Canada Rocket Company plans to build a large-scale static rocket-engine test facility at London International Airport in London, Ontario. Announced October 1, 2026, the project is not yet an operating site: the airport says it is expected to be fully operational in 2028.
Where will the facility be built?
The planned Jeremy Hansen Rocket Test Facility will occupy 50 acres leased from the Greater London International Airport Authority. The airport announcement calls it the Jeremy Hansen Test Facility. The proposed site includes a 12,000-square-foot office and shop building, along with a dedicated test area. Invest Ontario and London International Airport describe the project as planned infrastructure, not a completed facility.
What will it include and do?
The airport says the site is planned to have up to three vertical and horizontal test stands. CRC intends to use the facility for static engine testing and rocket-system validation. The office and shop building is intended to support engineering, assembly and test preparation.
The work is tied to CRC’s planned reusable medium-lift launch vehicle and its E-1 engine. The company describes the R-2 as a methalox rocket powered by nine E-1 engines, using a gas-generator cycle, with a stated capacity above 12,500 kg to sun-synchronous orbit. These are company specifications for a vehicle under development, not demonstrated flight performance. Canada Rocket Company’s website provides those specifications.

How powerful an engine can it test?
CRC CEO and co-founder Hugh Kolias told the airport that the facility would be capable of testing engines producing more than 1 MN of thrust. That is an attributed capability claim, not a published independent test result. The announcements do not provide test data demonstrating the facility’s capacity.
Kolias also described it as Canada’s first large-scale static rocket-engine test facility and said fewer than 10 countries have this capability. Those statements are the company’s claims as quoted in the airport announcement, rather than independently verified comparisons.

When is it expected to open?
London International Airport says the facility is expected to be fully operational in 2028. That is a forward-looking target; the October 1 announcement does not establish that construction is complete or that testing has begun.
The airport said CRC was working with regulators and the local community and planned a public consultation in October 2026. At announcement time, it had not published the consultation’s date, time or location.

How much is being invested, and how many jobs are projected?
Invest Ontario said the announced facility investment is $30 million, in Canadian dollars. It forecasts at least 40 new jobs over the following 18 months; the airport described the anticipated employment as approximately 40 skilled jobs. These are projections, not confirmed hires.
Invest Ontario also projected that the broader vehicle development program could contribute approximately 1,000 jobs and more than $1 billion in additional investment over the next decade. Those figures refer to the wider program, not solely to the facility, and are forecasts rather than results already achieved. The agency says Ontario produces more than 94,000 STEM graduates each year; that figure is its characterization of the province’s talent pipeline.

The airport announcement says CRC received $8.3 million from the Department of National Defence’s IDEaS Program. That funding figure is distinct from Invest Ontario’s $30 million announced facility investment.

CRC and the provincial agency present the site as part of building Canadian sovereign launch capability. A test facility could support engine and systems development on Canadian soil, but its announcement alone does not establish a working domestic launch service, successful engine tests or a completed rocket.

In the airport announcement, Artemis II astronaut Jeremy Hansen said, “Missions like Artemis II depend on a strong national space sector, and sovereign launch is an important part of Canada’s future. Canada Rocket Company is helping build that capability here at home.”
For future updates, the key distinctions are whether construction advances, whether the planned stands become operational, whether the stated thrust capacity is demonstrated in tests, and whether projected jobs and investment materialize.
