In Poland, central e-registration (CeR) is the booking system for certain appointments—not a requirement to book online yourself. For an eligible appointment, you can use the Internetowe Konto Pacjenta (IKP) or mojeIKP app, or call or visit a participating clinic and ask its staff to register you through CeR. Follow-ups and some post-hospital appointments may instead be arranged directly with the treating clinic.
What “central” means—and what it doesn’t
CeR coordinates eligible bookings centrally. It does not mean that every patient must use a website or app. Poland’s official patient portal says patients can book online through IKP or mojeIKP, or contact a facility by phone or in person; the facility can then use CeR on the patient’s behalf. That makes “central e-registration versus booking directly with a clinic” an imperfect either-or comparison. You may contact the clinic directly as your channel, while the staff member places the eligible booking in the central system. The key questions are whether your appointment is covered and whether it is a first visit, follow-up, or post-hospital appointment.
Which appointments can use CeR?
Official Polish patient guidance lists mammography, HPV HR testing, and first appointments in a growing number of specialist categories. The rollout is phased, and the available categories and slots can depend on the provider and the patient’s situation. The official guidance says that clinics began making eight additional specialist categories available from 1 August 2026; check the current category list and your eligibility in IKP or on pacjent.gov.pl before trying to book. NFZ also describes the introduction as phased in its 2026 rollout information.

CeR does not cover every consultation. In particular, an appointment with a specialist who is already treating you may follow a different route from a first appointment. Confirm the appointment type rather than assuming that every visit in a covered specialty must be booked centrally.
When to use the central route or contact the clinic

For cardiology, official guidance specifies that a patient booking a first visit needs a referral and NFZ coverage. Someone already under a cardiologist’s care arranges the next appointment directly with that clinic, and some post-hospital referrals are arranged by the facility according to the discharge plan. How to find an appointment
- Identify the visit type. Check whether this is a first visit, screening, follow-up, or post-hospital appointment. For ongoing care or a discharge-plan appointment, contact the treating clinic or facility first.
- Choose a booking channel for an eligible appointment. Use IKP or mojeIKP, or phone or visit a participating clinic and ask staff to register you through CeR.
- Look for the waiting-room option if no suitable slot appears. Where it is offered, you can state your preferences and seek a released appointment that matches them. Availability and how it works are described in the official waiting-room guidance.
- Expand your search if you can. A wider location radius or date range may show additional appointments. Check the options in the official instructions for changing search settings.
- Verify current coverage and eligibility. Categories are being introduced in phases, so check IKP or the official patient portal for the current rules rather than relying on an older list.
Is online booking mandatory?
No. For an appointment eligible for CeR, online booking through IKP or mojeIKP is one option, not the only one. You can ask a participating clinic to enter the booking for you by phone or in person. The clinic-assisted route still uses CeR; it is not necessarily a separate, non-central booking process.
What to do if the routes are unclear
- If you need a first appointment or screening, check whether that appointment appears as eligible in IKP or ask the clinic whether it participates in CeR for that service.
- If you are already receiving treatment, contact the clinic that is treating you and ask how it schedules follow-ups.
- If your appointment follows a hospital stay, check the discharge plan or ask the hospital which facility is responsible for arranging it.
- If you cannot find a suitable date, check whether the waiting-room option is available and widen your location or date preferences where practical.
Poland-specific rules
This explanation concerns Poland’s central electronic registration system. “Central e-registration” is used in other contexts too, but eligibility, booking channels, and exceptions depend on the country and health system. Do not apply CeR rules to a clinic or public health service elsewhere without checking its local guidance.
