If Live Recognition isn’t launching from your iPhone Lock Screen, use one of Apple’s documented shortcuts instead: the VoiceOver gesture, Accessibility Shortcut, Back Tap, or—on supported models—the Action button. Apple’s iOS 27 Lock Screen guide does not list Live Recognition as a direct Lock Screen control, but that documentation alone does not prove the control is unavailable on every device or build. The dedicated Lock Screen control’s availability is unverified, so check your own iPhone before assuming it can be added.
1. Try the VoiceOver gesture
If VoiceOver is on, triple-tap the screen with four fingers to start Live Recognition. Apple documents this gesture in its iOS 27 VoiceOver guide.

2. Check the Accessibility Shortcut assignment
Open Settings > Accessibility > Accessibility Shortcut and select Live Recognition. Then triple-click the side button or, on an iPhone with a Home button, the Home button. Apple describes this setup in its Live Recognition shortcuts guide.
3. Set up Back Tap
Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Back Tap. Choose Double Tap or Triple Tap, then select Live Recognition. Use the assigned tap on the back of the iPhone to invoke it.
#1 Best Overall
- Vibrant 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display with OLED technology. Action mode for smooth, steady, handheld videos.
4. Use the Action button if your iPhone has one
On supported iPhone models, customize the Action button to start Live Recognition. Apple’s shortcuts guide lists the Action button as an option; availability depends on the model.
5. Check what happens when VoiceOver is off
Apple says the Accessibility Shortcut opens Magnifier in Detection Mode when VoiceOver is off. That is the documented result, not necessarily a sign that the shortcut failed. If you specifically need the VoiceOver Live Recognition gesture, enable VoiceOver and try the four-finger triple-tap.

- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
6. Open Live Recognition settings directly
To adjust Live Recognition rather than launch it from the Lock Screen, open Settings > Accessibility > Live Recognition. Apple’s VoiceOver guide says this is where you can customize options such as the default question and input mode.
7. Review general Lock Screen access settings
Open Settings > Face ID & Passcode, or Touch ID & Passcode on a Home-button model, and review Allow Access When Locked. Apple documents this as a general set of Lock Screen access controls; it does not identify a Live Recognition-specific switch. See Apple’s guide to turning on Lock Screen features.

Can you add Live Recognition directly to the iOS 27 Lock Screen?
Apple’s iOS 27 Lock Screen guide describes quick access to features such as Camera, Control Center, notifications, widgets, and media playback, but does not name Live Recognition as a direct Lock Screen control. That omission is a documentation limit, not confirmation that no iPhone or iOS 27 configuration supports it. If you do not see a Live Recognition control in your Lock Screen options, use one of the documented shortcuts above.
