Capcom says it is considering how the Resident Evil remake line could catch up to the era of the numbered games, and executive producer Jun Takeuchi described references in Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil Requiem as preparation for a “crossover.” The remarks, reported by GamesRadar, do not identify a specific project, date or format—and do not confirm remakes of Resident Evil 5 or 6.
The firm next step is Resident Evil Veronica, Capcom’s remake of 2000’s Resident Evil Code: Veronica, planned for 2027. That announcement makes the broader idea of connecting the two tracks worth watching, but it is not itself an announcement of the crossover.
What Capcom means by two Resident Evil tracks
Capcom has described the franchise as having two parallel approaches. In GamesRadar’s rendering of a Japanese magazine anniversary interview, executive producer Jun Takeuchi said numbered games let players follow the series’ ongoing drama, while remakes revisit its past. The distinction is about each line’s role, not proof that they already form separate or incompatible canons.
Takeuchi’s reported comments go beyond simply saying the lines may intersect. He said the remake series will eventually “catch up to the era of the numbered titles,” and that mechanisms for doing so are already being considered. GamesRadar reports that he pointed to references including Umbrella and Spencer in Resident Evil Village, and Raccoon City’s reappearance in Resident Evil Requiem, as part of preparation for a crossover. GamesRadar’s report notes that translations of the interview differ slightly; the quotations here follow its English rendering, not an independently verified English transcript.

What the crossover is—and what it is not
The interview report leaves the central question unanswered: it does not say whether “crossover” means story links across games, a particular future game, or another format. It supplies no title, schedule, or list of projects involved. References in newer games may be clues to connective planning, but they are not enough to establish the shape of that plan.
Nor do Takeuchi’s remarks confirm remakes of Resident Evil 5 or Resident Evil 6. GamesRadar explicitly cautions that the comments stop short of announcing either. The sound conclusion is narrower: Capcom says it is thinking about how the remake line may meet the numbered-title era, while the details remain undisclosed.

The confirmed next remake: Resident Evil Veronica
Capcom’s June 8, 2026 announcement confirms Resident Evil Veronica, a remake of 2000’s Resident Evil Code: Veronica. The company says it will use RE ENGINE and preserve the original’s appeal while reimagining its story. It is planned for 2027, with no exact launch date or further details given in that announcement.
| Announced detail | What Capcom has said |
|---|---|
| Platforms | PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC |

In a June 2026 interview report, producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi said Code: Veronica fills gaps between the remake timeline and contemporary entries, and is as crucial to the series as a numbered title. He also said the plot would change to fit remake continuity, but Nintendo Wire’s report does not detail those changes. That is evidence of deliberate continuity work on this remake—not confirmation that the larger crossover has a settled form.

Capcom says the Resident Evil series had exceeded 201 million cumulative game sales as of March 31, 2026. In its FY2025 investor Q&A, the company also said the series accounted for more than half of Capcom’s total unit sales for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026. Those are franchise-wide figures, not remake-only performance numbers; Capcom did not provide a remake-specific revenue or profitability figure in that Q&A. Capcom’s June 8 announcement and its FY2025 investor Q&A provide the company’s figures and qualifications.

Remakes are not just a way to revisit popular older games; Capcom has also discussed them as part of how it sustains the series. PC Gamer reports that producer Masachika Kawata called producing an entirely new Resident Evil entry every year a difficult undertaking. He said remaking older games helps the company work toward an annual release goal and gives the team chances to challenge itself and hone its craft. PC Gamer’s report describes an ambition and rationale, not a promise that a Resident Evil game will launch in every calendar year.

Together, the comments suggest two reasons the remake line can continue: it revisits earlier stories, and it helps Capcom pursue a steady release rhythm while exploring how continuity might connect to newer entries. Neither point means Capcom has committed to remaking every past numbered game. The crossover remains a stated direction under consideration, not an announced release.
