In Rod, call page.Screenshot(true, nil) to capture a full page, then write the returned bytes to a file. Use ScrollScreenshot instead when you need the browser to scroll through the page and stitch viewport-sized captures; that method can repeat fixed headers or footers.
Capture and save a full-page screenshot
This example uses Rod’s error-returning screenshot method and Go’s standard file-writing API:
imageBytes, err := page.Screenshot(true, nil)
if err != nil {
return err
}
if err := os.WriteFile("full-page.png", imageBytes, 0o644); err != nil {
return err
}
It assumes page is an initialized Rod page and that the surrounding function can return an error. Add os to your imports. For a conventional page, wait for the page load before capturing:
page.MustWaitLoad()
imageBytes, err := page.Screenshot(true, nil)
if err != nil {
return err
}
if err := os.WriteFile("full-page.png", imageBytes, 0o644); err != nil {
return err
}
The first argument true selects Rod’s full-page path. Passing nil is supported: Rod creates a default screenshot request. The examples below follow Rod’s official API and example pages, which are on the project’s moving main branch: Rod page implementation and Rod examples. Check the source for the exact release you use; the sources do not establish a release-pinned compatibility matrix.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Save with Rod’s convenience wrapper
If panic-on-error behavior fits your program, Rod provides MustScreenshotFullPage as a file-saving convenience wrapper. Supply a path to choose the output location; without one, the must wrapper saves to a default screenshots folder. The Must naming signals that failures are handled by panic rather than returned as an ordinary error.
How Rod’s two full-page methods differ
| Method | How it captures | What to watch for |
|---|---|---|
Page.Screenshot(true, req) |
Reads the page’s CSS content size, temporarily resizes the viewport to that size, and captures the page. Rod attempts to restore the earlier viewport afterward. | A very tall page can require a large image buffer. The checked sources specify no maximum reliable page size or memory threshold. |
ScrollScreenshot |
Captures viewport-sized segments while scrolling, then stitches them into an image. It leaves viewport dimensions alone. | Fixed-position content, such as a header, can appear more than once. FixedTop and FixedBottom options can skip repeated areas. |
Rod’s source describes the scrolling approach as capturing screenshots in a loop while scrolling, then stitching them together. Its default wait between scrolls is 300 milliseconds. These are implementation details, not a speed comparison: Rod’s documentation does not provide comparative performance or maximum-dimension benchmarks. See the implementation and official examples.

When to use scrolling and stitching
Choose ScrollScreenshot if the viewport-resize method is unsuitable for the page or if the capture should follow scrolling behavior. The official example waits for DOM stability before capturing:
page.MustWaitStable()
// Configure ScrollScreenshot options for your capture, then call it.
Configure FixedTop or FixedBottom when fixed content repeats and should be omitted from the stitched result. Rod’s examples show JPEG quality configuration for scrolling captures; use that when JPEG output is appropriate.

Set output format, quality, and capture region
Rod’s official examples demonstrate customizing the screenshot request with JPEG output, quality 90, a clip rectangle, and FromSurface: true, then writing the returned bytes to a file. A clip restricts the requested capture area; omit it for an un-clipped full-page result unless cropping is intentional. The examples do not establish how clipping interacts with very long pages or different browser versions, so verify that behavior for your setup.
For a format other than PNG, set the screenshot request’s format and relevant quality options as shown in the examples. JPEG is lossy; choose an output format based on whether smaller files or exact visual edges matter. Rod’s cited examples do not provide a file-size or quality benchmark across formats.

Wait for the content you actually need
MustWaitLoad() is used in Rod’s standard screenshot example, while MustWaitStable() appears before its scrolling example. Neither should be treated as a universal guarantee that lazy images, animations, advertisements, or client-rendered content are finished.
- For lazy-loaded images, consider scrolling through the relevant areas before capturing, then wait for the images your application needs.
- For client-rendered pages, wait for an application-specific selector or other known readiness condition rather than assuming the load event means rendering is complete.
- For animations or changing content, decide whether to wait, disable the animation for the capture, or accept the current visual state.
Rod’s checked examples do not provide a universal recipe that forces every offscreen resource to load. A screenshot call captures the page state available to the browser; it does not by itself promise that all deferred content has appeared.

Troubleshoot common capture problems
- The screenshot is only the visible viewport. Confirm the first argument to
Page.Screenshotistrue. If you intended a stitched scrolling capture, useScrollScreenshotinstead. - Images or page sections are missing. A load or stability wait may not cover lazy loading or application-specific rendering. Scroll relevant content into view and wait for the selectors or resources your page relies on.
- A fixed header appears repeatedly. This is a documented limitation of the stitched scrolling method. Adjust
FixedToporFixedBottomto account for repeated areas. - The output is cropped unexpectedly. Check whether the screenshot request sets a clip rectangle. Remove it for an un-clipped full-page capture.
- The program panics on a capture failure. Use
Screenshotand handle its returned error instead of aMustwrapper when you need controlled recovery. - A very long page consumes too much memory or fails. Large full-page images can require large buffers. The reviewed Rod sources do not state a reliable size limit; consider whether a scrolling capture or a narrower intentional clip suits the task, and test against the browser and page size you deploy.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need a screenshot through an API rather than running Rod and a browser yourself, ScreenshotNeo returns a screenshot or PDF from one GET request. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie and consent banners like a visitor and removes 60+ known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Rod return screenshot bytes or save the file automatically?
Page.Screenshot returns bytes; write them yourself, or use MustScreenshotFullPage when Rod’s file-saving, panic-on-error wrapper suits your code.
Does a full-page screenshot automatically load every lazy image?
No. Choose page-specific scrolling or readiness waits for deferred content; a screenshot call alone does not guarantee every offscreen resource has loaded.
