To cancel HBO Max, first check who bills your subscription, then cancel through that company—not by deleting the app. Direct HBO Max subscribers can cancel at HBOMax.com/subscription; subscriptions billed by Apple, Google Play, Samsung, Roku, Amazon, or a TV, internet, or mobile provider must be canceled through that biller. Confirm the cancellation and note when access ends.
1. Find out who bills your subscription
Sign in at HBOMax.com/subscription. You can also open HBO Max, select your profile, then choose Subscription. On a TV device, open Settings and select Subscription. The billing company should appear at the top of the screen.

If you still cannot identify the biller, check the charge on your bank or card statement, or ask your internet, mobile, or TV provider whether it bills your HBO Max subscription.

2. Choose the cancellation route that matches the biller
The company shown on your subscription determines where you must cancel. If HBO Max bills you directly, use HBO Max’s subscription page. If another company bills you, use its account settings or contact its support team. A missing cancellation option in HBO Max usually means you need to cancel with the biller listed there.

HBO Max’s help pages list Apple, Google Play, Samsung, Roku, and internet, mobile, or TV providers among the possible billing routes. Amazon Appstore and Prime Video Channels are available only in some markets; the account-management page lists Amazon Appstore billing in Brazil and Mexico, and Prime Video Channels in Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico. 3. Cancel through that biller
If HBO Max bills you directly
- Go to HBOMax.com/subscription and sign in.
- Select Cancel Your Subscription and follow the prompts to confirm.
- Note the expiration date shown after cancellation.
If a third party bills you
- Apple: Open your Apple Account’s Subscriptions settings and cancel HBO Max there.
- Google Play: Open the Play Store, go to Payments & subscriptions, then manage and cancel HBO Max.
- Samsung: In Samsung Checkout, open Purchase History > Subscriptions and cancel HBO Max.
- Roku, Amazon, or a TV, internet, or mobile provider: Use the account, help center, or customer support for the company that bills you. The available route depends on your country and how you subscribed.
If you cannot find the subscription in Apple or Google Play, check that you are signed in with the same Apple Account or Google account used to subscribe.

4. Verify that the cancellation took effect
Keep any confirmation email the biller sends, and check the subscription status with that company. For a direct HBO Max subscription, the official cancellation troubleshooting page says a canceled subscription displays Resume Your Subscription instead of Cancel Your Subscription.

HBO Max says streaming continues until the subscription expires at the end of the billing period. Cancel before your next billing date to avoid a new charge, but check your biller’s exact cutoff: HBO Max says some providers require cancellation at least 24 hours before the next billing period, and timing varies by provider.

Deleting the HBO Max app does not cancel the subscription. HBO Max says subscriptions automatically renew until canceled, so removing the app from a device is not a substitute for completing the cancellation with the biller.

HBO Max identifies several possible causes: cancellation may have been too close to the renewal date, the subscription may still be active, or you may have more than one account. Check the status with the biller and confirm which account the charge belongs to.
