Yes. You can get an entry-level networking job with a CCNA as your main credential, but the certification does not guarantee a job or replace experience. Your chances depend on the specific role, employer and location—and on how well you can show that you can apply what you learned.
What a CCNA demonstrates—and what it doesn’t
Cisco identifies the current CCNA exam as 200-301. Its subject areas cover network fundamentals, network access, IP connectivity, IP services, security fundamentals, and automation and programmability. That breadth can demonstrate a foundation in networking concepts and technologies.

A certification is not proof that you have worked on a production network, and it cannot establish that you meet every employer’s requirements. Read each job posting individually: some entry-level roles may fit a candidate whose strongest qualification is a CCNA, while others may ask for experience or additional skills.

Cisco describes network engineers as designing and building physical and wireless networks, optimizing infrastructure, monitoring systems, and troubleshooting problems. Related tasks include configuring and maintaining networks and addressing performance issues. These are examples of work a CCNA learner may be preparing for, not a guarantee of eligibility for any particular job title.

Look beyond listings titled “network engineer.” Early-career opportunities can also include internships, apprenticeships, and other networking-related positions. Titles and requirements vary by employer, so focus on the listed duties and qualifications rather than assuming a particular title is always junior.
How to assess an entry-level posting
Compare the details that determine whether the opportunity fits your current background:
Rank #2
- Duties: What network configuration, monitoring, maintenance, or troubleshooting would you actually do?
- Experience: Is prior professional experience required, preferred, or not mentioned?
- Technologies: Which platforms, tools, or networking concepts does the employer name?
- Training and supervision: Does the posting describe onboarding, mentoring, or a team you would learn from?
- Working conditions: Check the schedule, on-call expectations, location, and whether remote work is offered.
- Seniority: Confirm that the duties and experience expectations are genuinely entry-level, even if the title sounds junior.
Apply when your background aligns with the stated requirements. A CCNA may support your application, but it does not override an explicit experience requirement.

Make practical skills visible instead of relying on the credential name alone. In your resume or interview, describe a network task you practiced: what you configured, what went wrong, how you diagnosed it, and what you learned. This gives an employer concrete evidence of how you approach technical problems; it is useful application advice, not a hiring guarantee.
Rank #3
If you are early in your career, consider internships, apprenticeships, and other entry-level opportunities where available. Cisco’s career guidance points candidates toward developing skills, gaining experience, and building professional connections. These are ways to strengthen your path, not requirements that apply identically to every employer.
Do you need another certification?
Not automatically. Treat further credentials as optional next steps guided by the roles you want and the gaps those postings identify. Stacking certifications is not a substitute for hands-on practice or experience, and the CCNA alone does not guarantee an offer.

Study resources for the CCNA
If you are still preparing for the exam, one study option is Wendell Odom’s CCNA 200-301 Official Cert Guide, Volume 1, Second Edition, published by Cisco Press on May 24, 2024. The publisher lists review exercises, practice-test software, simulator exercises, and links to labs. Check the current exam version and the publisher’s available updates before buying, since exam blueprints and book editions can change. A guide can support exam preparation; it cannot promise a pass or a job.
