultaneous editing in multiple tabs or devices.
  • Check the image file. Link-preview images can be PNG, JPG, or JPEG files up to 15 MB. A recommended size for link-preview images is 1200 × 630 pixels; these details concern link previews, while the featured-image guidance recommends a 5:3 ratio.

For link-preview troubleshooting, check the social service’s guidance.
