Which service fits a 24/7 YouTube stream?
Restream: lower-cost entry, with a daily-restart caveat
For a single YouTube destination, Restream’s Free tier may be enough if its feature set suits your workflow; two simultaneous channels are included. A paid subscription is not automatically necessary just because the broadcast runs continuously. Standard lists three simultaneous channels for $19/month, with higher tiers adding channel capacity and features.

Castr: explicit continuous-duration support, bounded by bandwidth
Castr’s Help Center says live-stream duration is unlimited while the subscription is active and has sufficient streaming bandwidth. The condition is important: duration is not the same as unlimited delivery. Its plan bandwidth allocation can be consumed faster by a higher bitrate, more viewers, or a longer stream. Compare bandwidth and interruption risk, not just subscription price
Estimate Castr usage for your actual audience
Castr’s player-bandwidth allowance is distinct from the number of hours its service permits a stream to run. A lightly watched feed may consume less viewer-delivery bandwidth than one with many viewers, but a reliable estimate needs the planned bitrate, audience size, duration, and delivery workflow. Castr links a bandwidth calculator from its pricing page; do not treat the plan’s monthly allocation as a guarantee that any 24/7 audience can be served without extra cost or interruption.

On Starter and Standard, Castr says streams are disabled once allocated bandwidth is exhausted. On Premium and higher, its published overage guidance describes protection at $0.10 per GB, billed per 1 TB, after included and rollover bandwidth are depleted; extra usage is automatically charged to the selected payment method. Restream’s price is organized around channels and features
Restream says multistreaming does not require extra broadcaster bandwidth and that it has no Restream-set bitrate limit; destination platforms may impose their own limits. Its tier list is therefore not a direct substitute for Castr’s bandwidth allocations. For a one-destination YouTube stream, compare the paid features you need and the operational impact of its 24-hour restart guidance rather than paying for channel capacity you will not use. A service can keep a live feed running without YouTube retaining the entire broadcast as an archive. Restream’s duration help says YouTube has no live-duration limit but archives only streams shorter than 12 hours. If viewers need a replay, plan archive duration separately from relay continuity and confirm YouTube’s current rule before scheduling a long stream. A practical way to choose
- Count destinations. If the stream goes only to YouTube, Restream Free’s two-channel allowance may be sufficient; pay for higher channel counts only if you need them or the tier’s other features.
- Decide how much interruption you can accept. If a daily restart is manageable, Restream’s stated maintenance guidance may fit. If not, evaluate Castr’s bandwidth condition carefully or choose a workflow designed to recover from dropped YouTube connections.
- Model the audience and bitrate. For Castr, use expected viewers, stream duration, and bitrate to estimate player bandwidth. Ensure the monthly or annual allocation and exhaustion behavior fit your use case.
- Include billing cadence in the comparison. Compare monthly cash outlay with annual upfront payment and the different bandwidth pool; do not compare an annual monthly equivalent as if it were a month-to-month price.
- Decide whether an archive is required. Check YouTube’s current archive behavior independently from the streaming provider’s duration policy.
