Full-metal G-SHOCK gives you metal versions of familiar 5000-square and 2100-octagonal designs, while MR-G is Casio’s flagship collection with several distinct families. Compare exact reference numbers, functions and local prices: neither collection has one universal specification or price premium.
What is the difference between MR-G and full-metal G-SHOCK?
MR-G is a collection within G-SHOCK, not a single watch design. It includes, among other families, the square MRG-B5000 and octagonal MRG-B2100. “Full-metal G-SHOCK” describes metal versions of established G-SHOCK designs, including the 5000 square and 2100 octagonal. The GMW-B5000 and GM-B2100 are useful comparisons, but they are not interchangeable: their displays, modules and specifications depend on the reference.

What does MR-G offer beyond a metal case?
Construction and finishing are model-specific
Casio describes the MRG-B2100 as having a multi-component full-metal exterior, with parts polished before assembly. Its dial concept draws on kigumi, traditional Japanese interlocking woodwork. These are concrete distinctions for that model; they should not be generalized to every MR-G.

In Casio’s editorial on a featured MRG-B5000, the case is titanium alloy 64, the top bezel is COBARION and the band is DAT55G. Those are details of that featured model, not a universal MR-G recipe. Before paying for a particular watch, confirm its case, bezel and band materials on the page for its exact reference.

How does full-metal G-SHOCK preserve the familiar design?
The GMW-B5000 is the metal take on the original 5000 square. Casio says it required “a complete redesign of the external structure, including the case, band and buttons” to preserve shock resistance with heavier metal parts. That is Casio’s description of its own design work, not an independent comparative test.
If you want an analog octagonal look rather than a digital square, compare the GM-B2100 with the MRG-B2100. Both belong to the 2100 design family, but their collection tier, construction and exact features differ. A shared silhouette does not mean identical specifications.

- Metal-clad daring meets sophisticated gleam in this Casio G-Shock that delivers Smartphone Link via Bluetooth(R) and Tough Solar charging system, all in a meticulously finished metal design with iconic octagonal bezel
- This model features a blue metallic vapor deposition dial that is complemented by a black band made of environmentally responsible bio-based resin
Which G-SHOCK has a metal case?
Several families do. For the original square shape, start with the full-metal GMW-B5000; for an octagonal analog design, look at GM-B2100. MR-G also includes metal models such as MRG-B5000 and MRG-B2100. To establish what a particular watch is made of, use its exact model number and regional product listing rather than relying on “metal G-SHOCK” as a specification.
Is MR-G worth the extra money?
There is no universal premium established for MR-G over full-metal G-SHOCK: price, availability, edition, materials and functions vary by model and market. One Japanese-market reference point is Casio’s 2026 spring/summer catalog, which lists GMW-B5000D-1JF at ¥84,700 and GM-B2100SD-1AJF at ¥84,700. Those are prices for two specific full-metal references, not evidence of a price ratio against MR-G or current pricing elsewhere.

- Introducing the GM-2110D - an analog-digital combination G-STEEL based on the GA-2100, now with a stylish metal bezel and band update
- Meticulously forged and polished, the uniform octagonal stainless-steel bezel anchors a simple, no-fuss design with a sophisticated, yet tough look
- Choose from, sky blue, orange, or lime green, in addition to classic hues of navy and silver
Use this decision checklist before buying:
- Choose MR-G if the particular model’s documented materials, multi-part construction, finishing or design references are central to why you want the watch.
- Choose full-metal if you mainly want the metal aesthetic in a familiar 5000-square or 2100-octagonal design, and its specific functions meet your needs.
- Compare fit and comfort using reliable dimensions or an in-person try-on; the cited product information does not establish a universal comfort advantage.
- Check the exact reference and suffix on the listing, then compare local price, warranty, availability, materials and module features.
- Do not buy on resale assumptions: the available product information does not establish a resale-value winner.
Which models are the most useful starting points?
For a metal square: GMW-B5000D-1
Use the GMW-B5000D-1 as the direct comparison if the 5000 square is what you want. Confirm that the seller’s suffix and regional listing match the functions and price you are comparing.
For an MR-G octagonal design: MRG-B2100D
Consider the MRG-B2100D if its documented multi-component construction and kigumi-inspired dial concept are what draw you to MR-G. Verify the particular market listing for its materials and features.
Rank #4
For a metal octagonal design below MR-G: GM-B2100
Compare a GM-B2100 reference if you want the 2100 octagonal form in the full-metal family. Casio Japan’s 2026 spring/summer catalog lists GM-B2100SD-1AJF at ¥84,700; that figure applies to the named Japanese-market reference in that catalog, not every GM-B2100 or another region.
